Hey dear members,

I'm a final year ece student, avg in studies (performance based).... Willing to start my career in vlsi!

I have a decent gate score, and will be joining a mid tier nit for mtech in vlsi design.

I want to grab the internship within 6 months from now (on campus)

I have a basic understanding of CMOS and digital electronics. Will brush it up now.

How shall I target it?

What shall be the roadmap?

I'm not so good at coding though but would love to learn.

Pls give me a complete structured plan to follow and is this achievable in 6 months??

With decent projects, and knowledge?

(Personally I would love to go with the physical design side, but if the prerequisites are to cover the RTL side then I'm also ready for that)

I currently have a hp pavilion gaming laptop with 8gb ram 512 SSD.

But earlier when I installed cst studio suite to make some simulation projects. The laptop was unable to process it, and kept getting crashed with a warning sign "90% of the Ram used".

Also the heating issue, my SSD area gets so hot that my pc gets shut down after 10 to 15 mins of usage.

I thought about buying a mac Book but someone said that we can't run virtual machines or many software required for vlsi on a mac.

So experienced individuals here pls suggest what to do.....

I'm getting industrial automation at nitT and can get rf and microwave systems in the special rounds at nit Rourkela....

I want to target high package placements.... Will this branch and college be able to provide me that?

Please guide.

Actually for my score I'm getting industrial automation at nitT and control and automation at nitW....

My will and skill set belong to physical chip design etc! So I just wanted an option to get inside the companies of ece.. like texas instruments, qualquam etc!

Although I also loved the curriculum of Industrial automation (an instrumentation and control engineering branch at nit Trichy)

So the context is, I'm an ece undergraduate from a tier 3 college, I qualified gate in instrumentation paper.... In which I'm getting enough score that I could get nit Trichy process control and instrumentation branch.

Now the issue is.... I'm very new to this field. I don't know what type of job it offers, like will it be a white collar job or fixing bugs and working like a technician in the factories.

I'm really worried about the pay in India, I've heard that the salary growth is very slow, and the initial package is also less.

I just wanted to know the nature of work that a DCS ENGINEER, APPLICATION ENGINEERING, CONTROL SYSTEM ENGINEER does.

Can one please help me out. Shall I go ahead with this.

Overall I found the work and the subjects to be very interesting and of my interest... Like I'm not a person with a personality of working hours in front of a screen and building, writing codes etc.... I love to work in the field... But I don't want to land up into a career which is full of labour work.... To be precise I want a white collar job.

Will this field be able to provide me that?
