college advice 😣

(posting in multiple threads)

hello everyone!!! I am stuck between a few school options and would love advice from recent alumni or current students. I am from a girl from the sacramento-ish area and my five school options are california state universities. I have narrowed it down to san jose, sacramento, or sonoma state university, all with a communications degree. It is the only thing that has interested me so far but I am still pretty undecided about what i’d like to do!! I really don’t want to live on campus since I have to bring my 3 cats with me (and i’m not keen on sharing a room, bathroom is okay) but I do plan to continue working serving jobs consistently during school. I am pretty social, so I would love to be somewhere where there is partying, but I don’t want to be blacking out everyday lmao. I am not too worried about being unable to put myself out there, more just if there’s enough people who will like me. I am planning to join clubs but not a sorority. one of my biggest concerns is just being able to find housing off campus that won’t have me constantly worrying about how i’m going to pay my rent. for the surrounding area, I would love if there is activities to do like shopping and good restaurants but also hiking and places to go out with friends (but probably more city leaning). I’m planning on bringing my car with me so i’d love advice on how it is commuting/parking as well. I am definitely more laid back and chill so good people who aren’t super stuck up or uninviting is important to me! Any advice on how food is on campus would be appreciated. Safety is also extremely crucial so i’d love feedback on the safety of the schools and surrounding areas. I am lucky enough that my tuition will be covered by the cal veteran program, but I don’t know how that will affect my financial aid but at this point I’m assuming it will decrease it significantly so any notes on finances are also appreciated!! Are there any internship opportunities, and how is getting into classes you need and professors/advisors?

My biggest concern with san jose is just finding somewhere to live without overall cost of living killing me. Any advice about how on campus apartments or off campus housing would be super helpful! I know sj has more internship/job opportunities because it is a larger city which is a huge pro. If there is any notes about academics or anything else you think is important please let me know!! thank you all!!! :) 💕

I know sac state has lots of housing and restaurant job opportunities surrounding the area which is a pro, but I would love to hear more about the environment in the school. everything i’ve seen about the school partying/socially honestly looks like too much 😭😭 I enjoy partying but not like mosh pit type parties if that makes sense? I know sac has a great business program but id love to know how their communications is as well. If there is any notes about academics or anything else you think is important please let me know!! thank you all!!! :) 💕
