How many people have gotten into a competitive program from being 1-20 on the waitlist?

What the title says, I’m probably gonna delete this after I get answers cause I’m just curious

Admissions/waitlist

Has anyone ever called Admissions and they have told you where exactly in the range you are? I am in the 1-20 position for a competitive program, and it makes a difference if I’m 2nd on the waitlist vs 19th.

Okay so hear me out.
I just wanted a sandwich, maybe a coffee. I go to the campus food court like any other Tuesday and I’m standing there looking around and I genuinely cannot find a single thing I recognize. Halal cart. Bubble tea place. Some kind of fusion thing with a lineup out the door. And I’m standing there thinking… when did this happen? When did I become the weird one for wanting a BLT?
I know, I know. “It’s just food bro.” Sure. Except it’s not just food and we all know it’s not just food. Food is culture. Food is signal. And the signal being sent on every Canadian campus right now is pretty clear if you’re willing to actually look at it: you are not who we’re designing this space for anymore.
And honestly? That’s kind of the whole thing in a nutshell isn’t it.
Because it doesn’t stop at the cafeteria. It never stops at the cafeteria. You go to class and half your philosophy course is now about why philosophy is problematic. Your history prof spends more time apologizing for Western civilization than teaching it. There are scholarship categories that you don’t qualify for because of your ethnic background and if you point that out you get pulled into a meeting about your “attitudes.” The campus DEI office has a bigger budget than the library. I looked it up.
And then people act shocked when you start connecting dots.
The federal government is importing over 400,000 people a year. Not quietly either, they’re pretty open about it. Toronto and Vancouver are already majority non-European. That’s not a conspiracy theory that’s a census. Your city changes, your campus changes, your food court changes, and if you say “hey this is a lot of change very fast and nobody asked me” you get called a white supremacist on Twitter and your post gets screenshotted into a subreddit about terrible people.
So you just… stop saying it out loud. You say it here instead.
The working class guys I grew up with aren’t on campus writing essays about this. They’re watching their wages get undercut and their towns change and their concerns get dismissed by people with lanyards and LinkedIn profiles who have never once had to compete for a job with someone willing to do it for less. Those guys don’t have the vocabulary that gets you taken seriously in a university essay. So they get written off as ignorant.
But they noticed the sandwich thing too.
I’m just the one writing it down.

CST Orientation Questions

Hey guys I hope you’re having a wonderful night.

- does anyone know what the closest visitor parking to student commons is?
- is there a point in attending if you can only make the last 30 -15 minutes?

I just got accepted into the new nursing program at the Ottawa Algonquin College campus after being 80-100 on the waitlist. I was wondering if anyone else who was waitlisted got an acceptance as well.

Advice for a school/future

Hello!!

I’ve never posted on Reddit but I thought now would be a good time.

I am 22 F and I will be going to school in the fall to become a paramedic. I currently work in Veterinary medicine at an ER and specialist hospital as a veterinary assistant. (In the emergency and critical care department) I have been working in Vet medicine for nearly 6y, and the change was something I have been considering since 2y in.

I’m already have my BLS and ALS for animals, as well as my CPR AND BLS for humans.

I was hoping for any good advice for school, or just anything general you wish you knew before going.

I’m looking at going for mechanical engineering technology at either Cambrian college or Algonquin college. I plan on doing the smith engineering bridge with queens university where after l earn my diploma I would transfer to queens into the 3rd year of mechanical engineering and get my degree. I have interest of working in the aerospace industry. These two colleges have pathways with queens for this bridge and are members of it.

I was wondering if anyone had insight on which school I should pick. Comparing the two course wise, Algonquin goes deeper into math which I do like. I’d likely pick the one with more theory in math and physics. I find the edge with Algonquin is that it’s in Ottowa so it’s near big aerosoace industry which would be good for coops and such. Also Algonquin has a rocketry club that has been participating in rocket competitions with universities. What are your thoughts? (Context: Cambrian dosent have a rocketry club and is in Sudbury which is more mine oriented).

If you’d like to check the courses to fact check me on the math and physics depth please go ahead it would be of help honestly.

Business admin core -QUA courses

I’m currently a student in the 3 year Business Admin Core program and I am going into my second semester. I was exempted from QUA0003 because I took it at another school. It was not that long ago since they counted it but it has been a while so I don’t remember a lot of what it included. I will still need to do QUA2343, should I redo the course so that I have a refresh for 2343 or will I be okay without it?
Is it possible to audit classes so I can relearn but not have it affect my gpa?

Thanks

As the title says, is it even worth it studying to become a nurse? I love PSW and to be a part of the healthcare team but the pay isn't that great so the only reason I'm considering to be a nurse is for the pay increase. Any thoughts? I still wanna work in healthcare but I'm not sure if nursing is for me. It seems like going to hell everyday plus nursing school seems super strict and complicated and almost everybody complains about it and I see students failing left and right.

Specifically bio/science or health related

I don't really mind, I'm not much of an arts person nor an engineering person

And if there isn't any for Algonquin maybe other colleges in Ottawa (I'd love to stay in Ottawa I don't want to have to move)

Hello everyone! So I just recently got accepted to DCS for Fall 2026 intake. I was shocked because it was way too late for an acceptance email and I literally forgot about it. LOL! Nevertheless, I am so grateful and excited! However, I'm pregnant and my due date is closer to the start of the semester. Now, my question is should I confirm the program and ask for accommodations/deferrals or decline it? I really wanted this program so bad but I don't know if my body can handle the postpartum stress I will be having. To those who have undergone DCS, is it that physically demanding during the 1st few weeks of class? I wanted to know more about it. Deeply appreciated to anyone who can reply. Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone,

I’m currently in Interactive Media Design (IMD) at Algonquin College and I’m planning to apply to Computer Science at Carleton University after I graduate.

I’m aiming to become a full-stack developer, and I’m trying to figure out how realistic this path is and what to expect.

I had a few questions for anyone who’s done something similar:

  • Has anyone gone from IMD (or a similar program) into Carleton CS?
  • Were you admitted directly into first year, or did you get any transfer credits?
  • How long did it take you to complete the degree after getting in?
  • What GPA did you have when applying?
  • Did you take any extra math or programming courses to improve your chances?

Also, if you didn’t get in on your first try, what did you do to strengthen your application?

Any advice or experiences would really help, I’m trying to plan this out properly before I graduate.

Thanks!
