I played Farever for 2 hours and decided if i would Keep It Or Quit It in the Steam refund time window. I'm keeping this gem! I was totally blown away by how fun this game is! It seems to fill a niche no other MMO has. It's like the first "cozy" mmo!

If you're thinking about pulling the trigger on buying Farever, i hope this video helps you decide if it's worth the invesment.

TL;DW - here are my thoughts

What I Liked

  • The North American servers have been a bit laggy, and I was unable to log into it at all on May 9th. - being that the game is in early access, and is in it's early access launch week 1, this isn't a huge factor for me. I chose to get the game in EA, and to try it on launch weekend. But if it's a deal breaker for you, then hold off for awhile. I was able to log into south american servers and experienced no issues of any kind. I've continued playing up to today (may 12) and haven't had log in issues, but have noticed a bit of latency ongoing. doesn't make it unplayable, but it's there. I haven't looked into it, but i would imagine the support team is working to stabilize the NA servers.
  • The game seems to emphasize exploration more than any other MMO that's in recent memory for me. - After years in the MMO genre i've tried most the major ones and have shit loads of hours in some of the major ones. Most of them (not all) follow the same formula of "go to quest hub and get task list." I found Farever to have an emphasis on seeing the zones and doing different stuff. I found myself more curious about what was around the next corner rather than just getting task lists. GW2 kind of does this as well, so if you like GW2, there's a strong chance you'll enjoy Farever.
  • The combat is simplistic, but engaging and doesn't seem to ever feel stale. I would personally call Farever an actual skill based combat experience and this feels rare in the MMO genre. The active blocking/dodging really makes every fight stay fun. I had to actually really learn how the different weapons worked and that's super fun!
  • Weapons granting different abilities allows you to custimize to your playstyle a bit and i love it! My priest using water attacks is super fun, and i also love the sceptor. i can't wait to find other stuff to try out! Does remind me of GW2.
  • I personally love the graphical style and presentation. - since the game has a casual, cozy vibe to it, the graphical style really feels fun and refreshing. The game runs great for me as well (Core i5, GeForce RTX 5070). The graphical style has grown on me the more i play it and i find it really beautiful. There are also cool, thoughtful details in the animations. Mages books hover, and fly next to you. The fire ember they carry is channeled into Pyroblast. It's very cool!
  • The sound profile is great! Smashy attacks feel impactful. The music is chill. Boss combat music kicks up when you engage in big fights to keep things exciting. There's no voice acting, but, it doesn't feel like anything is missing IMO
  • The cozy nature of the game makes it feel like a welcome niche in my Steam library - I don't have any other game quite like this in my steam library and i'm excited to have it there to scratch the itch of the MMO feel.
  • Runs out of the box on my PS5 controller! - I can play this from the couch or my PC. Huge + IMO.

What I Didn't Like

  • The social aspect doesn't feel very strong - There's not much incentive, at least at low levels, to team up with folks. Since the game kind if handles like a FPS/action game, and you have to hit Alt key to use "mouse mode" it means less players will type with eachother and therefore connect less with eachother than other MMOs. The game is solo friendly though, so this definitely isn't a deal breaker IMO just a minor concern.
  • Stability issues - observed above, but yeah, the latency and servers being inaccessable may mean that some folks might want to hold off on buying it on steam for now. For me, i observe that the game is in EA and week 1 (at the time of this posting) so it's definitely not a deal breaker that will stop me from playing it or recommending it to folks but i do warn them when i talk about the game that is EA and launch time right now. I have faith the dev team will address it or that it will stabilize over time. It's completly playable though.
  • As far as I've seen the game has taught me nothing about how crafting works - and yet i find crafting items all the time. I therefore have no idea how valuable these items are and if i should hang onto them. my inventory is a total mess and i'm paranoid about vendoring this stuff.

The dislikes i have, to be clear, are MINOR gripes i have to observe. I'm having a blast with the game so far and i would recommend it to anyone curious about the game. I think it's clearly worth the (current) $18ish USD price tag to try it out. The game is currently capped at level 20 i think. For me that means i'll play my lil toons and enjoy the exploration and if i get bored at the level cap of 20, i'll stop playing and keep it installed and wait for more content. this games feels likeit'll be easy to take a break from and return to when there's more content. I totally accept in it's in EA and that i'm engaging with it before full release. Devs seemed to be clear about setting expectations which i appreciated.

My vote? Give it a go! it's so fun!

Title.

I only stumbled on this game because i'm a board gamer/card gamer IRL and Steam currently has a game sale for "deck building" games. I figured i'd try this one since it was just $8.

Here's a link to the video review if you'd like to watch it. It'll give you a feel for the game.

TL;DW - holy fucking shit, this game blew me out of the god damn water. I was STUNNED by how fun it was.

What I Liked

  • I think the graphics look great. For a card game where the animations are basically just a fun way to see a card play out on the battlefield, I think the game looks great. Cut scenes all look pretty good as well.
  • Audio is great quality overall. I think the voice acting is solid, but not amazing. The sound effects feel impactful and fun.
  • Card Gaming mixed with strategy tactical combat is SO FUN. I dunno what else to say here. I love that we can redraw cards, i love that movement is free, and that the Quick cards don't cast a card-action to play. This means sequencing is really fun and engaging.
  • Story is fine. Overall enjoyable. It's a super hero thing. Bad guys appear with bad plans and super heroes stop them. We get it. The cut scenes are often too long and the jokes aren't that funny and i find myself skipping dialogue. Don't get me wrong i love super hero stuff, but it's hard for some of it to be really compelling. However maybe it gets deeper as the game goes on. for the review format, i only play for 2 hours and edit it down so i've barely scratched the story's surface. I was suprised and enjoyed that we make our own hero that kinda pulled me into it a bit more. I can definitely hold space to see if the story gets more engaging.

What I Didn't Like

  • Cutscenes/dialogue is often too long. But we can skip some of it so that's perfectly fine. This is a minor gripe compared to how incredible the other aspects of the game are.

I'm wrapping this up because i want to dive back into the game rn. This game should be much better known that it currently is because it really is fantastic.

If anyone out there is on the fence about the game, i can't imagine you'd be disappointed for $8 right now.
