PRIMAVERA PIZZA FROM WRECKTANGLE IN MINNEAPOLIS - from their secret menu!

This is our favorite pizza spot of all time, we’re wedding photographers and have traveled all over for work and had incredible pizza doing so, and maybe it’s the community bias BUT Wrecktangle in Minneapolis is just our favoriteeee! Today we got their insane crouching tiger secret menu pizza rn, it’s sweet pea sauce/cheese/tortellini/grape tomatoes/smoked zucchini/pickled onion/lemon wedge! Also added a photo at the end of one of their non secret menu item pizzas we recently had which was their Splinter (pepperoni, balsamic cherry tomato, burrata, Thai basil pesto, their house cheese blend)

List of LGBTQ Inclusive & Affirming Wedding Vendors in Minnesota - Compiled By Wife & Wife Queer Wedding Photographers Storyteller Co

Hello! Quick intro, We’re Kayla & Zoey Love of Storyteller Co - a wife and wife wedding photography & video duo in Minneapolis specializing in candid, documentary style captures on film and digital (we use a combination of mediums including 35mm, medium format, Polaroid, super 8, some 16mm -on a completely manual 1920’s magazine camera we hand roll the film for!!- and digital photo/video).

We wanted to share this Google Doc we’ve compiled beginning a little over a year ago of Queer inclusive and affirming vendors - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CKWLkeuUTygtdLtCMU3Ppd9M4YVX5BMarSIfc\_v\_SEM/edit?usp=sharing

It’s wildly important to us that Queer couples have a clear sense of which vendors are absolutely for certain affirming and valuing of your love - and are able to do so BEFORE having to pour hourssss into looking over websites and inquiries and potentially expose yourself to unsafe vendors in the process. As a married couple ourselves and a Queer wedding photo and video duo of a decade we’ve had the unfortunate displeasure of seeing how many vendors actually use inclusive language as a marketing concept and not at all a lived reality, and it’s actually devastating to have vendors who do not see, value, or celebrate you for exactly who you are but instead as a marketing opportunity. OR are entirely unaccepting of Queer couples at all. So this list was very intentionally compiled to avoid that, if vendors haven’t worked explicitly with REAL Queer couples for their REAL weddings (not styled shoots to try and attract LGBT couples with no actual. Lived experience or understanding of our unique needs), they’re not on this list - because inclusivity is a living, breathing, ever-changing thing that requires showing up in real life and not just nice words. This list is locked currently, because again vetted, but dm if you’re interested in being added and have actual experience and can actively easily show the ways in which you are a truly LGBTQ affirming and inclusive vendor (note most vendors are midwest/MN based but there’s vendors from all over the world in this list!)

If you haven’t recently been to Alex and Renee’s memorials, they’ve been so beautifully updated and maintained by the community. Bring flowers, bring love, remember them and continue to demand justice for their murders ♥️

Images are recent from Alex’s memorial.

Also support the restaurants & shops of Eat Street & beyond - especially all the incredible immigrant owned restaurants in our great cities!!

Dine Out For Life MN is an annual fundraiser where participating restaurants across the state donate a portion of their proceeds to the Aliveness Project. Today, April 30, 2026, simply dining out helps provide vital food shelf access, hot meals, and stigma-free medical care for Minnesotans living with or at risk of HIV. It’s a meaningful and community-driven way to support health, safety, access, and food security for our Queer neighbors by doing something we all love to do - EAT OUT!

We started our day with a massive lunch at Christos Greek Restaurant, stopped by Company Bar, & closed out the day with takeout from Pagoda in Roseville while we watch the game!! Really good day, we’re also really really full 🍽️ Grateful for an incredible community filled with the very best people, care, and FOOD around ♥️💘

Planned to just do Saturday dumpling co for lunch yesterday and brought my camera along for the ride, but somehow just kept meandering and hopping on busses and found ourselves in the middle of St. Paul at like 9:30 pm before we were like “maybe we should go home now?”

