college advice 😣

(posting in multiple threads)

hello everyone!!! I am stuck between a few school options and would love advice from recent alumni or current students. I am from a girl from the sacramento-ish area and my five school options are california state universities. I have narrowed it down to san jose, sacramento, or sonoma state university, all with a communications degree. It is the only thing that has interested me so far but I am still pretty undecided about what i’d like to do!! I really don’t want to live on campus since I have to bring my 3 cats with me but I do plan to continue working serving jobs consistently during school. I am pretty social, so I would love to be somewhere where there is partying, but I don’t want to be blacking out everyday lmao. I am not too worried about being unable to put myself out there, more just if there’s enough people who will like me. I am planning to join clubs but not a sorority. one of my biggest concerns is just being able to find housing off campus that won’t have me constantly worrying about how i’m going to pay my rent. for the surrounding area, I would love if there is activities to do like shopping and good restaurants but also hiking and places to go out with friends (but probably more city leaning). I’m planning on bringing my car with me so i’d love advice on how it is commuting/parking as well. I am definitely more laid back and chill so good people who aren’t super stuck up or uninviting is important to me! Any advice on how food is on campus would be appreciated. Safety is also extremely crucial so i’d love feedback on the safety of the schools and surrounding areas. I am lucky enough that my tuition will be covered by the cal veteran program, but I don’t know how that will affect my financial aid but at this point I’m assuming it will decrease it significantly so any notes on finances are also appreciated!! Are there any internship opportunities, and how is getting into classes you need and professors/advisors?

I know sac state has lots of housing and restaurant job opportunities surrounding the area which is a pro, but I would love to hear more about the environment in the school. everything i’ve seen about the school partying/socially honestly looks like too much 😭😭 I enjoy partying but not like mosh pit type parties if that makes sense? I know sac has a great business program but id love to know how their communications is as well. If there is any notes about academics or anything else you think is important please let me know!! thank you all!!! :) 💕

What's life really like on campus as a freshman?

Hey there, my son is considering CSUS and we just visited campus today. I actually thought it was a beautiful campus and felt much more akin to the college town I went to in Colorado (Boulder). I'd even say it felt a little like UCLA as well in some ways (we're from LA).

My son is hoping for a more traditional early college experience, where he gets a chance to really bond and develop friendships with new people. But I'm also seeing many people (and statistics) describe Sac State as more of a commuter/transfer campus.

With the new 2-year housing requirement for non-locals starting next year I guess the answer to this question could change, but for those of you attending now or who have attended in the recent past, have you had a good experience socially at CSUS? Do kids hang out on weekends? Do students venture off-campus together and make the most of the city/area?

TIA!

Summer ACCY elective to Graduate with

Hi yall, I planned my courses to walk this semester and then take my very last two classes over the Summer, which would be GM105 and then one more ACCY elective. I planned to take ACCY 113 Internal Auditing since the website said it would be listed in Summer but go figure it just, isn't. For whatever reason. CSU Fully Online isn't available in Summer so I would need to take one of the following electives via another university's equivalent thru their open program in the Summer to have everything go as planned:

ACCY 117

ACCY 122

ACCY 132

ACCY 143

ACCY 161

ACCY 172

ACCY 190

ACCY 199

AIS 142

ACCY 133

I'm obviously communicating with the campus and other college's to see what other campus' can save me here but wait times and all that, so if anyone here was/is in the same situation as me and knows of another school that can offer a CSUS student one of these course equivalents over the Summer so I don't have to wait and wait through the email systems that would be amazing.

Lease Takeover

Hi everyone, I am looking to take over a lease, preferably at any of the surrounding apartment complexes at Sac State, starting this August.

I am only looking for a private bedroom and a private bathroom.

Thank you in advance!

Any comments/advice is appreciated.
