AITAH: I asked GF to leave my house late at night, she broke up with me
Context: We had a long weekend at a big festival in NOLA. She was spending the weekend with me with her daughter (2) and her friend. All staying at my house. We had gotten into an argument on the Friday evening late at night, because of which I did not sleep at all, while she slept in the front room.
The next day we hashed things out and I told her that I normally could not really sleep if she went to bed angry. Fast forward to the Sunday. I was VERY low on sleep and told her about 100 times that day how I desperately needed a full nights sleep that night.
Yada yada yada - she ends up getting very tipsy (I’m totally sober btw), and after I signaled to her earlier In the evening that I didn’t really want her to spend the night (because I was so tired), she ended up kind of weaseling her way into staying over. Whatever, I was fine with it.
The child fell asleep around 8, and fast forward to later that night it’s about 11:30 pm or midnight, she’s drunk and we get into another argument.
Shes angry, Biligerent and hostile and says were not working this out tonight “I’m going to sleep in the front room”. I then tell her “I need us to be simpatico or there’s no way I’m sleeping.”
She said it’s my fault that I can’t sleep and I then tell her that’s unacceptable and that she, her friend, and the kid need to leave. She says “I’m breaking up with you if we have to leave”
I held my ground. I knew her friend was sober and could drive home.
It was not ideal and it was a last resort. But she was being a drunken asshole and I felt like my boundaries were getting stomped on and Im fully entitled to a peaceful nights sleep in my own home.
AITAH for asking them to leave at night? She’s standing on that hill still and thinks it was grounds for break up and that I “kicked her out”.
I was really trying to maintain my composure throughout the situation and while I did feel myself losing my cool, I do believe I maintained it.
