WIP on the Ancient Hound conversion
Currently in the “getting out of the mud” stage.

Currently in the “getting out of the mud” stage.
Conversion made out of Imperial Ancient in Terminator Armour kit+ few Chaos bits. My favorite type of conversions (imperial to chaos).
Sometimes when I get a random kit in hands my head immediately starts coming up with ideas that I sketch out (last pic for the sketch) and either forget or discard.
However this time it stuck and I decided to go for it. This Ancient will be painted in gore and signature colors of War Hounds (white armour and blue shoulderpads).
Hope you enjoy.

Hi all,
Ever since discovering Warhammer, I’ve been a fan of it’s grimdark settings and painting style. Hence why I chose World Eaters and Khorne. However I often find that painters focused on this style rely of stylized photography too much and I’m often left wondering if the model looks half as good in real life and normal lighting.
I’ve been painting models and exploring this style for nearly a year now and this Daemon Prince is so far my best painted and probably most grimdark model and I got fair bit of nice words over it, however all you could see by then were stylized photos that are not 100% representative of the model. So, I had an idea of making photos in various lighting conditions, exploring and exposing all facets of the paintjob.
Photos (aside from the first collage photo) follow this pattern:
-lit by soft light, candles with slight saturation and brightness adjustments in Photoshop
-lit by the same lamp I paint under, closest to what I see when painting with no touch ups
-raw photo in broad daylight with no touch ups
I realize it might not be the best paintjob out there and I hope this post doesn’t come across pretentious. Personally, I would love to see more photos of very grim and dark models in not so perfect conditions and best I can do is to start myself.
Hope you enjoy!

One of the first Daemon Princes birthed by 41st millenium.
Whenever he enters the battlefield he is considered a herald of Angron himself.
Cultists decorate him with as many skulls as they can and paint his face in the image of their Primarch.
Berzerkers and others sharing the burden of Butchers Nails find their thoughts are bit more clear and their pain is somewhat softened with a brother who achieved so much by their side.
Still, being on the opposite side to these forces, you could not tell…
I’ve absolutely loved painting this model. Daemon Prince might be my favorite model so far. Size and level of details is just perfect, I actually don’t think I want to paint models larger than this. The model is slightly converted/ kitbashed, I will link the conversion in the comments for those interested.
Admittedly these are not 100% representative photos as it was lit by candles and in very gentle light. In reality the color scheme is slightly colder and brighter. I will make another set of photos for comparison soon.
Hope you enjoy.