- for context Ive been getting into photo as a hobby again, my wife and I are wedding/event photographers for a living, but I’m just so certain the best inspo comes from just getting out and playing a game of iSpy with our cameras and zero expectations or pressure! I did this earlier in the week walking around Loring Park/Nicollet Mall and shared it in r/Minneapolis and they seemed to really like browsing the snapshots! So I figured I’d share our images from roaming across basically the whole of the cities yesterday here, enjoy :)

Been getting back into photo taking as a hobby, because as much as it’s my life’s work, it’s also my favorite activity! Took a walk around the neighborhood and then some with the oldest digital body in my collection and a trusty 50mm :) Loring Park - Nicollet Mall & some blocks around 📸

Fast Foto is a film lab in Bloomington Minnesota that’s been developing film, printing, doing passport photos etc for 30 + years - we’re film wedding photographers and over the past decade have used film labs all over the country, including some seriously stellar ones in NYC and LA that are top of the list for best film labs in the world - and none have been better than Fast Foto. I feel unbelievably lucky we live so close to them! I’ve literally never gotten my scans in longer than 24 hours, and I usually get them within 5 hours of dropping off my film - no extra charge that’s just how fast they are. Their scans are insanely good, their staff is incredibly knowledgeable and kind, and I just think they deserve all the praise in the world! This is fully not paid in any way, I literally actually pay them hundreds a month in developing for our work lol - but they deserve every single dollar and every ounce of praise. Bring your film there, get your passport photos taken there, get your prints done there - they’re TOPS.

Including a handful of recent scans from them for reference as well!

We are Kayla and Zoey of Storyteller Co - a Minneapolis wedding and elopement photography and video duo - Lately, our inbox has been filled with couples planning city hall elopements, restaurant weddings, and even the old school cake and punch park or backyard wedding receptions!! It is very clear that moving away from the massive wedding production is becoming one of the most common and personalized ways to get married in the upcoming seasons. We’ve been having an incredible time capturing these celebrations and the increasing shift toward intentionality and smaller guest lists has so much of the ethos and values behind exactly why we document weddings and what we are drawn to about the process of it!!

Who this style of wedding experience is for:

Elopements and intimate weddings at city hall or a local restaurant are absolutely for the couples who prioritize lived-in, true to you wedding memories that focus on the unfolding moments and connection, over posing or massive guest lists etc. There’s absolutely not a wrong way to do your wedding, but this kind of nuptial celebration is specifically for people who value presence as a TOP desire in their wedding plans, and want to spend their day living in their memories rather than posing for them or greeting hundreds of guests. For our own wedding in 2018 we got married at a brewery (that had never hosted any kind of private event before actually!), my hair was purple, we did a Costco cake and Kwik trip donuts, and prioritized a lot of our budget towards things like our photographer and music and florals (we hired a well known touring music photographer and the same for our DJ), we also did a instax photo guest wall and disposables - and for the time especially people thought we were the epitome of odd when we were planning it, but day of it all really came together and everyone made the best memories! When we’ve been capturing this recent influx of more personalized intimate ceremonies and reception celebrations - often times split months or even years apart! - it’s felt so much like that, so intentional and so true to each couple and their people. It’s so fun.

Intentional Twin Cities spaces for elopements and intimate weddings:

If you are looking for a space that allows for a lived-in energy, these are some of our favorite spots in Minneapolis and St. Paul. I will be linking our full guides on how to get married at these locations in the comments.

Did anyone attend cake picnic this past fall? For anyone who is unfamiliar it’s a large community event traveling cities where attendees buy tickets and have to make a cake for entry (no cake no entry is their thing!), all the cakes are lined up on the tables and then attendees are called up in groups to fill their pizza box with as much cake as they can fit! Vibes are top tier, truly a blast! Y’all are incredibly creative and talented bakers, couldn’t believe how many incredible cakes there were — if you went I’d love to see/hear about your cake!

