What's life really like on campus as a freshman?

Hey there, my son is considering CSUS and we just visited campus today. I actually thought it was a beautiful campus and felt much more akin to the college town I went to in Colorado (Boulder). I'd even say it felt a little like UCLA as well in some ways (we're from LA).

My son is hoping for a more traditional early college experience, where he gets a chance to really bond and develop friendships with new people. But I'm also seeing many people (and statistics) describe Sac State as more of a commuter/transfer campus.

With the new 2-year housing requirement for non-locals starting next year I guess the answer to this question could change, but for those of you attending now or who have attended in the recent past, have you had a good experience socially at CSUS? Do kids hang out on weekends? Do students venture off-campus together and make the most of the city/area?

TIA!

College visit this weekend

Hey there, I’m bringing my high school senior-age son to visit SF State this weekend. We've been to the city as a family recently but I wanted to maybe show him a little more of what living there would be like should be choose to attend SFSU.

We're free Friday night; any fun places I can take a 17 year old to get a taste of the city (as he would enjoy it as a college kid)?

I see that Mortified is happening at DNA Lounge and I know he'd love that. Any other events or good gathering spots?

Thanks!
