Do I need ballet to major in dance?

Im a Tahitian, hula, hip hop, and jazz dancer as well as a cheerleader and I was thinking about majoring in dance but have very little ballet experience. Would that affect my chances of getting into a good dance program?

sweet but psycho - ava max (choreography by 1 million dance studio)

posted this yesterday but it didn’t look half as good because my space was too cluttered and i was covering my whole body in fear of being found out, but now i don’t really care to cover up because that’s not the main factor, it’s the dancing itself. now i think i can dance - i have karate and dance lessons when i was young to thank for that, but i’m not on a professional level in the slightest and i have lots to learn, however, with practice and genuine work i feel i’m better than most beginners, not to sound cocky or overconfident but i mean i watched the videos myself and i don’t look bad for a beginner at all, however i do want tips and honest critique, anything that’ll go into helping me improve is greatly recommended! i got tips from a friend of mine to put in more energy and it’ll give me more aura and charm when i dance but apart from that i’d love more advice!

Should i really give pro dance a go or should i keep it as a hobby

Im 19, am im figuring out what i want to do. I've always enjoyed dances, i use to love watching videos of royal family's proformances and i use to be in a club when i was 10/11 but I've always been shy so i never persuade it further and went the art route but now my passion for art has kinda died a bit. I recently (in the last 2ish years) have found my interest in dance again ,particularly through kpop though thats not the usual dance media i consume. I dont have the resources to go to lessons but I dance at home. I love making choreos in my head and watching proformance videos over and over, i worry that it's just a hyperfixation what will fizzle out. I dont even know where i should start or how i should progress. And dancing at home makes me more shy then being around strangers but i have nowhere to go. I don't think I've ever been passionate about something but i know music and dance makes me happy

Does anyone else struggle to find people to just... dance with?

Hello people,

I’ve moved cities a few times, and honestly, the hardest part wasn’t finding a studio - it was finding people.

People at a similar level or into a similar style who just want to create together casually. Not a class/ audition/ performance. Just finding someone who wants to show up, vibe, practice, maybe make a reel or two. No pressure, no big commitment.

I’ve tried Instagram DMs, Facebook groups, and even showing up to open studios, hoping to naturally meet people. Sometimes it works, but it’s weirdly hard.

How do you guys actually find your dance community in a new city? Am I the only one facing this problem? Is there something that genuinely works that I’m missing?

Looking for advice

I was admitted to a top performing arts conservatory for the fall, and I've almost been considering withdrawing my deposit. I love dance, but I don't think I'm good enough to keep up. I started dancing really late, and I feel like I haven't caught up technically, physically, or with the soft mental skills required for training of this caliber. I don't want to take the spot of someone more deserving, and I don't want to put myself through years of physical, mental, and social struggle just to enter a job market in which everyone is still better than me. Best case scenario, I'm going into a job market filled with talented people with more training. I don't know who I am or what I'd do without dance, which scares me because I don't think I'm a good enough dancer to have so much invested in it. Shouldn't I be better by now? I would love to hear from some other dancers and maybe get some advice on where to go from here.

Best hip hop choreography studios in the South Bay with real community?

Hey everyone, I’m a hip hop dancer in the South Bay (Cupertino / San Jose area) and I’ve been trying to find studios that are more choreography + performance focused, but also have a strong community where people actually become friends over time. I’ve tried a few places where classes are great, but it feels like people mostly just come and leave, and it’s harder to build real connections. Right now I’m looking at a few studios like workshop-based or choreography-focused ones (for example On One Studios / Purdance type environments). For people who dance in the Bay Area: * Which studios actually have a strong community/social scene (not just drop-in classes)? * Where do dancers tend to form real friendships or crews? * Are there any hidden gems for hip hop choreography + performance opportunities? Would really appreciate honest experiences rather than marketing vibes. Thanks!
