Is the Yamaha P515 really better than the newer P525?

I've been considering upgrading my ancient Alesis QS8 to something better, and have been looking at the Yamaha P525. I haven't yet had to chance to try one, but I have read several comments from people who think that the P525 is worse than the older P515 that it replaces. One YouTube reviewer ("Angelo (Professional Musician)") had two lengthy videos describing the P525 very positively, only to retract their opinion later saying they couldn't get on with the action (and maybe some other issues).

My understanding is that the P515 action is fairly heavy and the P525 (with GrandTouch-S action) is on the lighter side, similar to the Kawai ES920's RHIII action.

I suppose the differing opinions *could* just come down to a preference for a heavy or light action, but there is some implication that the P525 has other defects.

Would anyone care to add an informed opinion? Thank you!

Digital piano with best "felt" sound - 2026

I'm looking for a digital piano with that warm "indie movie" piano sound. No VST, just plug and play kind of piano.

Under 1500€.

I know about the Kawai es520, Yamaha p151, but the samples I've heard doesn't convince me enough.

Any thoughts?

Portable Piano, delivery let it fall on the floor!

https://preview.redd.it/k7p9max9zv0h1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cbeb839b9f30cf83a291801bca03dd1a8be33ee5

I ordered a portable piano, which got delivered by UPS today, I live in a flat on 3rd floor with a lift so the delivery driver rang my intercome (downstairs) I press the key to let him enter the building, he brings it to my flat , he let the package leaning on the (door) of my flat, then he left immediately, as I come to open the door the whole 16KG standing package of the Korg D1 drops on my entrance corridor, and bang! that’s how I received my D1 ! Also between the door and the corridor there is a 3 inch ramp which hit the packaging but it didn’t show any clear dent in the packaging, it was originally a discounted board already (B-stock/returned item) and the packaging looked rough from presumably previous deliveries and returns. If the delivery driver just let it lean against the wall instead of the door which he should have thought I will open any moment, non of that would have happend.

Honstly I wouldn’t make a fuss about this if it was a light 2KG 49 keys synth action controler, but this is a 16 KG weighted hammer action keybed piano, a fall like that could easily damage the internal mechanism even though the RH3 key action is quite robust, but still.

I feel utterly gutted by the handling of UPS delivery, it all happened in a split of a second, I couldn’t have catched the package from the fall, I wasn’t expecting such an unprofessional way of leaving a fragil item leaning on the door.

Anyone, here with experience of buying new weighted keyboards and similar delivery damage, what would you advise me to do ? should I accept the package and open it, with the possible risk, or just return it to the music store without even opening or inspecting any possible damage?

Abe Maria:Do i play the polyrythms quite ok ?

Been struggling with the 2 vs 3 poly for a long time , as well with legato appregios.

Think I have over complicated the different beats in the lh and rh.

I know, I am aiming bit early in the beginning, but hope I understood the polyrythms or I will go to hell :)

Hi all, I am upgrading my travel piano and am deciding between the ES120 and ES920, but I just cannot get past the awful body design and dull aesthetics. I wish they would have just kept the sleek design of the ES110/120 or ES8 with the curved cheekblocks. I am even okay with the move to plastic for cost and weight savings, as long as they kept in line with previous aesthetics, but they decided to just make everything...flat and square.

Its just not inspiring me to want to play and for $1.6K for a plastic black box I just dont know if I can. Looks like a generic chinese digital piano (see this Suzuki SL-1 Costco piano from 2012, as reference https://imgur.com/gallery/J4LLW3H). Its a shame because the ES120 has never looked better in its current iteration, and has had upgrades done all around from the es110 -new sample added, keybed support, improved cushioning/noise reduction, added function buttons, larger speakers going from 7Watts to 10Watt, new key surface texture, an upgraded body design with a new color (light grey).

