r/Eurostar

Eurostar has informed me of changes to my train timing of about 30 mins which means i will miss my GWR . Do i need to rebook?? Plz help.

Booked my Eurostar ticket from Amsterdam to London and GWR from London to Bristol . Eurostar has sent a mail saying there is changes to the timings of the train which is a 30 min delay . which leaves me only another 30 mins more to catch my GWR to Bristol which is not possible . Do i need to rebook my GWR tickets ? Is there someway i can use the same tickets i booked earlier. Thanks again.

Missed a €44 Eurostar ticket. Is it worth waiting for the price to drop again?

I was about to book a ticket with Eurostar today and earlier the one-way price showed as €44. When I checked again a bit later, it had suddenly jumped to more than €80 for the same trip.

From what I understand, Eurostar doesn’t increase prices based on cookies but instead uses price brackets depending on how many tickets are left in each tier.

Does anyone know if there’s a chance the price might drop again if I wait a few days before booking? Or once it jumps to the next bracket, does it usually stay there?

A Few Questions Regarding Travelling London to Amsterdam

Hey folks, I had a few questions that would help me settle my plans for travel and was hoping you knowledgable folks might be able to help;

  1. How much time should you plan for when arriving, is it like an airport where a few hours prior to departure is advised? One of my current options is the earliest train direct to St Pancras which would get me in at 5:42am with a Eurostar departure of 6:16am. I assume this is too tight of a turn around which leads me to my next question...

  2. At London St Pancras would it be possible to wait there overnight for the early Eurostar? If I were to get the last train the previous day which gets me in at 1:43am, is the station open for somewhere I could just sit and read until my train in the morning?

  3. It seems that the Eurostar isn't running between Amsterdam and Brussels on the date that I am meaning to return, is it much faff to go from Amsterdam Central > Airport > Brussels then hop on the Eurostar from there? Any complications I should be wary of for making such a diversion?

Appreciate any answers folks can provide!

Seat with window view

Hi,

It is my first time to use the train and I want to experience to be exceptional. 😎

Is my seat (81) have a full window? I see there is a notch of wall in the map. Should I change it to seat 74 or 54.

Thank you 🙏🏻

Food on Eurostar plus

the last time I ate on Eurostar the food left much to desired and I’ve been scathing of it ever since. Yesterday I needed to get home quickly and the only way to get on this train was to upgrade to plus . it is only fair I now put the record straight. This was lunch time, so I cannot comment on evening or breakfast options.

i took the non veggie option of paprika chicken which was served cold, it was totally fine and quite tasty. As mentioned elsewhere, there was no desert. Drink options were wine, water, tea & coffee, served by a very cheerful lady.

think of it as a light lunch and you won’t be too far off. It has improved IMO

Can I bring a portable blender on the eurostar?

The only reason i need this blender is because I have dysphagia. I need to blend most of my food to eat it. I tried looking on the website but it was still unclear. Has anyone bought one with them with no issues? Mine is just a cheap no name brand from amazon.

Voucher balance

Hi all,

I had to reschedule our train tickets and ended up with a large balance remaining on an evoucher that expires 26 June. I live in the states and am unable to use the remaining $334 USD. Would anyone want to buy the remainder at a discount? Open to prices, just don’t want all of the money to go to waste.

Are delays on Eurostar common or just bad luck when it happens?

I boarded it for the first time in ages recently, travelling for work and already a bit tight on time because I had an important meeting to get to. The plan was pretty spontaneous, so there wasn’t much room for anything to go wrong. Then suddenly there’s an announcement about a delay. Not massive, but enough to make me start checking the time every few minutes and doing that mental calculation of whether I'm still going to make it. Ended up getting there just in time and didn’t miss the meeting, but it was way more hectic than it needed to be. Now I’m not sure if that’s just one of those things or if delays are actually pretty common. Anyone who travels regularly knows what it’s usually like? As I might need to travel again and I don't want this to happen again.

Brussels-London-Brussels regular commuters: Any benefits to Etoile status?

Just hit Carte Blanche status, so I'm wondering if this is the end of my hopes and dreams of a better journey with Eurostar.

Possible SNCF strikes in late June?

Travelling London to Paris 26–30th June and getting a bit anxious about the SNCF strike threat in June. I booked after the current disruption window (up to 17th May) but obviously that doesn't mean much.

