Good evening ladies and gentlemen of the crisp community.

Before I proceed a background and a confession. I’m guilty of pontificating. My tastebuds have been delightfully enjoying crisps for decades, that being said I always had this self fulfilling prophecy that I’d only eat brands. Long did I shun the Aldi/lidl home brands, my brain couldn’t process the desire to have a copy of a great. Then yesterday like when love arrives again, I dropped my guard and left my local Aldi with the combo mix.

Combo mix is 6 packets for £1.35, the value is there, clearly, but what worried me was the taste. So I cracked open a bag and to my pleasure they’re divine. Fit for any plate of picky bits, any Cotswold banquet or any hot summer barbecue preliminaries.

The spice is neither overwhelming nor underwhelming, it’s spot on for my crisp spice preference. The shapes are so different giving each crisp a unique texture and for 96kcal a bag they certainly are very full to the brim.

Sometimes we blindly navigate the world, with our head down, hands in our pocket thinking we have the world figured out. I yesterday learnt not to underestimate the greater crisp world and that there’s gems deep in the earth I’ve yet to discover.

8.4/10 marvellous, wonderful. Aldi crisp manufacturing department give yourselves a worthwhile pat on the back, it’s well deserved.
