Can an app focused on “how places feel” realistically survive today?

Current platforms already dominate:

  • photos
  • reels
  • ratings
  • maps
  • bookings

But they still don’t explain:

  • vibe
  • atmosphere
  • emotional experience
  • who a place is actually perfect for

I’m validating an idea around this gap.

Do you think this is a real problem people care about enough to use a dedicated app for? Or is this too niche?

What would make you contribute regularly to an “experience-first” app?

I’m exploring a platform focused on:

  • real experiences
  • food/travel/stays
  • authentic moments
  • emotional context around places

But the biggest question is:

Why would users keep posting consistently?

What would genuinely motivate you?

  • identity/status?
  • community?
  • discovery?
  • social interaction?
  • usefulness?
  • memories?

Would love honest answers.

I’m currently validating an app idea around “experience-first discovery”.

Main idea:
people share authentic moments from places so others understand:

  • vibe
  • emotional feel
  • social energy
  • comfort
  • real experience

instead of relying mostly on ratings/reels.

Current questions I’m struggling with:

  • What would make this genuinely useful?
  • Why would users contribute regularly?
  • What would make people trust the content?
  • What features would make this feel different from Instagram/Google Maps?

Would genuinely love brutal feedback.

I’ve noticed people explore places VERY differently.

Some chase hidden spots.

Some love social energy.

Some want peaceful cafés.

Some just want comfort and familiarity.

I’m exploring an app idea where discovery becomes more personality-based instead of generic ratings.

Like recommendations based

I’ve been thinking about building an app around discovering places through real experiences instead of just ratings/reels.

Like instead of:

“4.7⭐ café”

people would share:

* how the place actually felt

* the vibe

* energy

* crowd

* comfort

* whether it’s better for dates/work/solo time/groups etc

Do reels ruin places for anyone else?

Some places look magical online and feel completely average in real life.

What makes expectations feel so disconnected now?

Would you trust which of these ?

* a 4.8⭐ rating food restaurant/hotel

OR

* someone with similar taste/vibe as you?

I feel similarity matters more than popularity now.

What kind of explorer are you honestly?

* hidden spot person?

* café hopper?

* comfort traveler?

* chaotic street explorer?

* weekend escapist?

* luxury stays?

* food-first traveler?

I feel everyone explores cities differently.

A hotel can have great ratings and still give you a bad experience

Ratings never tell you things like:

peaceful or noisy

good vibe or dead vibe

feels premium or just looks premium online

That’s the stuff people actually care about.

Imagine discovering food places through actual experiences instead of influencers

Not paid reels.

Not aesthetic edits.

Just real people sharing:

what they ordered

how it felt

what made it memorable

Honestly feels more trustworthy.

Food ratings tell me if people liked it. Not why they liked it.

There’s a huge difference between:

“4.4⭐ good food”

and

“Perfect late-night comfort food with amazing vibe”

One is data.

Other is an actual experience.