I was the event photographer for the Minneapolis stop this past October and it was sooooo much fun - This event literally converted me to a cake lover so, a success I’d say!! Last I talked with team Cake Picnic fingers were crossed on making it an annual event, but the mpls stop was technically planned to be a one time event

ETA it was SO HOT OUTSIDE on this day, like I don’t remember exact temps but it was warmmmmm so that’s why some of the cakes and signage were literally melting LOL

ICYMI: The longtime homeowner and gardener passed last summer, and when the house was sold, many were unsure if the tulip house would ever return. (The bulbs were removed before the sale.)

New homeowner Patty, who bought the house late last year, told me “it would be crushing” if the neighborhood didn’t have tulips. She found out where Lisa obtained her flowers and bought over 5,000 bulbs, planting them with the help of neighbors right before the ground froze.

The south side of the house will bloom with multiple colors of tulips, while the east side has a mix of hardier flowers like hyacinths. Plus, surrounding neighbors planted tulips in their yards in memory of Lisa — by May, it will hopefully become a Tulip Street. 💕

Find it at the corner of 25th St and Humboldt Ave in Minneapolis. Please be respectful of the homeowner and neighbors!!!!!

We’re so pumped I’ve been wanting the Michelin guide to come here for so long - looks like Meet Minneapolis is funding it (we had always heard the city wasn’t going to pay for it) so they’ll only be visiting spots in Minneapolis proper - sorry St. Paul !!

Thoughts on who might get a star?

u/storytellercowedding — 1 month ago

Recently into tinned fish and I would love to know the local spots that sell the best :) lmk if you have favorites! Picture of a recent lunch w smoked oysters I hated the texture of :/

(ETA - Figured I’d mention that the pictured smoked oysters are the great value brand from Walmart and they have that weird cat food texture I do not like!! I prefer a more meaty texture!)

ETA 2: I shared this over with the nice folks in r/twincitiesfood and they had some great suggestions!

Step 1: The Process

Secure Your Minnesota Marriage License

  • Crucial Location Note: You do not get your marriage license at the courthouse. In St. Paul, the Vital Records office is now located in the Plato Building across the river
  • The Application: Start your application online via the Ramsey County Marriage License portal.
  • The Appointment: You must appear in person to verify IDs and sign the final documents at the Plato Building: 90 Plato Blvd W, Saint Paul, MN 55107.
  • The Cost: $115 (or $40 with 12 hours of premarital counseling).
  • The Timing: There is no waiting period in Minnesota, but the license expires after six months. We recommend picking this up at least a few days before your ceremony so you aren't rushing across the bridge on your wedding morning.

Step 2: Scheduling Your Officiant (The Judge)

Unlike some city halls that offer a "walk-in" style chapel, St. Paul requires you to coordinate directly with a judge from the Second Judicial District - find a list of judges actively performing marriage ceremonies at St Paul City Hall & Ramsey County Courthouse here.

  • Booking: You will need to contact the judge’s chambers directly to schedule your ceremony. The court maintains a list of judges who perform weddings. We recommend reaching out at least 4–6 weeks in advance, especially for Friday afternoon ceremonies.
  • The Fee: Judges typically charge a fee ranging from $150 to $300. This is paid directly to the judge and often covers the use of the space for your ceremony.
  • The Ceremony Location: While many ceremonies take place in the judge’s private chambers for a more intimate vibe, you can often request to hold your ceremony in the Memorial Hall in front of the onyx statue in the grand entrance - a stunning art-deco space. This is subject to the judge’s availability and the building's schedule.

Step 3: Witnesses and Logistics

  • The Witnesses: You are required to have two witnesses who are at least 16 years old. If you are planning a private "just us" elopement, we are always happy to act as your witnesses and sign our names to your history.
  • Security: This is a working government building and courthouse. You and your guests will pass through metal detectors upon entry. We recommend arriving 15–20 minutes before your scheduled time to ensure a relaxed transition.
  • Parking: Street parking is available along 4th Street and Kellogg Blvd, but for a stress-free morning, we suggest the Victory Ramp or the Lawson Ramp, both of which offer easy access to the courthouse.

