Tonsil stone for the first time - is this normal?

Hi all,

I've been suffering from a chronic sore throat (pain/irritation in oropharynx, no swollen tonsils, some cobblestoning on the back wall, and irritation around/behind uvula) and dry mouth ever since having mono in January 2025. Last night I found my first ever tonsil stone. My tonsils are so small it looks like I had them removed, so it was a surprise to find a moderately sized one. The stone was not visible by just shining a light into my throat. It was lodged pretty snug into a crypt and was only visible when I pulled back my tonsil. I was able to remove it myself, but the tonsil is very, very sore and there's a lot of redness. I'm guessing the lingering dry mouth maybe contributed to the development of this stone.

How long does an irritated tonsil take the heal after stone removal and is it possible for the tonsil stone to be the cause of my chronic sore throat?

Can impacted wisdom teeth cause a dry mouth and sore throat?

Hi, 25 years old and have not had my wisdom teeth removed yet.

I have two impacted wisdom teeth on my right side. The bottom one started partially erupting 2 years ago. The top one has not broken through the gums yet, and might be sideways. I started experiencing some pain/gum inflammation 2 years ago. 15.5 months ago I caught mono and ever since then I've had a lingering dry mouth and sore throat. No swollen tonsils, just pain on the back wall of my throat and behind/around my uvula. Some cobblestoning which has been healing over the last 15.5 months. I've tried H1/H2 blockers, 2 rounds of prednisone, pilocarpine, mouth taping, nasal strips, and many other things to try and alleviate this issue.

I want to figure out if what I have is a post viral issue or if my impacted wisdom teeth may be a contributing issue. Is it possible that impacted wisdom teeth can cause a chronic dry mouth and sore throat? I'm unable to see a dentist until July.

10mg Amitriptyline for post-viral syndrome

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has taken amitriptyline for post viral symptoms. I currently experience a chronic sore throat, dry mouth, swollen lymph nodes, and fatigue for 15 months since I was diagnosed with EBV in January 2025.

I'm hoping it will take care of my chronic sore throat pain. I've been on two short courses of prednisone and the sore throat persists. The pain is localized to the back wall of my throat and the area around/behind my uvula.

I'm a little bit concerned about a known side effect being dry mouth, which I already have. I've already been on pilocarpine for almost a year now to help with the dryness.

For those who have taken this medication for chronic sore throat pain or post viral syndrome, did it help?

Can a chronic irritated sore throat and dry mouth be a symptom of iron deficiency/low ferritin?

My ferritin is low (17) and I have been struggling with my throat symptoms since being diagnosed with mono over a year ago.

I've started taking an iron supplement (30mg of iron glycinate chelate) with 500mg vitamin C on an empty stomach, and then a multi-vitamin containing 18mg iron with breakfast.

Chronic sore throat

Is anyone else experiencing a chronic sore throat and dry mouth? I'm 15 months in and still have these symptoms. A year ago, the dryness used to be pretty severe 24/7, but now it's only the worst when I'm asleep.

I've tried a lot of things for my throat, including: 2 short rounds of prednisone, a saline nasal gel spray, flonase, H1 (benedryl, allegra, zyrtec) and H2 blockers (pepcid), tums, viscous lidocaine, gaviscon, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, nyquil, chlorhexidine, humidifier, cough drops and throat lozenges, biotene mouthwash and lozenges, staying hydrated (1.5-4L of fluids per day including electrolytes), restricted diet, elderberry, L-lysine, vitamin C, vitamin D, multi-vitamin, L-theanine, vitamin B complex, raw honeycomb, local honey, manuka honey, magnesium, pre and probiotics, mouth taping, anti-inflammatory diet, sleeping slightly elevated, breathe right nasal strips, baking soda gargles, pilocarpine. I've seen two ENTs and several other specialists

I found out I have an iron deficiency, so I've started an iron supplement in case this deficiency might be contributing to my throat irritation and dry mouth.

Maybe it's going to take more time but does anyone have any advice or tips on something else I can try?