Similar upgrades came with the ES920 which is very nice, except what happened with the aesthetics? Is it just me? I mean it must be the ugliest instrument I've ever seen. But the sound is probably the most natural and dynamic I've heard out of the box from any manufacturer to date. It really sounds like some concert grands I have heard, even if not as dynamic of course. But ughh that case, the button layout, that flimsy clear music stand...I dont know if I can take it serious as an instrument and not a toy. And by comparison that light grey ES120 has no right to be looking that good!

Kawai Novus NV6 with VST

I live in a flat and I'm in the market to buy a proper piano. I currently use a Roland FP10, so an upgrade is warranted.

I'm exploring options now and I've been eyeing the Novus NV6. I tested it already in a store and it plays very nice. Sound is decent as well, so that's a plus. However, they mentioned something about attaching a laptop, which would expand the sound library. Given that I have 0 experience with this, does someone know what this means? I checked with Gemini and it started talking about VSTs, but I'm not sure how the Novus NV6 works with them and I can't really find any videos that demonstrate this capability. Almost all videos I can find are the ones where they play the OOTB piano sounds.

Built a tool that turns song links into playable piano sheet music — would love feedback

I’ve been learning piano for a while, and one thing that always frustrated me was how difficult it could be to find good sheet music for certain songs — especially modern ones.

A lot of the time, the arrangements were either oversimplified, expensive, or just didn’t exist at all.

So I ended up building Sonata, a small app that converts song/audio links into playable piano sheet music automatically. The goal was to make it faster to turn songs people already enjoy listening to into something they can actually sit down and play.

Still improving the transcription and arrangement quality, but I’d love feedback from piano players or anyone interested in music tech.

If anyone’s interested or has suggestions, feel free to comment or message me.

Casio PX-S1100 for $300 for intermediate player?

Found a used Casio PX-S1100 for $300 in good condition on marketplace, comes with a stand and pedal included and features seem to be intact.

I'm an intermediate-ish player who's always played on an upright, but now that I'm in college I want something more portable in my own room to practice pieces on. Is the PX-S1100 a suitable instrument for someone at my level, and is this a good deal?

Thanks!

Do you recommend the Yamaha P-225?

I’m still learning the basics, but I currently study using the Yamaha PSR-E383. Im considering an upgrade to a reasonable digital piano. i was initially planning the Yamaha S35 or S55 because they’re slim but Im concerned with the price and fixed space lost buying it, in addition to the lack of portability to move/hide it when not using.

I’d like to buy the cheaper alternative possible but with a good experience to keep my growth until an acoustic one!

Thank you for the support

I used to play the piano when I was younger and living at home with my parents had a nice kawaii upright piano and loved playing, completed up to grade 7 in exams and was an intermediate to advanced ish player.

However after moving to the uk for uni I’ve not been able to play at all and now would love to buy an electric piano as it works for my flat. I’m a very broke nurse and can’t afford the expensive nice ones but would love to get a good piano under around 1000 pounds ish but I’m so stuck as there’s so many options out there

I would love some recommendations, just needs to be close to an acoustic piano sound and I hate the portable keyboard type. I also want to get the most out of the money I’m paying and get a durable piano that lasts heavy use until I’m able to move and afford buying an acoustic piano.

Would love any recommendations! :P

What budgeting slim piano for intermediate level do you recommend?

I’m still a beginner, but I’ve been studying piano as a hobby for a year in my Yamaha PSR-E383. I really want to invest in a digital piano to have the tactical and audible feeling of playing something near to an acoustic piano.

I don’t have too much space at home to put a regular digital piano, so Im considering to invest in a slim model.

I’ve checked “Yamaha YDP-s55 with GH3 keys” which seems to be incredible but also expensive (~2,400 dollars in my country) and there are other models a little cheaper like “Yamaha YDP-s35 with GHS keys” (~1,700 dollars) and “Cassio Privia PX-770 with Tri-Sensor Scaled Hammer Action II keys” (~1,200 dollars).

I would like to buy something durable, with great sound quality and good keys. I know I’m just starting but I really want to continue dedicating and learning, and the experience of simulating an acoustic piano motivates me. What do you recommend? Any other models? I saw some models from Rolland but they seem to have key mechanism issues.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate the support.

So I just found this electric keyboard at my attic. I’m not sure if this is the right subreddit to ask but this is the closest I could find. I plugged it in and it works but it has a weird sound effect on, I don’t know how to use it so I’m making this post to find help

u/EimaiMauros — 12 days ago

Hello. I hope this is the right place to ask.

Recently I’ve been thinking about learning piano and I’m not sure which model for beginners I should pick. I mainly want to learn how to play but also combine it with singing emotional ballads, so I’m focusing on the sound’s loudness and richness. A lot of people suggest buying ct-s1 76, s110 or Yamaha p-45 (which right now is unfortunately out of my budget), but a lot of people also say the first two are “toys” and I’ll quickly regret buying them. Which one would be best option? I’ve read on the internet that s110’s sound is flat and cheap sounding whereas ct-s1 76 has a fullness to it and much better speakers. I know weighted keys are seen as essential, and s110 has them, but will I find learning harder with them than without them? It’s tough decision for me, as it’s really my first purchase when it comes to anything piano/digital piano related, though I’ve been producing music for couple years already. I’ll appreciate anyone answering.

please help mee

Guys, I really need help picking a MIDI keyboard!

I’m choosing between the Launchkey MK4 37-key Mini and the Minilab 3 25-key.

I currently use FL Studio as my DAW, and I might switch to another DAW later. I’m still a total beginner.

I mainly want to make R&B and alternative R&B — similar to the style of Brent Faiyaz, Frank Ocean, and Kevin Abstract. I’ll be using a lot of samples and synths, and I’ll also make some rap tracks.

I know the Minilab is super well-known for its built-in sounds and key action, and tons of reviews say it’s the most beginner-friendly option. I don’t really care much about keyboard feel at all.

But the Launchkey 37-key has an extra octave, which I feel would be way easier to learn and get started with.

Which one would you recommend? I’d really appreciate it! My budget works perfectly for either of these two. ❤️‍🩹

Hi, I’m hoping someone could please give advice for using a stage piano in the home. For context, I’m not a great player I just enjoy noodling around but I am trying to improve.

Piano is my main focus, but I do like the ability to have more control with different instruments, synth , etc and layering that comes with stage pianos. Im leaning towards a Korg Grandstage X. How do I get a good sound experience in my living room. Could someone please advise what type of speaker/monitor would be most appropriate? I’m not looking for a clinical sound for production work. I just want to sit and play. AI tells me something like the Kali LP 6/8, but I’d love to hear from a real person. Thanks in advance. I really appreciate it.

Hi.

Have practiced this piece for months to get the left hand appregios smooth. Kind of achieved. Saw a youtu.be video about where the melody beats interacts with the bass, but a more skilled friend of mine said that tutorial was a simplified rhythm, meaning the treble actually dont hit together with the bass.

I am usually quire good on rhythm, but after maybe wrong learning, i have problems getting the rytmh correct.

I guess one could call this 4 against 6 or 2 against 3, which should be able to do math and counting breaking it down, at the same time I feel the lh should just roll freely and the right hand live in it's own rhythm space.

Confused now, any tricks to get these polyrythms correct?

Feels like treble should have a slight delay most over, sometimes beats a little bit before lh?

Tips?

Thanks.

Hi everyone,
I’m considering buying a Kawai CN201 as an upgrade from my Arius YDP142, and the mechanical key noise is my biggest reason. I play late at night with headphones in a small flat so I need something quiet and without the obnoxious thump. My Arius is old and really bad for it.

From what I’ve read the RHIII is supposed to be one of the quietest ones (felt cushions, springless hammer return etc) but I’d love to hear from actual owners.

If you own one of these pianos, could you let me know how loud the key thump is, and if it gets louder over time?

Any feedback would help me out greatly, thanks guys!