Step 4: The Documentation

Because of the building’s unique lighting — rich dark marbles, deep wood tones, and dramatic shadows — this location demands a specific technical approach.

We prioritize a true-to-color methodology that honors the natural tones of the Art Deco era. Our goal is to capture the "lived-in" memories: the echo of your footsteps in the marble halls, the nervous laughter in the vintage brass elevators, and the quiet exhale when the paperwork is finally signed.

We often utilize a hybrid of high-end digital frames for clarity and 35mm film to capture the nostalgic, archival texture that this building practically begs for.

Step 5: The St. Paul Neighborhood Portrait Session

One of the best parts of a St. Paul elopement is the proximity to some of the city's most beautiful textures. After the ceremony, we typically wander for 30–45 minutes to capture your first moments as spouses:

  • Rice Park: A classic European-style square just a block away.
  • The Avalon (formerly James J. Hill Library): For an editorial, academic feel - closed to the public, request time for photos inside the venue by inquiring and scheduling with the Avalon team here.
  • Saint Paul Public Library: Housed next door to the Avalon, the SPPL is peak Italian Renaissance architecture meets quiet, marble-clad elegance for a scholarly and timeless editorial backdrop.
  • Landmark Center: For grand exterior architecture that rivals any European city.

Step 6: An Intimate Reception Celebration

A courthouse ceremony is often the prologue to a beautiful afternoon in the city. St. Paul offers several pockets of "unfussy luxury" perfect for a first drink as spouses, an intimate dinner reception, or an intimate park celebration if the weather allows:

  • W.A. Frost & Company: Located in the historic Cathedral Hill neighborhood W.A. Frost is among the best of the very best when it comes to a romantic St. Paul aesthetic. Beyond its famous multi-level stone courtyard — widely considered the most beautiful patio in the Twin Cities — the interior offers a series of private enclaves like the Fireside Room. These "hidden" spaces allow for a quiet, long-table dinner or a cake-and-punch reception away from the main dining bustle, all set against a backdrop of heavy stone and flickering fireplaces.
  • Moscow on the Hill: For a mood that feels like a tucked-away European corner, Moscow on the Hill is unrivaled. The experience is anchored by their in-house accordionist, whose live, nostalgic soundtrack provides a perfect "lived-in" layer for documentary video and audio capture. Their year-round patio offers a romantic, tree-lined sanctuary for a celebratory vodka flight, providing an unpretentious yet sophisticated transition from the Art Deco formality of the courthouse.
  • The St. Paul Hotel Lobby Bar: This is a timeless, dark-wood sanctuary that feels like a direct extension of the city’s history. It is the ideal spot for a classic, high-end cocktail in a space that values quiet over crowd. However, a technical note for your documentation: the staff here can be strict regarding flash photography. Because the space is naturally quite dark, we recommend checking in advance if they will allow the additional lighting or professional flash setup required to properly capture your session or dinner celebration.
  • Emerald Lounge: A West 7th gem that balances moody intimacy with a sophisticated cocktail program. With its deep emerald velvet booths and intentional lighting, it offers a more modern, "boutique" alternative to the historic grand hotels. It’s the perfect spot for a couple looking for a stylish, neighborhood-centric toast that feels tucked away from the downtown core.
  • MetroNOME Brewery: If your version of a celebratory drink is a local craft pour, this Lowertown spot offers a bright, industrial-chic atmosphere for a casual "cake and punch" style gathering. Beyond the high ceilings and clean lines, the venue is deeply rooted in the St. Paul music scene; their basement event space, Fingal’s Cave, is known for its incredible acoustics and live jazz vibe. It’s an ideal "hidden gem" for couples who want their reception to feel like an exclusive Lowertown house party, though guests should be prepared for the typical Lowertown parking shuffle — we recommend suggesting the nearby Cray Plaza ramp.
  • Irvine Park: Often called the "Hidden Jewel" of St. Paul, this park is centered around an ornate Victorian fountain and a historic gazebo. It offers a European-square feel that is unrivaled in the city, though a technical note for video: the fountain is powerful and creates significant ambient noise, so plan your audio capture accordingly.
  • Harriet Island Pavilion: The Wigington Pavilion is a massive stone structure with high wooden beams and a "blank canvas" interior. It’s favored for its indoor-outdoor flow, allowing guests to wander along the Mississippi River with the St. Paul skyline as a backdrop. A major win for this space is the lack of restrictive catering contracts, giving you the freedom to bring in any local favorites for a truly customized reception.
  • Loring Park (near Downtown Minneapolis, worth the trek!): For an urban garden mood, Loring Park offers a lush escape just steps from the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. It’s a high-energy, sophisticated spot that pairs perfectly with a reception at Café Lurcat, which sits right on the park's edge and is the gold standard for "unfussy luxury" dining with park views. The incredible Gai Noi Restaurant can be found right across the street, offering authentic Lao dishes and a lush greenery filled rooftop for private events and group dining options.

