Issue Resolved: It seems FancyZones and RustDesk are incompatible. Adding "rustdesk.exe" to fancy zones excludes makes a useful RustDesk console window.

I just got into Rustdesk a couple months ago. On my main machine (Win 10, with extended support), whenever I launch rustdesk from Start menu, or Desktop icon, I get the useless all white window with no controls. Only way to close it is by the "X" on the taskbar icon. Luckily, I had created desktop icons for two of my other machines, which does open a connection to them, and THEN, I can click the "+" button to open the settings menus. What is going on here?

First Security Cam: Is S340 a good choice for a business location?

I want to put an outdoor camera on a business location which has WiFi and Internet. I'm mostly interested in capturing after-hours events like rando's just hanging out in the parking area, leaving trash, etc.

The S340 ticks a lot of boxes: No monthly fee, solar, weatherproof, internal storage, tracking, light, etc. Questions remain though:

  • Is it possible to access it remotely (from home, or while otherwise away from the business locations's WiFi)?
  • Is it possible to access it with a web-browser or PC without having to use a mobile app?

Is there a better product which covers all the things I've mentioned?

ETA for added context: Business space is last suite in a building, and I'd want to mount it at the corner for 270 degree coverage of our front door and side exit door. There is a residence with screening hedges beyond the drive on the side of the building. I would want to disable the "Police lights" and siren feature, but the flood light is good to let the randos know "we're watching", but I don't want it running for a long time, or constantly flashing on and off to annoy the neighbors.

[3lb rotary tumbler] "Mortar" forming on the bottom of the barrel about half the time, while 4.5lb doesn't.

Background: I've been accustomed to a Lortone 4.5lb single barrel for many MANY years, with good results. I recently got an HP Lapidary double barrel 3lb unit (lots of modern features like adjustable RPM, direct-drive brushless motor, etc). All 3 barrels are about same "depth" but obviously the 3lb barrels are smaller in diameter than the 4.5lb one. Lortone is fixed RPM. The HPLap barrels have "speedbumbs" along the inside walls, while the Lortone barrel is more like a series of flats, like a giant Snap-On socket.

Problem: Running stages 1 and 2 on the HPLap 3lb barrels, I'm finding I often get a VERY THICK paste, almost mortar, forming at the bottoms of the barrels, with the ceramic pellets embedded. Its what I'd imagine would happen if I took them off the machine and let them sit upright for a few days. I have to scrape it out with a sharp rock or butter knife. I've never had this happen in the wider 4.5lb Lortone.

I've tried with and without a Tbsp of powdered detergent and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I do pretty much what I have always done:

  • fill with rocks 2/3rd, not to exceed the total weight of the barrel (3lb barrels weigh 1lb dry, 4.5lb barrels weigh 1.5lb dry)
  • sprinkle in some ceramic media if I think it needs it to fill in some gaps,
  • add 1 Tbsp of grit per pound of "payload" (3 in the 4.5lb barrel, 2 in the 3lb barrels),
  • fill with water till covered.
  • Put on the lid, shake the ever-lovin' crap out of the sealed barrel in multiple directions
  • Set them on the machine till the next weekend.

I painted a registration stripe on the side of each 3lb barrel lid, and adjusted the HPLap to about match the Lortone (as best I could before suffering vertigo 😆 ). I guess about 32-36rpm. The dial reads "1.0", but I bumped to to "1.50" after taking the video above.

What might I be doing wrong in the 3lb barrels? Too much/little total load? Too much/little ceramic media? Not enough water? RPM too low? What would you suggest for next thing to try next weekend?

Is it OK to run Kenmore Dishwasher 26314602321 without PN: 42312756 (food particle trapper?)

This dishwasher has what appears to be a vanity part on the lower rack that traps food particles between it and the inside of the door. Here's a pic of it after I removed it and propped it lightly back on the rack for photographic purposes.

Based on parts diagrams, it is element 307, which purports to be a "basket handle":

Is there some other hidden, critical, function is serves that its absence will cause problems?

Why dump slurry in Stage 1, vs just adding fresh grit?

I've been wondering something for a while: After a week or so, grit loses strength (as we know). Is there any benefit to dumping all the slurry and rinsing rocks and barrel if you can tell by inspecting a few that it needs more time on the same grit? Past couple weeks I've just pulled out out a handful of rocks to inspect, and added fresh grit. Previous batches I'd dump it all, and start with fresh water, rinsed rocks, and added fresh grit to repeat the stage. Is one better than the other? Thoughts?

Kenmore Dishwasher: useless part that just traps food particles. What is it? Do I need it?

I got so tired of opening my dishwasher after a cycle and finding food particles stuck between the inside of the door, and this goofy part. So I removed it (with some difficulty). What purpose does it serve and does it NEED to be there?

Unit is Kenmore 26314602321 and the part is depicted as item #307 on the diagram. Official part number is #42312756

(I posted images, but they are not showing up)

TAPO android app: Camera stream stops after 5 minutes. Didn't do this a week ago.

