I feel like I have a pathological need to stay humble. Can you relate? How did you let go?

I remember bragging to my friend about my English (not my first language) in 2nd grade, and my dad telling me not to brag. Since then I've designed my psyche with that in mind. Can anyone relate? Do you have any advice?
