Which of these is the better deal or would you prefer? Both are Hulk #180s, White Pages CGC 9.0. The left sold for $1148?, the right for $1342?
Cert on the left: 3715094002. Cert on the right: 4345266002. (EDIT) To clarify: The books differ. Different visual presentation, different flaws. Basically, if one is aesthetically or otherwise a nicer book, does that justify the $200 price difference? Just trying to get a sense of everyone opinion on something like this.
[I posted this in r/cinema, but it may be that that was not the appropriate place, so I am hoping this is.]
It really is a question, not a statement. I am very curious about the context of this quote, which I've known for years (e.g., it's in the screening room in Godard's Contempt), but had never thought deeply about. It is usually straightforwardly interpreted as meaning that Lumiere really thought his machine had a limited future and yet, paradoxically, 1) he refused to sell it to Melies (in 1895?!), and 2) the Lumiere brothers went on to produce (with their network of cameramen) 1400 - 2000 "views" (shorts) and, contrary to popular belief, they were not strictly pure documentaries, even from the start (e.g., 1895's L'Arroseur arrose, which is a straight up "scripted" and "acted" comedy short).