I have a tapo c111 camera for a few years now, and I put in my business location a couple months ago, so I can view activity from home.

Until a week or so ago, I could watch a live stream for as long as my phone had charge. Now, it pops up after 5 minutes saying that I haven't interacted with it for 5 minutes and wants me to "Continue" or "Cancel". The "more info" just displays a blank screen.

Has anybody else noticed this? What is the "solution"? In fact, I ordered a second one to view another room at the business location, which arrived Monday. I haven't set it up yet. I'm regretting buying the second camera, and may return it.

"Ivory", "Ivory Snow", Borax and state of modern tumbling

After a 20-year hiatus on rock tumbling (trusty Lortone), I'm getting back into it. Among some of my old supplies was "Ivory Snow" detergent. Advice then was to add a Tbs of it with every stage. I'm reading that nowadays we "burnish" with shavings of Ivory soap, or borax after the final stage.

This stuff looks like modern Borax. I don't remember now whether I paid 52cents, or $5.19 back in 2005. Does it have any place in rock tumbling these days?

And are "shavings of Ivory soap" actually the result of whittling on a bar of Ivory?

Tree Cut

We went hiking in a local forest this past weekend.
We saw several trees like the one pictured. They have what appear to be a cut around the diameter of the trunk, but not through it. We couldn’t get a close look, but the cuts did not appear to be deep.

Whatvis the purpose of these cuts?

[Rural east Texas acreage] Any guesses why THIS post oak gave up the ghost?

This native Post Oak didn't come back this year. Is this so-called "oak blight"? If it matters, I'm on the margin of the "Post Oak Savannah" and "Piney Woods" regions.

TBH, I'm not terribly concerned (unless you say I need to be), as she has hundreds or thousands of ancestors, siblings, and offspring on my property. Her "tree-cousins" in the area include native maple, hickory, river birch, and elms. I'll decide later whether to turn her into firewood, or leave as a wildlife snag (probably the latter, as no trails or structures are in danger from her falling).

Toro 20383 Super Recycler blade disengage stopped working. Design revealed. Mystery Solved: "Bushing" and "Bolt-Shoulder" binding.

Today I discovered unexpected parts, solved a mystery, and got back in service.

Last weekend my 20383 with the blade brake mechanism would not stop the blade when the bale was released. So I started tearing into it. I figured something was binding the brake/pulley mechanism. In the process, the blade brake cable plastic ferule fitting snapped, so I ordered a replacement cable (and new drive belt and blade bearings). Parts arrived. When reassembling, I noticed that the bolt holding the clutch assembly to the deck was turning a bit, but not easily, which didn't seem right; it wouldn't spin out with an air wrench either. Digging deeper, I removed the Anchor Plate and found out there is a nylon bushing (PN: 107-0797) which holds that bolt (PN: 107-0759). The whole bolt pivots in the bushing, not the plate on the bolt. After removing that bolt, I discovered it was quite pitted and crusty. I sanded it smooth & cleaned a lot of crud out of the bushing. I put everything back together and fired it up. The blade engage/brake action was as smooth as new and fully functional!

Maybe had I studied these drawings more closely ahead of time, I would have focused on that bushing/bolt thing sooner.

I've been using a trusty Lortone 3A off and on for probably 20 years. Now that I have a double-barrel rotary tumbler on the way, I'm tripling my capacity and I'm content to move to a 5-stage process. But, of course I want to stay on budget. Buying 4-stage "kits" of 1 or 2 lb bottles off Amazon just isn't going to hack it any more. That said I have the menu below available to me (with $$ signs to indicate relative cost). Would you recommend I tweak this proposed list of stages: 60/90, 150, 320, 800, 12500 (indicated by "*")?

  • SC #60/90 $
  • SC #120 $
  • SC #150 $ *
  • SC #220 $
  • SC #320 $ *
  • SC #600 $$
  • SC #800 $$ *
  • AO 2500 $$
  • AO 12500 $$ *
  • AO 20000 $$$$

LSS: circuit breaker in out-building tripped, probably a week ago during thunderstorms. Was going to wrap up stage 3 today and move to stage 4, when I found my trusty Lortone 3A stopped. I opened up the barrel for a look and one side had thick clay sludge stuck to it. I did my best to mash it up with my fingers and put it back on the Lortone after resetting the breaker. Should I let it go another week or is this a loss that I need to restart stage 3? I figure there isn't any harm letting it roll.

Also placed an order for a Highland Park RT3L 2-3lb-110 this morning, so I can triple my barrel capacity! The Lortone is probably 20 years old, but sat in my garage for a decade till I drug it out late last year, and put a brand new belt on it.

I've started messing with RustDesk (no self hosted relay or whatever, just point to point).

When I connect to another machine on my wifi LAN, it has the green shield in the tab. When I connect to the same device via it's tailscale IP, the shield is red. Best I can tell this means unencrypted. But why is that? What about tailscale breaks encryption, or am I totally misunderstanding something?
