Would a detergent with the full set of enzymes (barring DNAse) properly clean cat pee, or is it worth buying a specific pet enzyme product?

Using Persil/Omo Ultimate, 40° long wash cycle with a extra rinse on some towels my poor cat peed on (she's having some health problems right now). I've washed them once this way and they seem clean to me, no pee smell at all, but I know if cats catch any smell they'll continue to toilet in the same spot. Is what I'm doing enough, or would a pet enzyme cleaner be worth spending extra on?

In NZ by the way so don't bother recommending specific brands if you're in the US.

Miele Detergents - Worldwide Formula?

kia ora all, another question towards the AUS/NZ lipase list.

does anyone happen to know if Miele's detergent formulas are the same worldwide? i've found their ingredients reports for the US market, but can't confirm by contacting if they're the same here until Monday, so if anyone knows more this will speed up my process a bit.

if anyone happens to have Miele products at home that say anything relevant on the packaging or otherwise have more info, that'd be super helpful! thanks in advance, stay fresh 😎

citric acid is:

- smell-free

- much cheaper (buy a large bag of powder off the internet, mix with water)

- easier to choose your own concentration

- more effective, because it's more acidic

- useful in liquid and powder form (you can use straight powder in washing machine, dishwasher, kettle etc for descaling, or make a solution to clean anything that needs removal of soap scum, hard water buildup, or limescale)

anything that vinegar can do, citric acid can do better. except salad dressing, probably (though it is food safe! it's most of what sour sugar is made from).

this has been a PSA from citric acid gang 👍

as the title says, basically - this pertains to a laundry product company based in Aus that sells their products in Aus and NZ.

I asked for a full ingredient list or SDS, and got this response - just wanted to check this is the case.

>

to be clear i just want a list, not specific ratios or anything - same stuff as you get on food. i can't make a Pams loaf of white bread given the ingredients on the back of the pack, so seems... interesting that this doesn't apply to household and cleaning products.

Advice much appreciated. Cheers!

>In terms of SDS sheets and full ingredient lists, we provide an SDS document for each product for safety purposes, but they do not contain an ingredient list with the level of detail you’re looking for. The ingredient information we publish on our website is the closest thing we share publicly, as going further into specifics (especially around enzyme systems) would effectively give away much of our formulation IP which is something we hold very dear to us.

typo in title, my apologies, you know what i meant. this is what i get for typing this post up on my phone instead of my laptop.

i'd never heard of The Dirt Company before I started putting together the NZ/AUS Lipase List, but when i looked them up I was a fan! big fan of the whole recycling scheme and product design, and their products looked pretty good too.

just a small hitch - we don't get to know what enzymes they use! their website simply lists "enzymes", so i emailed to get more detail. unfortunately, this is classified information! disheartening from a company that prides itself on transparency, as made clear in their FAQ Page:

>"Fun fact! Cleaning product suppliers in Australia are not obligated by law to share their full ingredient list with customers. Whatever, law. Here's what you should know about our ingredients."

They then go into detail about enzymes as an ingredient class and specify that the enzyme blend in their Delicate Wash is suitable for wool and silk, but still don't specify anything.

this kinda sucks, Dirt Company. guess they don't know how many laundry nerds would be more likely to purchase if we could get some confirmation!

after attempting to remove what I assumed were grease stains on the front of a hoodie, i've come to the conclusion that they are, in fact, the dastardly polyquat spots. right at waist height where water sometimes splashes while i'm washing my hands. the likely culprit? my hand soap.

time to look for something polyquat-free (i've learned antibacterial hand soap is less than ideal for everyday use anyway), and retire that hoodie to messy cooking/cleaning/gardening duties. RIP :(

Ever wondered what's in your laundry products? Here you go!

It's VERY incomplete, but people were asking for it - I've got most of the big brands, and a couple small ones. It also currently only has laundry detergents, not boosters/soakers/sprays/etc: those will get their own sheet in due time.

I have not used every product on the list, nor do I make any claims about their overall efficacy (except Persil Ultimate, that's my homie). These are just some facts about what's in them. Cheers!

EDIT: oh lord i didn't think anyone would give a shit about my boring laundry posts outside of r/laundry, I'll put the list here this weekend so save this post or whatever if you wanna see it and I'll try and get to all the questions 😭

I come as a kiwi representative from r/laundry, where people with too much time and varying levels of autism on their hands help themselves and others optimise their laundry routine and get their clothes clean. I'm making a Lipase List for New Zealand and Australia - basically, a big old spreadsheet that tells you what enzymes and other stuff is in your detergent (and therefore, how effective it's likely to be) and helps you make decisions about what's best for you.

So far, I've covered Persil, Surf, Ecostore, and Earthwise (working on Fab, but I can't get a full ingredients list or SDS to save my life!). Figured I might as well ask here so I know what to prioritise next - what laundry products are we rocking? Powders or liquids? Big brands or locally made? Bonus points if you tell me about a laundry product you tried and HATED so i can go find out if it's really that bad.

If you want the TL;DR on what the best detergent on the list is so far, it's Persil Ultimate or Ecostore Ultra Power Concentrate. I've not published it yet because I want it to be a bit more complete first - thanks for the help - but questions or comments about the lipase list are gladly accepted.

Cheers all!
