What is your least favorite renown heart to complete?

Those who have done world completion, those who have done the story, and those just bopping around in core Tyria have had the opportunity to survey the variety of renown hearts found in the open world. Some of them are great. My personal favorite: chuck snowballs at Norn kids' heads. However, some of them are just a pain to handle. What renown hearts make you cringe when you enter a zone?

I will nominate two:

  1. A Celebration of Meat. Located in the Diessa Plateau zone. Now, a holiday known as Meatoberfest sounds absolutely amazing...on paper. This heart is not fun, however. Unless a related event pops (like Azalus Poisontongue), you're pretty much limited to serving food and drink that does not advance the progress meter that much. Plus, you don't get any tips. Cheap-ass Charr.

  2. Join the Ash Legion of Tawny Ridge in Stealth Operations. Located in the Blazeridge Steppes, this renown heart asks you to stealth up and sneak past half of the Charr race to touch some flags. You're forced to walk and the 2nd-57th Charr Legions in the area bust your stealth from a significant distance, which usually leads to more than one walk of shame back to the heart. It's slow and tedious and I would rather carpet bomb the entire area. Screw you, Ash Legion.

I must note that: (a) some people may like these hearts. If so, that's great. Not every heart is made for every player. This is, obviously, a subjective critique. And (b): there's probably a quick way to complete the above two that I haven't figured out yet. If that is the case, then consider the above complaint a mere expression of my frustrated stupidity.

I'm curious about what hearts others think are a PITA. If you've got one you loathe, then by all means vent here.

Question mostly for old people: how can you guys keep up with rotations and mechanics on high tier content?

As an older, tired, and less skilled player, it blows my mind how some people can handle raids and high tier fractals, repeating rotations while dodging all sorts of stuff flying at them. I have always wanted to try them myself, but I worry I will not be able to keep up. It would not bother me as much if it only affected me. I do not mind losing duels in WvW, and I have even been told by zerg commanders that they will take any healers they can get. However, in PvE content, if one player goes down, the group loses a lot of damage, and healers are the backbone of the team. The idea of others failing because of my mistakes is discouraging. I know people often call this a “skill issue” these days, but I think it is more about not having the time or endurance to keep up like I used to. I would really like to hear what others think.

Open World Combat Difficulty Modes

You think ANet would ever add this? I saw that ESO is adding difficulty options that basically scale the amount of damage you take and deal to open world mobs, and the harder it gets, the more gold and exp. I feel like this would be a great addition to GW2, as most of the open world is braindead easy - and having optional extra difficulty that's tied to the individual player would really make exploration a lot more thrilling without fragmenting the population on each map.

I get that Meta events might have to be an exception, but overall would love to see a system like this.

Opening bags on lower level characters

I was wondering if opening loot bags on lower level characters yields low tier mats. What level should that character be? I'm trying to get T3 mats to make "Gift of Condensed Magic/Might", and buying them on TP can suddenly become a hefty price.

My big issue with VoE

I'm having a really hard time staying engaged with this expansion compared to all the previous ones, and my hype is completely on the floor. It's not that the expansion is bad—in fact, I think the beginning is much better than the last few. The problem is the release schedule.

When the next story chapter comes out, it will have been over 6 months since the first part launched. The issue is that I hardly remember anything about the story or the details anymore. I remember the broad strokes, sure, but I have the feeling that when it finally drops, I will have forgotten a lot of important stuff just because so much time has passed.

In my case, as a PvP player who likes to play the story for the lore, I've lost all motivation to play during these 6 months because PvP is dead and the story was left hanging 6 months ago.

It's obvious that they've shifted a lot of resources away from GW2 for years now (hello GW3), but I'm sure they could organize things a lot better.

New Players Need Help

Myself and 3 friends have decided to pick up Guild Wars 2 as our first MMO since Wizard 101..

So needless to say, the quest structuring and progression seems entirely different from the linearity of that game.

That being said, could we please get a little summary of how progression works in this game?

