How is it living in Los Angeles / greater LA area?

How is it living in Los Angeles / greater LA area?

I've always wanted to live out in Los Angeles and considering doing it now while I'm still a little on the young side. I'm 29M and currently on the west coast of Florida so I've always dreamed of moving out to the real west coast

I fell in love with the city the first time I visited and still love it just as much every other time I've been there since

Now don't get me wrong, I know there are a ton of cons about LA. Be honest, I want to know what I'd be getting myself into. But I'm also curious to hear if there are folks out there that genuinely do enjoy living there. I know everywhere has its pros and cons so I'm just curious if I might personally find the pros of LA outweigh its cons if I can find the right place for me

I say the greater LA area since I don't know where exactly to start out for what's safe/affordable/etc. I would be happy simply just being out in the California sun so I don't really mind where I am. Just as long as I could get to the beach on the weekends without too horrible of a drive

Open to suggestions of other cities in California if you think it would be a better fit. I just say LA since I like all the food I've had there more than anywhere else I've ever been (not that food is the primary motivating factor for moving there but it's certainly a plus lol)

So before you all start replying with how horrible of a place it is, I'll list out with the things I do like:
* consistently beautiful weather (I like the idea of living in a seasonal time machine as some people say)
* amazing views with the mountains and palm trees juxtaposed against the city
* plus so many spots to go hiking to see these views! Don't think I could ever get sick of walking around the Griffith Observatory
* huge emphasis on the arts and creative thinking. I'm a former musician so it's really refreshing meeting other musicians out in casual settings (even if it might be performative to some degree lol)
* hot take: I prefer "California nice" to "midwestern nice" but I could go on forever about that...

La Kush Cake - Mint flavor?

I've been smoking for about 4 years now and have never come across any strains with a mint aftertaste until trying LA Kush Cake here

I had it in flower from Jungle Boys and also a live rosin vape from Trulieve

The effects are nice but I personally just didn't care for the taste. It's more like peppermint, not spearmint (that would be better imo)

Is that common for the way this strain is supposed to taste?

Maybe I'll have to go to Los Angeles and compare how it is out there lol

California Dreaming

USA citizen here currently in Florida. 29 M, unemployed with a comp sci degree. I have zero friends, no confidence, and feeling stuck staying at home with my toxic family who are in a constant doom loop of watching the news without actually wanting to move out of here

Only heard about workaway today and sounds like it might be a good opportunity to get away for a bit!

Is this a good program for Americans looking to travel within the US? Or is it more geared for international folks? Going overseas would be nice but I've always wanted to live in California so thought this might be a good way to get out there without too much commitment

Currently waiting for the AI bubble to burst so I can go back to being a regular old programmer lol

Curious to hear your thoughts! Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, I can post elsewhere if that's more appropriate

Hit me like a truck

Like the title says: What are some good vape strains that are best for putting your brain on vacation and NOT being functional?

I don't like smoking and edibles are hit or miss for me so I prefer vaping. I try to stick to these 4 (edit: 3) dispos for loyalty:

  1. Jungle Boys (their distillate carts are surprisngly strong)
  2. Trulieve (modern flower in both live resin and live sauz are good)
  3. Flowery (occasionally they have some vapes that are heavy hitters but not too consistent in my experience)

Yes I have a high tolerance and yes I will be taking a break soon lol, I'm mostly asking for what to try first afterwards since I feel a little burnt out with the effects of my current rotation and want to try something new (for example I do a hit of 3 different carts to get my desired state when it would be nice to just have one)

Not necessarily put me to sleep, just to turn off my internal monologue. Some strains are better than others for that

Trulieve Vapes

Hey y'all! Looking for some recommendations from my Trulieve friends

I've shopping at TL lately and really been liking their vapes. I've only had Modern Flower so far but they've all been really good! Live sauz and live resin both were good but I can't really decide which is better since they each had nice effects and flavor

These are the strains I've tried from most to least favorite (no bad ones, all good!). I usually prefer indica leaning body highs:

  1. Miami Queso
  2. LA Kush Cake
  3. Sly Look

(Random aside, I know this is weird but the MF vapes have an aftertaste reminds me of tootsie rolls lol, I love it)

Do you guys have any other similar recommendations for some good vapes to try at TL? My rec is getting close and cash is limited so I don't want to buy too much

Thanks in advance!

Air gapped?

Just want some general discussion started on fully offline / air gapped systems

Not trying to make any statements or take sides / start fights. Genuinely curious and want to see what you guys think:

\---
Say tomorrow something catastrophic happens and we don't have internet. Power is still up and running for basic functions but for whatever reason the internet is down (environment/politics/etc.). Doomsday scenario I know, but just hear me out

Could we somehow create our own offline version of Claude/chatgpt using local models only? Not as powerful of course, but with say $2000 could you build a semi decent working version?

\---
I say all this because I think maybe the question I'm trying to ask is could we all somehow feasibly separate AI from the cloud providers in a long term effort to safely get out of this whole monopolization mess?

Sorry if this isn't the right place for this discussion, I can post somewhere else if needed. Just want to get some ideas going

I might be totally oblivious to something so I'm sorry in advance if I'm asking stupid question lol

Erickerhead

Wonder if this means we might see Pencilvester again

If not then... why do you think I have one of *THESE* on my head? ✏️

But seriously though it would be cool to see the memory parasites show up again

Unironically loved Sleepy Gary and want to see more of him somehow

This might be more of a feature than a bug

Season 8 just feels like a sad adult drama with some comedic elements sprinkled on top

Before this show was a comedy with dramatic elements added occasionally

Some folks may like this but I'm really checked out. I fell in love with this show for the humor since it was a comfort watch but now it's just stressful and depressing to watch it

Moderate fan of Metric here, been listening since 2019 and seen them live twice. They're one of my favorites but they've been in that category of comfort listens where I know they're always going to sound about the same to me. Nothing bad about that though since I like the consistency sometimes depending on my mood

Their new song, Tremelo, completely changed that and really blew me away...

I was shuffling a bunch of random artists like Gorillaz, Tennis, St Vincent, etc. and then when this came on my first thought was Charli xcx (just a little bit like Boom Clap)

Like at 1:21 when Emily hits the higher register she sounds so unrecognizable and is a completely new style. And I am SO there for it! Plus when she pairs it with the whispery lower notes in the build up, it makes for such a cool contrast and is a completely new vibe that I've never heard them play before as a band

Emily's voice is so recognizable to me that I thought I've heard all the styles she was capable of until now so this just really makes me love her as a vocalist even more. Up there with Marina and Lauren Mayberry for me

Plus as a band overall this entire album is such a huge departure from anything else Metric has ever done. Closest I can compare it to is Pagans in Vegas for the electric synths. It's giving me some Naked and Famous vibes too, but with just slight melancholy shade evocative of some dystopian movie in some parts (like Gattaca or In Time)

(Sorry for all the comparisons, I could go on... it's just making me re-discover why I love the band in the first place. If it matters, I was only born in 96 so I'm definitely on the younger side of the Metric fans, plz be kind 😅)

What do y'all think about:
• Surterra
• Goldflower
• MUV

I haven't been to any of those dispos yet, are they worth checking out? I mainly go to Jungle Boys and Cookies but was curious about trying some other places if it might be worth it

I know it's not a new opinion but...

Why couldn't he have just stayed back in time? That would have been the perfect ending for that type of character

I get the whole we-gotta-be-serious-and-make-it-realistic but it's just boring. These movies used to be fun when it was Spielberg

At least the Great Circle feels like classic Indy, even if we never got another proper movie
