Photographer

Im looking for a photographer/photographer recommendations who is willing to take pictures of my husband and I at the park. Im struggling to find anyone affordable/not "full" day... while I'll be in a wedding dress, ill really only need maybe 2 hours as this will not be a ceremony or anything. Also hoping to keep it under $1500-2k 😬 i know photography is an art skill which i can appreciate, but i cant justify spending $5k+ on it for a couple hours.....

trip at the end of may

Hi ! First time going to Glacier and very excited ! I’m planning on doing as many trails as I can while there. I’m just wondering what shoes I should plan on bringing since it says the trails are supposed to be muddy. Not sure if regular trail shoes or hiking boots will be better.

Going to Whitefish June 12-14th. I’m aware how the mountains operate in the spring and wanted insight from locals what parts of glacier will be open/ worth visiting. I’m renting a car and now road closures are possible so just looking to still do some eventful activities despite possible closures.

shuttle in 2026

Im looking for hiker shuttle options to do the Piegan Pass to MG hike as well as the Siyeh Pass to Sunrift hike, but it looks as if there will be NO shuttle system to rely on for these particular trailheads, is this correct ? So, if I want to do these hikes I would need to hitch, is this correct ?

No car

Planning to head to GNP 23rd - 30th September. Can’t hire a car as I’ve had my license for less than 12 months. I wanted to go to lake McDonald, trail of cedars, avalanche lake, iceberg lake, st Mary & Virginia falls.

I know a lot of the shuttles stop after Labour Day. What are the best ways to get around? Should I just book multiple tours?

Please help 🫶🏼

Late May Easy-to-Moderate Hiking?

Hello!

TL;DR: Traveling solo to MT the last week of May and am looking for easy-to-moderate hiking trails!

I will preface this by saying that this was a very spontaneous trip and planned pretty last-minute, so there unfortunately wasn't a lot of time to do much research — which I am feeling the affects of now lol.

I was really hoping I'd be able to join a group/guided hike in the park, but after searching for a few days over multiple websites it seems I'm missing the start of the guided hike season by about a week 😅 (or a month in some cases)

That being saaiidd, I still absolutely want to see the park, so I'll be hiking solo! I'm also not a particularly advanced hiker and have never been to Glacier before, so for safety reasons, I'd like to stick with easy-to-moderate trails (preferably less than 1,000ft elevation gain and around 10 or less miles round-trip, easy terrain) — purely bonus points if they are known to have a relatively decent amount of traffic around that time of year as well!

OR if there are any recommendations for group hikes going on during the last week of May that I missed during my googling, that would be amazing too!! (Just for reference, I have already checked the Glacier Tourbase, Glacier Institute, and Glacier Guides websites.)

Thank you all SO much in advance for any recommendations, all advice is much appreciated! 😁

3 guys staying in Bigfork (June 26–July 4) best Glacier itinerary/must-do experiences?

Hey everyone,

Me and 2 friends are heading to Montana for the first time and staying in Bigfork from June 26 to July 4. We’ll be visiting Glacier National Park multiple days and want to make the most of it.

We already have a rough plan (drive Going-to-the-Sun Road, hike Avalanche Lake, possibly Highline/Grinnell), but I wanted to ask people who know the area better:

What we’re looking for:

Best must-do hikes (worth waking up early for)

Hidden gems or less crowded spots

Any “don’t miss this” experiences

Good swimming spots / lake days

Fun stuff outside the park (rafting, towns, etc.)

Context:

We’re active and down for harder hikes

Also don’t want to burn out, so open to chill days too

Willing to wake up early if it’s worth it

First time in Glacier

Also:

Anything you wish you knew before going?

Any mistakes to avoid?

Appreciate any advice 🙏

Selling my hotel reservation

Under Canvas Glacier Reservation Transfer (July 11–16 | Safari Tent)

Hi! I have a reservation at Under Canvas Glacier that I’m looking to transfer for July 11–16 (5 nights) in a Safari Tent.

Due to a change in plans, I can no longer use it, and I’m hoping to pass it along to someone who’s been trying to book this timeframe. I know it’s a very high-demand week.

Under Canvas allows a name change on the reservation (I will coordinate directly with them to make the transfer smooth and official).

Details:

* Location: Under Canvas Glacier

* Dates: July 11–16

* Accommodation: Safari Tent

* 4 nights total

If you’re interested, please message me—happy to provide details and coordinate directly with Under Canvas to ensure a secure transfer

Originally paid

$1,743.72

Willing to sell for 1,400 or best offer!

People you gotta do your homework! Glacier is basically closed until mid June!

It amazes me how many posts I see here about people planning a visit between now and mid June. Umm, okay, but did you notice that Going To The Sun road (aka the one road through the park with all the mind boggling scenery) won’t be open? Moreover Mother Nature is in charge so the NPS can’t give an exact date. Google “the big drift” for an idea of what they face every year. Also it’s not just plowing but they gotta make sure there won’t be avalanches. They also gotta put back miles of road signs & fencing that they take down for the winter, get the Logan pass visitor center running, etc.

GTTS road usually opens mid to late June. Last year I think GTTS road opened on the 9th for bikes and the 16th for vehicles. Snow pack this year was historically low so who knows if they open even earlier. But bottom line before June is pointless, and mid June is iffy. Of course there’s still park to enjoy (many glacier, two medicine, north fork, hikes into the sperry area, etc) but I sure wouldn’t bother visiting if I couldn’t drive GTTS.

I’ll also remind people that this year timed entry is gone, but there is a 3 hour parking limit at Logan pass. Hikers need to take the shuttle bus. We did it a few years ago to hike Highline and it worked fine. The full 11 mile hike is one way and you end up waaaaay downhill from Logan pass so you’re using the bus anyhow. Just get there early or else you’re in line for the next bus.

We are lucky in that we are a mere 3 hours from lake McDonald, so we can do day trips. We just went up in march and yes the road was closed at the lake.

Is the Many Glacier boat tour worth it if only the last one of the day is available?

We're going toward late June, first two nights in Whitefish and the next two at Many Glacier hotel.

The only availability for the MG boat tour is the last one of the day (5pm) so we would have to walk back to the parking lot if we were to do the hike; we don't want to do that so it would just be the round trip boat tour for us.

Is there another tour from the west side/near Whitefish that would be almost as good or should we just do the MG one-last tour of the day.

We did the MG one a few years ago but it rained so was kind of a mess.

Another Where to Stay post- but luxury?

My husband and I are looking to visit in early October for an anniversary trip. I’d love to find a nice cabin or luxury resort to stay in. I looked at Paws Up and that’s a bit out of our price range but something along those lines would be great!

Silenos Cirque or Lake?

I am currently reading Grizzly Years by Doug Peacock. In one chapter he bushwhacking over the Divide following a grizzly bear. He mentions Silenos Cirque and Silenos Lake. I cannot find anything about Silenos. In the same chapter he mentions looking down from the Divide and looking at the North Fork of the Flathead River. It is quite plausible Doug Peacock made up the name to keep this backcountry area a secret.

Binoculars recommendation?

Looking to bring along some binoculars to glacier this summer, does anyone have experience with the park and recommend a particular zoom, currently debating 10x or 12x. Any info would be great!