I kind of gathered from some play time that we won’t really be talking to NPC’s and turning in quests.

I got to level 13 last night and just wondering how everything is meant to be tackled, as it seems to lack a structure I can understand right away.

Do we unlock the map by simply walking through it? Are we able to completely miss content by passing by and not interacting with it?

Where are the cities with vendors, guilds, and the like?

I’m more used to a structure like, enter new zone, do all the quests, fight big boss, enter new zone. All while unlocking skills through leveling. With a hub area immediately unlocked to talk to NPC’s and meet up with friends.

Why play Condi Conduit?

After last week’s patch they gutted Enhanced Embodiment back to only providing 1 second of Cosmic Wisdom upon legend swap. Before this patch, it was 5 seconds and completely changed how you played the Revenant, actually providing some uniqueness to the class.

As far as I can tell, the elite spec is back to being a big ‘ole nothing burger. It, once again, plays exactly the same as Condi Renegade. I guess I’m just mourning the loss of a really fun, new way to play Revenant. Ya know… that thing elite specs are literally designed to do… Now, it’s back to the same old ways of weapons being closely tied to legends; I.e., when you swap legends, you immediately swap weapons. I guess Revenant is forever doomed to be little more than a boon bot.

Am I missing something? Is there any reason to bother playing Condi Conduit anymore?

Since GW2 throws gear at players at an ARPG rate, what could GW2 learn from the ARPG loot experience?

Legendary items have a special pop-up panel, but special drops like precursors don't give any special indications in the UI that something valuable has hit a player's bags. What could GW2 take from ARPGs to make the mountain of loot more comprehensible?

Got my first legendary, so what should I go for next?

Hi everyone,

I’ve just reached a milestone where I have two full Ascended sets (Berserker and Celestial). I also just finished my first Legendary item – the Eikasia, Mists-Grasper gauntlets.

I’ve recently joined a great group that is teaching me how to Raid, and I’m absolutely loving it so far. Now that I’m getting more into the endgame, I want to start working on my next legendary.

What would you recommend as the next 'easiest' or most logical legendary item to go for? Should I focus on the Raid armor now that I have a group, or is there a specific trinket or another item that's better to start with?

Thanks for the advice!

Mount revamps

It seems that with every new dlc coming out, a specific mount is getting an upgrade (skyscale, warclaw, skimmer). What’s the next mount you would want to see upgraded, and why? Personally (although springer probably needs it more) I want the raptor to get something new, maybe like a roar that scares enemies away, considering it is a big fuck off dinosaur.

Bauble collection achievements and unreliable checkpoint boosts

So after not bothering for the longest time, I finally wanted to get the achievements for collecting all baubles in a single run in all of the SAB zones. I did W1Z1 years ago, but never got any further.

Here is my issue and question:

Both W1Z2 and W1Z3 have baubles that can only be collected by using the boost that the checkpoint provides to jump on a ledge and climb to a dig spot.
As far as I understand, you can only use this boost once per run and if you fail it, you can't get those baubles until you reset the entire zone.
For me those boosts are incredibly unreliable. Especially the final checkpoint of W1Z2 just completely fails to fire for me 90% of the time. I really don't want to go through the entire zone, which takes a lot of time if you collect everything, just to fail and the very final stretch.

Do you have any tips and tricks on how to more reliable get the boost and avoid failing the jump? Are there any work arounds to get to these spots without the boost? Are the digging spots not needed for the achievement (the wiki is not super clear on this)?

Anything to help out is appreciated.

Finished EVERY MAP without mounts. Ask me anything.

So the title is pretty much just that, I wondered if i could do the entire map completion without mounts, the answer is yes BUT. I'll answer some very commonplace questions in the body first, then after reading those you can ask another question.

Worst maps to complete was Mistburned Barrens. It has 2 very tall vista that both have the fake updrafts that can't be used with gliding to get to. Auric Basin (meta locked areas that aren't often done nowadays), Starlit Weald (popular for now, but still meta locked locations), and there were a few others where areas were locked behind metas.

