Living alone is affecting my mental health

HI I am near Sholinganallur, software professional with hybrid work mode and I live in a rented house alone. As I live alone lately lack of interaction with people is taking a toll on my mental health and also being alone in the same room all week is like living in a jail. I planned to go to the library or some other place to read my book or do my assignment as I am studying for a course. But I couldn't find a proper place to do it. Are there many people facing the same situation like me?

Life Dilemma.

Hi Guys.

I am very thankful to be in this position and posting on this subreddit to get everyones views. I look forward to what everyone says and I welcome all opinions.

Also, I would like to thank you all in advance for helping me with my dilemma.

I have recently receieved a job offer from an organisation based in Chennai. They are highly reputable, and I am not yet comfortable to disclose the name. The offer made, will increase my in-hand salary, by at least 2.5X. However, it requires me to relocate to Chennai from Delhi. My wife has an equally respectable job in Delhi, and relocation is not an option for her as there is no way I will even consider leaving her job. She is in an UN affiliated role.

I am currently discussing with my prospective employer, what flexibility they have on offer for employees in my situation. Now I want your views on expenses, life in Chennai and anything else I should consider. I am looking to be in Chennai Mon to Fri, fly back Friday evening. And return to Chennai on a Sunday evening. My wife and I will alternate between who flies. The role is a 3 year role, with an eventual opportunity to extend and potential relocate back to Delhi.

I welcome your views and once again thank you so much.

PS - Mods I didn't feel it was right to post on the mega thread as I am neither looking for rental suggestions, nor is it a normal discussion. Please let me know an alternative way to post, if you disagree. Thanks a lot for your good work.

Delayed parcels from A2B

I am facing frequent delays while ordering in swiggy from A2B (especially Siruseri outlet). Most of the time, order timing for even ready items like idly, vada, pongal, meals itself shows minimum 40 mins. Even after this, on multiple occassions they delay beyond that and the rider will be waiting for 30-40 mins in hotel to pickup order. Hotel does not respond to calls or respond rudely to both riders and me. Have anybody else faced the same ?

Communication anxiety is affecting my confidence and career growth

29M, working in corporate, and honestly struggling a lot with communicating in English.

I can understand most things, but when it’s my turn to speak in meetings or with colleagues, I freeze. I keep overthinking my grammar, pronunciation, and whether people are judging me. Because of that, I avoid speaking unless absolutely necessary.

The fear and anxiety around this are starting to affect my confidence and career growth. Some days I feel exhausted just thinking about conversations at work. I’ve also struggled in interviews because I couldn’t express my thoughts confidently, even when I knew the answers well.

I watch more English movies and series to improve. I can understand most of the conversations, but when it comes to speaking confidently in real-life situations, I still struggle a lot.

Has anyone here gone through something similar and improved later? What actually helped you become more comfortable speaking English in a corporate environment?

Can I park my car in Chennai airport for 3 nights?

I will be travelling from Coimbatore to Chennai in my car for a work and will be leaving to Goa from Chennai the next day. I don't know if I can park my car in Chennai airport for 3 nights until I come back. Few people say it is not safe to do so, I don't have any other option as I don't have any of my close ones in Chennai at this time.

How much would it cost? Will it be safe? Any other better options?

In 20 years time chennai will be a case study on bad governance

Delhi Mumbai Bengaluru and Hyderabad have overtaken Chennai.

Next Pune Ahmedabad Gurgaon will also overtake us in the next 5 years.

We will be on the level of Nagpur Amaravati and Noida by 2040. (Probably they might also overtake).

Today Chennai holds virtually zero appeal for even non-resident Tamils who grew up in major metros like Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, or overseas.

Chennai's conservative lifestyle, lack of urban governance, dirty streets, lack of IT infrastructure, growing elderly class means the city will fall like bricks in the coming years

I grew up here, left for good last year, ensured my parents got a good gated society villa in Coimbatore and will probably never come back. And I know many people my age who feel the same.

Sad state of affairs

Any reliable shops in Chennai for advanced PC repair? (AM5 socket replacement + GPU diagnosis/reballing)

Hey guys,

I've got two separate hardware issues that need some chip-level / BGA rework expertise, and I'm looking for solid shop recommendations in Chennai.

  1. Motherboard: Need to get an AM5 socket replaced entirely (bent pins).
  2. GPU: Have a graphics card that's acting up. I suspect it might need reballing, but I need a shop that can actually properly diagnose it, and let me know what the actual root cause is before jumping straight to a fix.

Ritchie Street seems like the obvious place to look, but it’s a minefield if you don't know exactly who to trust for precision work like an AM5 socket swap.

Has anyone actually gotten successful BGA rework or socket replacements done recently? Let me know which shops/technicians you've had good experiences with! Thanks.

