Froststat

Never even know this was here. Putting up chicken wire for climbers. Any one know if my partner should be booking an undertaker if it hit its wiring some where in the wall. There are no other wires running behind the wall.

How to strip paint for an old concrete sill?

Got new windows and the sills are looking fairly rough now! I scrapped off all the paint that would shift but the rest is fairly stuck on. Any suggestions on the best way to remove paint from concrete? Chemical strip? Grind? Heat?

Is it possible to source these coverings?

Closed on a house recently! A bit of tidying up to do externally, but one of the main issues I’m having is finding covers (or entirely new boxes) for these old esb boxes.

I’ve tried retailers, electricians, even asked the esb smart meter installer! But have hit dead ends everywhere thus far.

Any help locating a business that still sells them would be much appreciated.

How do I insulate this crawlspace?

I'm getting ready to address my D1 BER with hopefully an easy ish crawlspace insulation job. Spray foam doesn't appear to an option, no installers near me (Donegal) with time to do small jobs. Any recommendations for roll out insulation or blown-in fibre? I say blown-in but I'll likely be manually shifting it around.

*The block wall was is not external, add on room beyond it.

Moving the sink from center island to by the window

Hey so im not a big fan of the sink on the center island layout. Any thoughts on the cost of moving it next to the window instead? Am i better off doing it myself or hiring a professional? If hiring, then any suggestions where to go? Ive no clue about the plumbing situation too so any help is appreciated

Repair B&Q outdoor table

I'm wondering what the best way to repair this table would be? Less than 1 year old - appears to be peeling from the sun & rain.

Should I sand it, then stain and seal? Or sand and then use some combo seal/stain product?

I'm not sure of the procedure, or what products to use to protect it from the elements.

I did email B&Q about a replacement but they don't stock it anymore, and it doesn't seem like a huge job to fix it. The wood underneath the top layer seems fine.

Thanks.

Laminate floors (again)

So, I posted a few days ago asking for advice on fitting laminate floors. So many people came back with really great advice.

I have another question. This time its about edging. Going from the laminate to tile etc. I really don't want to use the standard silver/gold coloured aluminium edging. I think it looks cat.

Has anyone used anything different/more appealing looking?

Kitchen extractor fan vent

Hi,

any tips of what glue to use to attach an outdoor vent to a wavin pipe. I've had two different ones come down at different times due to storm and looking for a good adhesive.

will also appreciate advice on what filler/sealant to use to seal the gaps around the edges of it on the outside wall.

Cracks in ceiling and external walls 🤷‍♂️

Bought a 25 year old semi d last year.

Did some minor internal works recently involving putting a double door in a load bearing wall using a concrete beam.

Works were done by a credible builder with engineering sign off but since then cracks have started to appear all over the place.

First image is bedroom over the load bearing wall.

Second is a box room which seems to have new cracks on external walls.

Any point of view?

Cheers all

Old roof tiles / slate and solar - did you get a survey of roof done first?

My mid-terraced tiled roof is probably 80 years old but no sign of water ingress anywhere. The odd house around the neighborhood have got their tiles changed.

Question for people with old roof tiles / slate - did you get a survey of roof done first before putting up solar? Did you first replace the tiles / slate?

Having to replace the tiles adds cost changing solar from a no brainer into something I have to think about more.

Two story flat roof - anyone put solar up?

How was your experience? Did you first replace the felt (or other membrane) first? How were the panels secured to the flat roof? I'm particularly interested in people that had it done on two story flat roofs, less so on single story as single story is far easier to access.

Also I checked I am planning compliant for solar on flat roof so no need to comment on planning law thanks.