Jade bot gliding booster level 3 was pretty much mandatory once i got to Desert Highlands.

Favorite maps to complete without mounts were Lowland shore, oddly Inner Nayos (though there was some puzzling there), and Caledon Forest.

You do need a friend with a raptor for a single heart in new kaineng, they smash the anti-stealth turrets with raptor swipe, and you kill the adds that spawn from their attack. Those were the only adds that counted for heart progress in the entire area. (I would also have liked the event that happens there to have counted, and stray adds around the area as well, but beggars can't be choosers.)

Said friend also needs to have done the entirety of the SoTo story to access the final 2 poi's.

No, I won't be doing it again, however I WILL continue this legacy with future releases until I absolutely can't do a map without a mount.

With that all said, ask away.

What's a good healing output in WvW?

The TL;DR is that my WvW healing build has a healing output of about 4k/s to 5 targets. It's tanky, does some damage, and heals a lot but does literally nothing else except some uncommon low-power condition removal. No boons or anything fancy. I'm curious how impactful it is.

Fractal Players

Before taking a two-year break, I was doing fractal CM. Now I've started playing casually, and for the past three weeks I've been joining T4 (non CM) groups every day, and most players don't know the fractal mechanics, they don't even know what to do. They're unaware of their own builds. Leaving aside the DPS role, a player who joins as saying "Hi alac" gives 1 second of alac in combat, while a player who joins with the quickness role gives 3 seconds of quickness. I've played with players like this for 15 out of 21 days. I wouldn't mind if it was very rare, but this rate is terrible. I think it's ridiculous that people come to T4 so cluelessly. Am I thinking wrong?

SAB is amazing and the combat is incredibly infuriating

Im a pretty new player and this year was my first SAB! I was pretty excited even though I didn’t know much about it. Got into the first level and was really taken aback by all the details put into the art style, the unique UI, everything. My mood soured quite a bit after I wondered around and fought every single enemy, their defeat spawning a single bauble just slightly delayed enough to be annoying.

Now, I put the game down for a bit and when watching some SAB content I saw people simply running past all the enemies. So next day comes around, I hop on SAB again, try just running past and just enjoying the jumping puzzles, secrets and visuals, and holy shit the entire event changes for me. This is fun! Incredibly fun even! I work my way through the first world and after a few attempts have a very enjoyable time besting the Frog Boss. It seems like the combat can be fun after all!

I was not prepared for World 2 Zone 2. The ninjas are very speedy, meaning outrunning them is can be tricky in certain areas. They dodge when they attack, which they do all the time, making every fight take longer, especially as they take three hits to take down. Then I get to the mini boss you get the push power from. Now from I can tell, you need to fight this mini boss every time you want complete the level. And what does this boss fight look like? Well telegraphed attacks that are fun to dodge like the frog boss? A reasonable health pool, making the fight feel fast and snappy? Meaningful interaction with the bosses mechanics? Or do I simply circle strafe around the boss for two minutes, either waiting out his block or attacking whilst he attempts to hit me with boulders, the only reason I get hit because I grow nearly numb from boredom and get too close.

Now maybe I am missing something. Maybe you can skip this boss, maybe there is some other strategy or maybe I simply don’t get it. But currently I love the festival and hate the combat and I feel like the levels would be better with 90% of the enemies removed.

Anyways, I just got the upgraded melee weapon so maybe my suffering will diminish a bit!

I'm tired of playing against platinums in pvp

I don't care about toxicity. I don't care about meta or OP classes. I don't even care about winning. I care about fighting and beating opponents, even if we end up losing somehow, at least I had my fun.

But there is always a point it becomes insufferable, where I start being queued against players that are way, way above me, turning a duel into an humiliation.

I can even stand those who are unable to fight for more than five seconds without having to run to parkour for their lives, but the skill gaps sometimes are abysmals, and then I go to the HotM and see that my opponent has like 600 more elo than me. Players that sometimes cannot be told apart from cheaters. And that's without counting duoQ.

Should I just quit pvp and be done with it?