I haven't travelled on the Eurostar since January 2020 (and that was London to Amsterdam) so I'm very out of practice. For anyone who's dealt with this before — if SNCF do strike, does it actually knock out the London–Paris service or just reduce it? And how much notice do they usually give?

I can see there are already some cancellations on Paris–Brussels 18th May-27th July due to operational restrictions. Nothing on London–Paris yet, but wondering if that's a sign of things to come.

I have the option to postpone for free and could switch to flights, but not sure if I should do that now or just keep an eye on it. It's my birthday trip and I have an Opera Bastille ticket on the 27th June so really don't want to get caught out!

Space for carry on luggage at seats?

We have seats reserved on Eurostar Premier from Amsterdam to Paris. If there’s no room in the overhead racks for carry on luggage, is there space at the seats to keep the luggage? I want to avoid putting the luggage on the main luggage racks due to theft.

Has the Eurostar EES system officially started?

As of latest is the EES system fully functional from London to Paris? Are passports being stamped?

Transportation Epsom to St. Pancras

Hi all.

Coming for a london trip with a 6:15 am eurostar on a Tuesday to Amsterdam. What would be the most cheapest way to get from Epsom to St. Pancras for this early morning euro star and how early should one be there.

Thanks !!!

The “sandwich struggle” at Eurostar security…

Completely forgot about the rules on taking meat and dairy into France. Saw a guy yesterday having to bin a pretty expensive M&S ham and cheese toastie right before boarding, such a waste 😭 Looks like they’re doing spot checks on food again at the moment. Has anyone else had anything taken off them recently? What’s a safe snack to bring that won’t get binned?

Is Eurostar Plus food actually getting better or just more “experimental”?

Done a few trips since the rebrand and the menus feel a bit hit or miss. Had a beef stew on one trip that was genuinely great, but on my last one the seasonal salad was so light I ended up grabbing a toastie from the café after 😅 Is Plus still worth it for the food, or is it mainly for the extra space now? What’s the best (or worst) thing you’ve had on board recently?

Share some examples of your winning plus or premier bids

We're due to return from Paris to London in July. Stupidly I didn't upgrade to plus 2 weeks ago when it was £90 between 2 of us. For some reason it's now £160ish. Weirdly, if you were booking fresh, theres only £90 between standard and plus.

I was thinking of leaving it and bidding closer to the time and seeing what they accept or maybe calling to ask if they'll just give me what's available on the website.

Anyway, I've never bid for an upgrade. Has anyone done so successfully? If so, share the details and context. What did you bid for what and when?

Cheers!

Snap from London—Paris (May 15-21)

Apologies, I have never traveled using Eurostar before and need some advice.

Because a UK bank holiday is on May 25, are Snap tickets unlikely to release for a May 15 (Friday) departure and May 21 (Thursday) return from London<>Paris?

Thank you all in advance for your thoughts.

First time, not impressed

Where do I begin.

The trains seem old, the cafe is lacking, the seating is crap and the people are worse.

I took a London to Amsterdam train and I found that it took me the same time as a flight overall. The waiting area at St Pancras is TERRIBLE with its overcrowding.

The Amsterdam side is even worse and there’s barely any food options.

The first thing I noticed was how out of date the trains looked. They weren’t exactly clean either. The cafe has very little in terms of options which I was surprised given how long some of the journeys are.

Finally, the passengers. Most of them I found were rude, entitled and just a bit unpleasant. I’m not making some veiled comment about nationalities. I include allll passengers here UK and EU.

I know you can get the same in airports too of course, but I had bad experiences going out and in. I sat at a table (probably my fault) and both times the person opposite was kicking me. I’m so short that they really had to stretch their legs out. I found people were weirdly possessive over table space too.

I should preface I do long train journeys regularly around the UK and in Europe and I’ve never had these level of issues with seating. People were rude, kicking me, moving my stuff and generally unpleasant. I didn’t find the staff all that friendly either.

Overall, after considering the price and how much time the whole journey takes, it just doesn’t feel worth it to me and it’s a shame given the environmental cost planes have.

I wonder if I just got unlucky or anyone else has found this with Eurostar.

Pants 4G/5G on EE network UK side

Anyone else had issues with this on EE network? As soon as the train pulls out of St Pancs until it comes out of the tunnel in France the mobile data is unusable except for very brief intermittent moments and weirdly enough the best part is in the tunnel!

Once my phone figures out it’s in France and connects to French networks it’s totally fine. So it can’t be related to the train and its speed.

Just really weird as EE is supposed to be the premium network in the UK…