How to Get Married at Minneapolis City Hall: Updated for 2026 - see full updated info here

1. Apply for a Marriage License

First, you’ll need to apply for your license through Hennepin County.

- The Process: You can start your application online to save time, but you must appear in person to finalize it

- The Cost: For 2026, the standard fee is $125. However, if you complete 12 hours of premarital education, the fee is reduced to $50

The Validity: Your license is valid for six months and can be used anywhere in the state of Minnesota

2. Book Your Ceremony at City Hall

To reserve your space in the historic Rotunda, you’ll need to visit the Municipal Building Commission (MBC) weddings and ceremonies page on their official website.

Pro Tip: Because of its popularity for "micro-weddings" and elopements, we recommend checking availability at least 4–6 months in advance.

3. Choose Your Date + Time

The City Hall Rotunda is a working public space, but they offer dedicated windows for weddings. Currently, the space is available for ceremonies Wednesday through Sunday.

- Mid-week weddings offer a quieter, more intimate feel

- Weekend ceremonies allow for that grand, classic wedding day energy

5. Choose Your Date + Time

The beauty of Minneapolis City Hall is that it doesn’t need much extra to shine. Between the five-story fireplace and the colossal "Father of Waters" statue, the architecture does the heavy lifting.

- Decor: A few personal floral touches or simple handheld arrangements are really all you need.

The Visuals: Photo ops and cinematic motion are truly magical in that central rotunda! From the "stained glass windows" (which are actually lit by artificial bulbs so they shine regardless of the time of day your ceremony will be held) to the defending marble staircases and nostalgic elevators - this space is a romantic dream for images!

Important Note: Ceremonies held in the City Hall Rotunda do not include an officiant. You will need to arrange for an ordained professional, a certified friend, or a family member to perform the ceremony.

If you prefer to be married by a judge at the District Court, see the list of Hennepin County Judges currently available to perform wedding ceremonies here. Call 612-322-6709 or visit the Marriage Ceremonies page on the Hennepin County website for more information - a note that many judges will be more than happy to perform your ceremony in the rotunda if it is available.

A historic mention as well that the Minneapolis City Hall is where the first day of legal same-sex wedding ceremonies in Minneapolis occurred, just after midnight on August 1, 2013, primarily in the rotunda and city council chambers of Minneapolis City Hall. Mayor R.T. Rybak officiated a marathon of 46 weddings, with the first couple being Margaret Miles and Cathy ten Broeke, following the law’s official taking-effect.

The After-Party: Where to Toast & Dine

Minneapolis City Hall is strictly ceremony-only, so once you’ve tied the knot, you’ll want to head somewhere else to celebrate. Fortunately, downtown and the nearby riverfront are full of excellent restaurants perfect for a post-wedding gathering.

Here are a few of our top spots for an after-elopement dinner celebration:
