Farever has forever changed my perspective on MMOs

Before people jump up and say it’s not a true an MMO, my response to that is, I don’t really care anymore. Before, I would yearn for an MMO that has high player population and lots of people running around in the open world. After playing this, I’ve realised those things aren’t really that important to me.

You still see people here and there and it isn’t really difficult to group up. In most modern MMOs, the social aspect isn’t great anyway. People will just run by you and barely interact other than in the chat box in world/zone channels.

The solo experience, as well as the option for group play, is something I overlooked. This game does it perfectly. The fact that I can do dungeons solo is amazing, I don’t really like committing to something like a dungeon in a party when life can just pull me away at any moment, as I’m a dad gamer. It also means I don’t have to deal with sweaty try hards who want to gate-keep and say ‘bRo uR sTaTs aRe tRaSh’.

I’m rooting for the developers and hope these server issues get ironed out quickly. I’ve enjoyed the game a lot so far, it seems they’ve picked out the best game mechanics from different games and molded it in to one. Great work guys.

THEY LISTENED

Yes the game has a few issues, but no one can say they arent trying to fix them.

And these QoL additions are friggin fantastic.

Terrible player

I don't know how you guys solo without heals. I tried Priest and it was easy with heals. I tried other classes and it's a struggle. Any tips for a bad player? lol

Idk of the Devs are here, PLEASE don’t let these server issues ruin your game.

This game is everything I want in an MMO and nothing I don’t.

You’ve really caught lightning in a bottle here guys, but these servers are absolutely unacceptable.

If that’s not your priority, please please make it the top one.

It would be such a shame for this game to die when it’s so good when we can actually play.

Quality of life improvements

Some quality of life improvements I've been thinking about while playing the game.

I know the biggest issue right now is server connection and lag, and that it's the top priority at the moment, so there's no need to mention it. This post is just about discussing features and improvements that would be nice to have in the game.

  1. Compass and/or minimap
  2. Zone levels displayed on the map
  3. Button to sort inventory
  4. Button to sort bank
  5. Button to transfer identical items from inventory to bank
  6. Split item stacks
  7. Favorite/lock items to prevent accidental selling
  8. Link items in chat
  9. Trading system
  10. Add friends
  11. Inspect other players
  12. Ping marker system for party
  13. Option to change loot distribution type in party
  14. Timestamps in chat
  15. Text on map indicating the player's current server channel
  16. Option to change server channel
  17. Key rebindings for map and other functions
  18. Indicator of which obelisk is set as point of teleportation
  19. From the comments: Auto-Run with map open
  20. From the comments: Hiding armor pieces
  21. From the comments: Icon next to monster names in the over world to show if its codex entry is mastered
  22. From the comments: Craft from bank
  23. From the comments: Overall tooltips improvements, specially for crafting items obtainability and use
  24. From the comments: Markers for respawn points in dungeons

after approx 40 hours, I've reached max level, gotten high level gear and finished most of the content, these are my thoughts.

Overall I have to say I am very impressed by the game. Like most people, the game looks a bit silly, but is surprisingly good. I don't think i'll be playing it as much as I have now that i've reached the "end" until more updates comes out, but I never expected to have a fully designed endgame loop at this early stage anyway.

I must say, if the game keeps a steady update cycle, it will have a bright future of a popular indie MMO-lite.

My biggest "gripe" with the game is honestly just a small one (excluding the server and performance bugs). The character models are slightly too chibi/childish looking for my liking. But that is to some part of the charm, which is fair.

In the end, the core gameplay of the game is really good. With future updates adding more talents, more weapons, more content, the game has a promising future.

I could go further into detail what i liked, but honestly, there are very few things I disliked beyond what i mentioned above. The regions are massive and very well made, some higher detail to decorations in large castles and such could be made, but I go into this with what I'd think is realistic expectations for a 15 man indie dev team.

If you have any questions, let me know and I'll answer it as best I can.

The Server Outrage

I'm apart of the Discord for the game and I will say the backlash over the server issues are a bit excessive but I understand where they are coming from.

If you weren't apart of the campaign behind this game and just a random guy scrolling on steam looking for new games (such as me), the server issues do look optically really bad. The devs are both resetting and doing maintenance on them, and while I understand they are suffering from success but man are these servers just horrible. I would go as far to say they are the worst I've seen from a multiplayer game in recent memory. They were clearly underprepared capacity wise and I imagine as they get more servers and expand the available ones, the lag will decrease and the game will feel more playable. It's really hard to enjoy the game with the current server state.

This isn't a dig at the devs or any thing in general. These things happen when making games and with the size of the team I don't blame them for not expecting 9-12k concurrent players with the size and advertising of the product. I personally love the art style and feel of the game, and think it has a very bright future. I just hope they fix these servers fast because I think it's actively pushing people away.

I want to play this game but I am scared of servers

All I hear in this reddit is how servers make the game unplayable. Then I see so many streamers playing the game and it makes me want to play it because there doesn’t seem to be an issue (not blaming anybody) and game looks fun.

So, what are your experiences with EU servers? Is it too bad to the point of you wouldn’t recommend buying the game right now? Did it get any better lately?

Crabgantua seems impossible as a Priest

Terrible player here.

Tried to solo the big crab boss at level 8. While I can survive the mechanics, I spent 30 minutes on a single pull and only got him to 50% before I said screw this.

I do like no damage and it's even harder when you have 10 adds that spawn that get in the way of you damaging the boss.

Don't try this boss if you don't have good weapons. I have the weapon that gives you water totems that heal and a frontal cone AoE. Basically poopy weapons.

What's you favorite class?

Playing Mage rn and thinking of switching to something else when a buddy joins. I'm curious what most people think is a fun class.

I played Farever for 2 hours and decided if i would Keep It Or Quit It in the Steam refund time window. I'm keeping this gem! I was totally blown away by how fun this game is! It seems to fill a niche no other MMO has. It's like the first "cozy" mmo!

If you're thinking about pulling the trigger on buying Farever, i hope this video helps you decide if it's worth the invesment.

TL;DW - here are my thoughts

What I Liked

  • The North American servers have been a bit laggy, and I was unable to log into it at all on May 9th. - being that the game is in early access, and is in it's early access launch week 1, this isn't a huge factor for me. I chose to get the game in EA, and to try it on launch weekend. But if it's a deal breaker for you, then hold off for awhile. I was able to log into south american servers and experienced no issues of any kind. I've continued playing up to today (may 12) and haven't had log in issues, but have noticed a bit of latency ongoing. doesn't make it unplayable, but it's there. I haven't looked into it, but i would imagine the support team is working to stabilize the NA servers.
  • The game seems to emphasize exploration more than any other MMO that's in recent memory for me. - After years in the MMO genre i've tried most the major ones and have shit loads of hours in some of the major ones. Most of them (not all) follow the same formula of "go to quest hub and get task list." I found Farever to have an emphasis on seeing the zones and doing different stuff. I found myself more curious about what was around the next corner rather than just getting task lists. GW2 kind of does this as well, so if you like GW2, there's a strong chance you'll enjoy Farever.
  • The combat is simplistic, but engaging and doesn't seem to ever feel stale. I would personally call Farever an actual skill based combat experience and this feels rare in the MMO genre. The active blocking/dodging really makes every fight stay fun. I had to actually really learn how the different weapons worked and that's super fun!
  • Weapons granting different abilities allows you to custimize to your playstyle a bit and i love it! My priest using water attacks is super fun, and i also love the sceptor. i can't wait to find other stuff to try out! Does remind me of GW2.
  • I personally love the graphical style and presentation. - since the game has a casual, cozy vibe to it, the graphical style really feels fun and refreshing. The game runs great for me as well (Core i5, GeForce RTX 5070). The graphical style has grown on me the more i play it and i find it really beautiful. There are also cool, thoughtful details in the animations. Mages books hover, and fly next to you. The fire ember they carry is channeled into Pyroblast. It's very cool!
  • The sound profile is great! Smashy attacks feel impactful. The music is chill. Boss combat music kicks up when you engage in big fights to keep things exciting. There's no voice acting, but, it doesn't feel like anything is missing IMO
  • The cozy nature of the game makes it feel like a welcome niche in my Steam library - I don't have any other game quite like this in my steam library and i'm excited to have it there to scratch the itch of the MMO feel.
  • Runs out of the box on my PS5 controller! - I can play this from the couch or my PC. Huge + IMO.

What I Didn't Like

  • The social aspect doesn't feel very strong - There's not much incentive, at least at low levels, to team up with folks. Since the game kind if handles like a FPS/action game, and you have to hit Alt key to use "mouse mode" it means less players will type with eachother and therefore connect less with eachother than other MMOs. The game is solo friendly though, so this definitely isn't a deal breaker IMO just a minor concern.
  • Stability issues - observed above, but yeah, the latency and servers being inaccessable may mean that some folks might want to hold off on buying it on steam for now. For me, i observe that the game is in EA and week 1 (at the time of this posting) so it's definitely not a deal breaker that will stop me from playing it or recommending it to folks but i do warn them when i talk about the game that is EA and launch time right now. I have faith the dev team will address it or that it will stabilize over time. It's completly playable though.
  • As far as I've seen the game has taught me nothing about how crafting works - and yet i find crafting items all the time. I therefore have no idea how valuable these items are and if i should hang onto them. my inventory is a total mess and i'm paranoid about vendoring this stuff.

The dislikes i have, to be clear, are MINOR gripes i have to observe. I'm having a blast with the game so far and i would recommend it to anyone curious about the game. I think it's clearly worth the (current) $18ish USD price tag to try it out. The game is currently capped at level 20 i think. For me that means i'll play my lil toons and enjoy the exploration and if i get bored at the level cap of 20, i'll stop playing and keep it installed and wait for more content. this games feels likeit'll be easy to take a break from and return to when there's more content. I totally accept in it's in EA and that i'm engaging with it before full release. Devs seemed to be clear about setting expectations which i appreciated.

My vote? Give it a go! it's so fun!

No server status page or updates on the server issue is going to kill the game

Look, I understand that they're suffering from success and I'm sure they're in a scramble to get things up and running but all yesterday I was basically unable to play because of lag and unannounced server resets. Today I wake up and try to play and the servers are down, but there's no server status page, no communication from the team on what they're working on etc.

I've seen this happen like 100 times to MMOs, and what's going to happen is it's going to start bleeding players without more clear communication from the dev team

Hard Truths

Partying up is pointless outside of the "for fun" aspect.

Doing dungeons or world bosses splits the loot you'd normally get 2-4 ways, so it's more valuable to your time to just do these solo getting gear your character can use. Nothing worse than doing a 4-man dungeon and you drop is a pair of pants you can't wear and no one really wants to trade with you.

General partying up is also quite rare and damaged by the previous issue, there's not enough people in the server to garuntee you'll find a party for the activity you want to do, you play together with the other 19 people on your servers and sometimes things you're doing overlap with another in the open world and it can be fun to do them together but you're not gonna party up with them so any party utility you have is essentially useless in this regard.

Activity loot needs buffed in co-op and we need a Party Finder/Matchmaking option for Dungeons and World Bosses to access those other cells of the server to make the mmo aspect feel good, it's okay having 20 or so players in one world but these encounters have always been group tailored experiences for a reason, it's fun to either communicate or use different Class skills together to fight more than what you could handle alone.

Do the stats actually do what they say they do?

So, I was switching around some items and then i realized that Dexterity doesn't actually give you any crit rate. just check your crit rate before and after equipping dexterity items.

Also, as a secondary question, what about Armor? does armor mean nothing if the enemy is higher level?

Rogue Appreciation

So been playing this game for a lot past couple of days and tried out all classes ( Priest to 10, mage to 8 and warrior to 20 ). Felt a bit disappointed by warrior at 20 so decided to try out rogue and oh boy I gotta say it felt a lot better than expected. Just wanted to create this thread to show some appreciation to the class ( and in turn to the game ).

Rogue out of the gate is already pretty strong, with a skill that can reset it's cooldown by doing an auto attack finisher. Then at level 5 if you pick the bow it's just such a smoother leveling experience compared to the other classes because of the ricochet skill it has and it lowering the cooldown based on how many enemies you hit with it.

Survivability is also really good because of smoke bomb. Chain pulling mobs, popping a smoke bomb and going to town with the ricochet bow skill is just so satisfying. Later on I'm planning on going down the right tree to pick up the leeching poison passive and branching out to the left tree to get the increased poison damage and stacks.

As a closing note to get across how good rogue is, I solo'd crabgantuan at lvl 13 on my warrior and it was a pretty close fight. I did the same on my lvl 10 rogue and breezed through the fight with the ratsar daggers with the bow in my arsenal slot for the add phase. The poisons from the dagger along with the talent poison just shreds through single targets, while having the bow in the arsenal gives you a tool to deal with groups incredibly well.

Can't wait to see what this game has in store for it's future in terms of new talents, weapons, dungeons, etc ...