I watched Rajni's interview after elections and him stressing a lot(he literally emphasized) that Vijay won because of Social media. Now I see same with Stalin. Are they building a narrative or still living in delulu and not accepting the fact that people were frustrated with both dravidian parties?

Let's keep aside whether I personally happy or unhappy with Vijay winning. (Tbh, I'm super happy as he dethroned and busted lot of myths).

But doesnt DMK use social media?

Especially that 1 lakh chairs and 1.5 lakhs standing etc.? On the flip side even the YouTubers like aish kriti or whatever started giving muttu to karur incident. Both sides worked on social media.

Wasnt DMK heavily using Google and FB ads?

I now feel either DMK/Rajni still living in delulu or they trying to build a narrative that Vijay win was just social media thing(which isn't).

Post jallikattu all govts took social media seriously.

And NTK and DMK had social media presence for a decade.

PS: My point is, if someone says TVK won social media as one of the strategy then I would accept. But saying only strategy I won't accept. The problem here is TVK won only because of social media is pure delulu.

PSS: so people who used to get money for elections and vote, suddenly got the money and backstabbed ? Doesn't that itself prove a point that people were fed up with the parties..

PS: the entire 90s kid and so also learned and followed NTK only via social media. I have friend from 6 schools and 2 colleges i studied. And none of my relatives ever attended NTK podhu kottam. People who are commenting here, did you really attend NTK meeting or watched their videos online in last 10 years. That gives you the answer. Social media exists forever. But that alone can't make you win..period.

PS: the so called first time voters were 14.5 lakhs out of 5.45 crores of registered votes. Even if we assume 50 lakh people voted by social media infleucne or 100% of that 14.5.lkahs all votes for TVK, how comes the rest voted for TVK? Social media?? Again, I'm not denying social media didn't help at all..it was one of the strategies, but not the only thing that helped TVK win is my point.

Three Language Policy

The three-language formula sounds good on paper, but how it will be implemented on the ground remains a huge challenge. My nephew studies in a state government school in rural Andhra Pradesh affiliated with CBSE, where the Hindi teachers cannot even speak Hindi properly, let alone write it. This reflects the condition of many schools in our country, where there is a lack of quality teachers and adequate facilities to support proper learning.

Also, let us be realistic-how is English even considered a foreign language, and why is CBSE treating it as such? English is deeply ingrained in Indian society and our education system. It helps us communicate globally and gives us a significant advantage over countries like China and Japan, which have only recently started emphasizing English in their education systems, recognizing its importance as a global language. Our strong foundation in English has contributed significantly to economic growth, attracting multinational companies and creating employment opportunities for a large young population.

So why is CBSE treating English as a foreign language when it is one of our official languages?

Both major national parties, BJP and Congress, have long attempted to promote Hindi as a national language. However, due to strong opposition from non-Hindi-speaking states, they have not been able to enforce it directly. The current approach is indirect.

The implementation of the three-language policy reflects this. Two of the languages are supposed to be Indian languages. Students will obviously choose their mother tongue and English-the language that benefits their careers. This leaves the third language, and in most cases, Hindi becomes the default choice because schools do not offer viable alternatives, and students are left with little real choice.

At the same time, CBSE has not made computer education mandatory from Class 1, yet it introduces Al concepts in Grade 3 and coding in Grade 5. This approach is disconnected from ground realities. The focus should first be on strengthening the basics- the foundation upon which all advanced learning depends.

There are also concerning practices at the school level. Thin kindergarten books of barely 50 pages are sold for ₹1000, often without any publisher or author mentioned, and are not available elsewhere. Such malpractices exploit parents and highlight weak regulation.

While it is good that CBSE is attempting to modernize an outdated system, reforms must be practical and grounded. There should be mandatory computer education, nutrition awareness, and civic sense training from Class 1 onwards. From Class 5, students should be introduced to real-world skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, cooking, cleaning, basic automotive maintenance, sewing, and stitching. From Class 9 onwards, more advanced and career-oriented subjects like coding, robotics, cybersecurity, graphic design, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship should be offered.

Students should also be encouraged to participate in community service activities, such as visiting elder care centers from Class 4 onwards, to develop empathy and a sense of responsibility.

Additionally, NCERT books alone are often not sufficient to push students academically. As a result, parents and schools rely on supplementary materials to ensure better outcomes and prepare students for future challenges.

Feel free to share your opinion.

Worst experience with Geetha home foods

Got scammed in food subscription. There is a food service called "Geetha home kitchen" or "Geetha home foods", their ads were on my feed for a long time. Decided to give it a shot. They said 8500 per month (6600+1500 delivery charges) then later agreed to 6600. So just to be safe I asked for a trial week. I paid 2100 for a week's food for 2 meals each day. Got 3 lunches 2 dinners. After that no response to my texts tried calling them 10 times daily. They are not picking the call. Just a heads up to anyone looking to buy from them. DONTTT. Even the food quantity and quality is not worth the price.
