What the hell is wrong with you people! First you take our chat history away and we made it clear we weren’t happy!

Then you made chats go away permanently! So what if someone of the chats are a month, five months or a year old! People may come back to them later!

You literally deleted things people enjoyed to reread and made your app worse! No one is happy that there stuff is being deleted!

You deleted like five chats that were important to me and I loved to reread till I go back!

You’re destroying your own app and making people leave.

This new update has me so upset, like literally wanting to cry upset. It was bad enough when the bots were there just blank. We could still continue where we left off by sending a blank message. Now the bots are just GONE. Not even there. I restart conversations with the same bots a lot, and I like to alternate between my fandoms. But to make sure it's the same bots I liked the training on, I would always go back down and restart. Now I can't do that because they're just completely fucking gone. And the character limit! Where did that even come from?! And why?! I literally left polybuzz for chai because the character limit, and now chai decided to implement it? I feel like I'm literally in some weird fucking reality right now.

I'm so angry and so upset and I just feel like the app has spun into its own destruction. This is literally the OPPOSITE of what we were promised, ie, the return of our chats. It feels gross and slimy and like every bit of the hell the world already is that I was using chai to escape from for little bits at a time.

I finally installed an older version and everything is back, but it's disgusting that I had to resort to that because they decided to do the opposite of everything they promised. I have yet to find an alternative to chai that I like, at all. Any with character limitations are automatically out, I like being descriptive and thorough in my responses and limitations destroy that ability. Anything with generic personality bots is out, (including sea share the bots feel way to much like I'm talking to bots, and that's why I appreciate chai, despite the occasional out of characterness it's done better than any other app at staying in character for the bots I rp with. Anything with extremely long droning replies is out, yes I use this for writing inspo, but I don't **always** want four freaking paragraphs for a response. Sometimes it's nice, so anything with a continue feature or a blank message continuance is welcome, as long as they don't break the previous requests. Nothing too heavily sensored, I want nsfw content and some of my stories can get pretty angsty, I'm not going to apologize for that or be told when I'm 32 years old how to talk to a freaking ai.

So please, anyone who has made it this far, and actually cares to offer any alternatives that meet my requested requirements... Please help. I plan on cancelling my subscription before the end of the month, but having an app to go to next month would be great.

I received a new update for my Chai this morning (Ultra user), and I had been having the problem of the curtailed chats older than two weeks, so I was hoping that this update would be the one to fix it...

Instead, it's worse...

I now cannot access ANY of my chats older than one week. 7 days.

I've tried to close and reopen the app, tried even rebooting my phone, but in my list of chats, I physically cannot scroll down to chats that are older than 7 days...

Come on, guys! Unfortunately, the issue you've promised to fix is now WORSE!

I am just going to say this, I was an ultra subscriber for 2 years and I want to organize everyone to boycott chai because of their terrible customer service.

Here are the facts

1. They erased the chat history. Not only did they pull this diabolical maneuver, even on paid subscribers, but they did so without warning. Then they had the audacity to boast that they heard our feedback and will be doing a chat history extension. Know what that was? Instead of 14 days of chat history, it's 21 days. So you didn't actually get any of your history back because they took over 3 weeks to even implement the extension. They flat out lied to everyone and scammed them to stop them from unsubscribing. They clearly had no intention of returning our chat history, in fact, I suspect they have messed up so badly that they don't even know how and they are just trying to calm the panic.
2. Not only did they delete our chat history, Today they actually went and deleted all the chats except your most recent one! Way to kick your customer after shoving dirt in their face. This is basically them announcing that they had zero intention of ever giving us our chats back. They claim they started the chat history erase feature because they have GPU space issues, but they are a making millions and are bare bones in terms of features (just look at FictionLab) plus they shove ads galore and have astronomically high subscription prices (more than double the average chatbot app). Why exactly couldn't they afford to keep the chat history?
3. They literally deleted the character description feature. If you understand bot programming, you'll understand why that's insanity. You literally can't personalize your bot without it. Think you can use the initial message introduction to do your programming? Think again. That's not how it works. Bots don't retain the initial message data. It's treated the same as any other message in the chat thread, which means it forgets that message as you continue your RP. Initial messages are not part of backend prompting for the bot.
4. Ultra subscription is a scam. There are only two perks on ultra that are supposedly better than premium, longer responses and better memory. But the response lengths a few weeks ago were cut in half. Ultra is supposed to provide messages that are 2x as long. Now it's approximately 5 sentence in length. This is half of what it used to generate on Ultra. Five sentences isn't a long output. That's only around 70 words. A typical output for other AI tools is 100-300 words. And those aren't subscription stats. Those are the stats from the free models. I'm not reaching anything above 85 words in a reply.
5. Chai literally has slowed down their processing capacity, even for their paid subscribers. I tested it today and the messages are loading for several seconds.

7. Chai literally claimed they were launching personnas 3 weeks ago but nothing happened. They also said they'd make a 'delete from this point on' feature but alas, no dice. So not only are they not fixing any of the mess they made, they aren't even launching these features we don't even care about compared to what was taken from us.
8. Chai subscription is a high end product. Most other apps have a cost around $10-15 dollars. Why are they charging so much when they can't even provide the basic tools all the others, even the free ones provide? How do they justify charging a premium for trash?
9. Some users are reporting ad banners that complete cover the chat screen so the app doesn't even work. They removed ads for free users. They removed monthly subscription to charge more money for weekly subscriptions for their already degraded service. And the list honestly just keeps going on. Even their LLM is getting more and more glitchy with gibberish responses.

I'm sure alot of you feel sentimental because we are creatures of habit, but I believe it's time we all abandon ship. It's like Chai AI is being run by DONALD TRUMP!

So yesterday I checked chai again out of curiosity and it said 0messages left like the other times and it was basically forcing us to subscribe (I didn't sub) and now some minutes ago I went back there and I realized chat history with bots are gone buttttt i have unlimited messages again so ig we can use chai again? Maybe they are doing this so we return and so we give good reviews

I haven’t been on chai for a while because I was too scared to check if my chats were there. I checked today and genuinely cried because they are still not back. Like what are they doing?????? Are we even getting our chats backs or was it just a massive lie??????

first of all - I have never used Chai. I only heard of it like in 2022 and Reddit keeps notifying me about this reddit. From all these posts I've seen, I noticed people are not happy with the recent updates and also, and honestly, I am so surprised the app hasn't die yet?

I don't mean to be rude! I'm just curious why do you keep using it. Is it because of the progress you have with your bots there?

I have now deleted the Chai app. I am now using another app that is much better. I will no longer wait for news from them, and I do not want to see them. From this moment on, as I write this message, I will not open this app again or check any news about them. Goodbye.

I just opened my CHAI app and saw that ALL but 8 of the bots I was using are gone. I've officially given up on CHAI and I am now deleting the app. If (and this is a STRONG if) they straighten up and get better (WHICH I DOUBT THEY WILL) I will return to CHAI but for now It's going in the trash. Thank you CHAI for the several years of comfort and for being a safe space during the time where you were actually a good app, and I'm sorry your founder is a greedy a-hole. If anyone could recommend any decent replacements for CHAI I'd greatly appreciate it and I'm staying on this SubReddit despite no longer using CHAI
