Is this baby bird Okay?

The upper floor of my house is under construction (almost done), so in one of the room on the fall ceiling corner, there was a bird nest.

I think this baby bird fell off from her nest.

It was crawling on the floor.

Her legs look like this, folded. And she can't walk or fly.

I put her on counter of that room, so when her mum comes she will put her back. I waited the whole day but that baby is still on the ground. Poor bird haven't eaten anything.

Did made a mistake by touching her?

I'm so burnt out

I wish he was just able to eat properly at the very least, that would've sold most of our problems.

I have to syringe feed the emeraid formula and he doesnt have much of it, he definitely has some because I noticed better changes in droppings but it gets so messy and he trembles afterwards because of fear.

Those who dont know, in about 2 weeks time he is due for a repeat XRAY which is £150+ and they'll charge consultation too im guessing (£70) and then thats when im thinking about asking about infection tests like faecal (gram stain) and bloods which will cost more. The reason im not testing for infections right now is because there's no dangerous signs and I will likely have to pay for ANOTHER consultation (£70) plus the one in 2 weeks. Everyone who donated thank you so much❤️, all of it will be going towards the medical bills for the vets, i dont know what i could've done without everyone's help. One of the vets suggested hospitalisation but that would be ridiculously expensive. Hes still eating but not properly so if the vets have to crop feed that would have to be a few times a day, and I'd have to go back and forth every single day which is a 2hour commute. and if im not sure if u can leave him at the vets till hes better but even that would be crazy expensive

Im not sure why he isnt eating properly or if the metal is still bothering him but thats why we were given a chelator medicine, its only been 6 days since hes been on it. He does crush the food, ive seen pellets dust but im not sure if hes swallowing enough of it.

How did he go from the healthiest bird to this condition in a matter of days. I made sure to give them the best life I possibly could and then this happened. The last time I was this stressed was when my other budgie who is still with us hurt her foot, it was quite expensive and I managed it all myself without telling anybody but at least she was able to eat and rest it. His one just seems so scary you never know what could happen🤕

Rescued a barn swallow, don’t know what to do with it. Please help.

Thanks for the advice, but I’m afraid she just died…

My daughter and I found this barn swallow that wasn’t moving and that was in a dangerous area (with lots of neighbourhood cats), so we took it home and put it in one of our vacant (clean) rat cages. We bought some cat food, mashed it up and tried to feed it to him, but he won’t eat. The only local vet is a regular vet that knows nothing about exotic animals and there are no avian vets anywhere near here. Can anybody help us and give us advice on how to proceed with this little buddy? I would love to see him fly out of here in the near future, but at this point, I’m not even sure he’ll survive… We named him Pete, which was probably a mistake, because it’s a clear sign that we are way too attached already…

What happend to my lovebird's feathers?

hi can anyone please let me know why my bird's feathers suddenly started looking like this?? It looks like he's losing them :(

He turned 8 this year, and as far as i can remember his feathers never got this bad. I've heard about stress lines, if it is so, how are some ways i can make him feel better? He doesn't have a mate ☹️

i feel like i should also add the fact that he doesn't pull them out himself.

Grit for metal?

Just got a call saying they've done Olive's blood test, they couldn't get enough for the heavy metal tests but she is certain hes got metal toxicity. Blood test detected anemia and she said something about the liver but isnt worried and hes all good. I will get the medical history for you guys.

My vet suggested grit for the metal. Anyone else who's bird suffered from metal toxicity could you share your experience? She said to use a very tiny amount of grit. I will ask again when im there but how long would grit likely be safe to use for? And she said to continue with the penicillamine. The course for this ends in 2 weeks. So I really hope we get some good news from the xray when this is over.

Did I make the wrong choice?

Im about to go back home now.

I had to leave Olive at the vets. They cant do blood test today but its tomorrow, they suggested i leave him because i cant take him in morning because im very busy and can bring him in after 5pm only. They've taken a poo sample and looks normal. They will also crop feed tonight.

He dropped from 52g to 39g in a week. He just about met the amount needed for blood test. Vet is worried if he loses more weight she cant do blood test (higher risk). He started eating from yesterday but is very picky. He ate only the canary seed and oat groats and before that he wouldn't even eat at all. Yesterday was the first time i saw his old self returning and today too a little bit, a little chirpier.

The blood test is £260 + however much the poo sample was plus consult. Im looking to pay £400+ tomorrow because I didnt take his medicines with me today i just didnt know I'd have to leave him behind, and she said they'll have to charge for that again now🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

This is what I mean, these costs are ridiculous and unpredictable. I thought I'd be fine after raising £600 but I guess not🫤 Not to mention his xray in two weeks which is another £152 oh my god. And I just deposited another £100 into the vet fund account myself. I only had £54 left in the vet fund bank so I cant thank yall ENOUGH! The reason im able to do this is because of you guys.

Unfortunately I will have to continue fundraising because again I have no idea what will happen next. Please share my link, thank you all again😭❤️‍🩹

More update: I think he will give up soon 😓

Day 6 of the illness now but day 4 of medicines.

Behaviour: Mostly sleeping with head tucked, wants to come out of the cage often, and shows a lot of energy and will to come out. Starts climbing, goes to the bottom of the cage and tries lifting the "floor bars", ends up mating ive never seen him do this when healthy. Sometimes chirps but mainly quiet.

Today, hes not been eating. As some of you may know already he refuses seeds because he knows he will throw up. So he started eating more psittacus micro pellets, but today he barely ate anything. He only had a few nibbles thats it. He flew abit but thats coz I was trying to put him back inside for his safety. When he comes out he just sits on top of his favourite spot in the room and sleeps. I cant let him because my other budgie likes going there too and his poop stinks fishy now and is mainly watery.

I cant tell if its the medicines that gave him low/reduced appetite or if its the metal still affecting him. When he sees my other budgie fly he wakes up in the cage and chirps a bit and tries to come out. Btw the metal is only a little flake, my vet said the medicines should help it come out but I dont know why his appetite is nearly gone.

I got so scared - but hes okay!

I got a call around 8am, I couldnt answer as I was a little busy but as soon as I saw the missed call I rang.

Its the way the receptionist said it and i thought he died. I even got a voicemail but weirdly I never get the notifications so she told me to listen to that too.

"Olive has had his bloods done, he was crop fed, he was seen eating again later by him self" (I left some food but I highly doubt he was eating it properly anyway). The vets will reassess him soon and tell me when I can pick him up.

I just didnt think it was normal getting a call at 8am because they open at 9 but yeah thank you everyone who has helped. Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ All the major tests are 90% out of the way, sounds like everything is going well. Just an xray in 1-2 weeks and hopefully that is also good news. And I hope something like this is never required again🙏❤️‍🩹

Good news but also a new symptom

Just as I was about to write a big thank you message and pause the fundraiser, I noticed a new symptom. He's improved a little bit. He can stay awake more longer than usual now and has let out a few chirps. He still isnt flying much but flew to my shoulder. So I see all these as a good sign of improvement.

He was on my shoulder as I was writing the post. I could hear with each breath (a very tiny click like sound). It doesnt sound too concerning as of now because he hasnt deteriorated further and there is no laboured breathing, but its a very quiet sound with each breath and u have to be pretty close to actually hear it.

We will be at his appointment soon so I will be talking about this too, hope he's got nothing contagious as he's been caged with his friend since the last emergency appointment.

Also i noticed the fundraiser goal has automatically went up, please ignore this. I wont add the link to this post as I believe i may have enough to cover everything for now, and i will try to cover the rest if needed. Thank you to everyone who has donated, even those who sent kind/positive comments. I will be at the vets soon and will update you all. I wanted to post all the bills together after 2 weeks (due to the next appointment and tests after this) but I dont want to keep everyone waiting. So this evening I'll be posting today's bill aswell as the recent ones.

What is this happening?

Is it a sneeze, cough, respiratory infection, or something else? Please tell me.

Hello! Help with rescued baby pigeon

I'm rushing, so I sincerely hope this is the best Reddit community to ask.

My friend needs help (she doesn't have Reddit so I'm posting this for her).

She has very very recently (about half an hour ago) found a baby pigeon stuck in the door of a house down the street and decided to rescue it.

But we don't know what to feed it.

It's also pooping a lot (we assumed it's naturally because of fear and/or it being too young).

She's currently taking it home.

What should we do to give it its best comfort? (Edit: Please tell us what we should feed it, as well. We really don't want to mess this up.)

All vets are fricking closed today due to bank Holiday. Im getting all brain foggy and panicking now. Ive been searching for an avian vet for a while and my exotic is closed.

My only option now is an emergency clinic but its a cats and dogs clinic not for birds really. I took my other bird to that one last time for a different issue but they didnt really do anything and just prescribed metacam and the total was ridiculous.

Im really not sure what to do now, hes throwing up occasionally or at least once he starts eating. They likely will just stabilise him but I doubt they'd treat it. Please help. What should I do? Should I still just go there now? its about an hour drive and they keep us for hours and I'll have to keep my other budgie at home which has separation anxiety

Next steps

Hi everyone, I have some good news. Today he started eating some seeds again, he was *very* picky about it, but im glad he still ate something, his weight has dropped significantly in just a week, so i will be discussing this too with the vet. Because of your kindness and the money I have set aside, I believe we now have enough to cover the costs and the initial tests. Im planning to do the blood test and faecal gram stain at his next appointment.

If anyone has any other test recommendations please let me know, and i will ask about those too. Because as soon as he shows me his improvement and making me happy he just crashes again, (lethargy, eating less, trembling). Like I noticed abit of tail bobbing too and had to instantly book an appointment. Its not bad but mild and noticeable.

In 2 weeks time he is due for a repeat xray to see if the metal is still there, so ultimately we wont know much of his outcome until that day. But i will still keep you all posted. Someone suggested calcium EDTA injections. My vet said the penicillamine should help him for now. If the xray does show us bad news then the injections is what will likely be happening next.

Thank you all for your support❤️

baby sparrow can't chirp!

we found this baby sparrow in the yard, it was about to be eaten by a cat but luckily my dad spotted it in time. it had fallen below the nest, we could hear more babies inside and could see the parents flying back and forth.

we brought the bird in to make sure that it's not hurt, then we tried leaving it out (watching from a distance) to see if the parents would spot it.

they didn't seem to notice, and on top of that we could see that baby bird was making the chirp/call movement, with no sound coming out. only a slight raspy wheeze when we held it up to the ear.

we waited a bit longer, then decided to hold onto it until it is ready to fly. which should be soon, since it is perching, hopping, and eating well.

baby bird also has a LOT of fleas :-( is this normal for sparrows? or wild birds in general? and why can't it chirp?

High energy?

I’ve noticed recently my budgie has been doing this fluttering twitching thing with her wings, she does it before she has a burst of energy morning and mid arvo, never seen this before in my budgies, and im unsure if it is high energy or something else.
She hasnt always done this it’s a recent thing.
I just want to confirm if its a high energy twitch shes doing and nothing more concerning

u/Moondancer103 — 14 hours ago

What is wrong with his wing?

His wing is twitchy and the feather position looks unusual, could it be sprained? Also he is more frequently picking at it...

He is chatty and can fly, doesnt look that bad, seaching for an avian vet rn.

Weird behavior after bath?

Today I gave my cockatiel a mist bath (with an aloe vera spray my avian vet recommended).

She doesn’t bathe daily, only when she wants to, and today she was clearly in the mood for it because it was warm and sunny both outside and inside (24°C in my house).

Shhe was absolutely loving the bath but right after she started acting really weird and it scared me so badly.

She was just sitting still, slightly spreading her flight feathers/wings, squinting her eyes, and she looked content but also somehow unwell at the same time?? Like sleepy but off. I genuinely thought something was wrong.

She stayed like that for maybe an hour, took a nap, and now she’s completely normal again and eating fine???

What also worried me is her poop seemed a bit looser today, but I recently got her back onto pellets after she refused them for a while, so her droppings have already been changing a bit because of that.

What’s making me panic more is that she had a fungal respiratory infection about a year ago.
She’s been healthy and stable for a long time now, but because of that history every little thing scares me.

There were no drafts or cold air btw, the house stayed warm the whole time.

I already booked a vet appointment for tomorrow just in case, but does this sound like normal post-bath bird behavior?? Like drying off/resting after enjoying the mist? Or does this sound concerning?

The fact she’s acting completely normal now is what’s confusing me the most. I’ll attach a photo with how she looked after the bath and some with her current droppings(lol) !!!

More update on bird with metal poisoning

Video taken right now (morning) Grinding beak for the first time in a while

I had to go to the emergency clinic yesterday evening because he was showing extreme signs of lethargy. Bare in mind he was kept separated in a hospital cage due to suspected infection. But maybe thats also the reason he decided to stop eating.

The vet only gave a pain killer, they wanted to do fluids but I forgot what they didnt do it for and avoid crop feed because of the metal and she believed if it is actually causing blockage then he may vomit up the entire contents and cause more issues. She suggested I keep them together to see how he behaves.

Now we couldnt test for anything because im really low on money now, ive already spent nearly £600. He may have an infection (bacteria), maybe not. I suspect canker now because of his vomitting few days ago but it all started since the metal flake entered his gizzard. He stopped vomitting but his poop has been quite watery (eating less) and more green. She said xray could be done again but you already know theres metal there and it could be extremely expensive and then testing for infections adds up more. I just dont know what to do anymore.

They have been caged together now, which he seems to be happy about. But I really hope he has not bad infections that my other bird can catch because im unable to test right now. It will cost another consultation fee, then tests + gram stain + more medicine + crop feed if necessary. I just cant. im trying the best i can to help him fight.
