Hello everyone. I am 35M, traveller going to Shillong tomorrow (14May). Will stay in Shillong for a few days and then travel across Meghalaya a bit. Want some cool suggestions of things to do in and around Shillong. Cafes, pubs, light treks and other sights to see around the city. If anyone wants to hang out too, feel to DM. I am a chilled out person who likes to travel to new places. Experience the culture people and cuisine.

It's tough being a hopeless romantic

I am just intrinsically tuned to be a romantic. Right from when I was young, I never could make sense of the idea of casual relationships, situationships, fwb, open relationship et al. Whenever I fell in love with someone, I dived in thinking this is my forever. Most of my past relationships for long durations before it fell through.

Now I feel like an outlier in the modern day prevalence of open relationships, fwb, situationships etc. just feel a bit out of place when my heart yearns for true love and that loving forever companion. Not willing to feel vulnerable in love with someone and then be scorned for flimsy reasons because they were seeking something else.

Anyone feels similarly?

Just came back from a month long solo trip to Thailand. Covered Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and some more of the north + Bangkok, Pattaya and neighbouring areas.

Got flights super cheap around 15K return from Kolkata that too during Songkran. Stay was around 2.5k average per day. Chiang Mai was cheap, Bangkok slightly expensive. I used credit cards so got 30-50% value back in points.

Food per day can be done for around 500-600. For me it was 1k average since I ate whatever looked interesting irrespective of budget. Used grab bikes or bus/BTS for intra city travel generally around 50-150 per ride depending on distance.

The major expense was on alcohol and parties as I went out on 70% of the nights.

Loved Chiang Mai (will go back again and live longer even thinking of shifting their permanently on DTV), hated Pattaya (too intense NSFW scene), neutral about Bangkok (cool city but noisy crowded and April was too hot).

Chiang Mai to Bangkok flight was 4k.

If someone is conscious about the budget, 1 month can easily be done for 80K-1L including flights. I overstretched a bit but no regrets with the memories I created.

I was in Bali and Java in Feb and absolutely loved it. Want to travel Indonesia again but this time wanna see the other islands, maybe Sulawesi, Java, Lombok etc for a couple of months.

How is travelling there in July and August? Will it be too hot then?

I came back on this sub after a month long break for travel. And was bombarded with a plethora of sad, lonely posts. Well, I must confess I have been in that space for a few months after I broke up in 2024. Life seemed to be good on the career Nd finances part but fell apart on the relationship front.

It was a rut that consumed me completely. Then, the eternal optimist in me shook me out of my sad existence. I started taking small steps of going out of my house whenever possible just hanging around and be comfortable in solitude at parks, cafes, long drives, quiet dinners. Yes it felt awkward initially since I was so used to having someone I loved around me always. But one gets used to it. Then, I started solo travelling and man, my perspective about life hasn't been the same. It drove me out of my comfort zone completely. The world and people around us are so nice and beautiful if only we see them with the right perspective.

My advice to all those feelings sad and down in their 30s is to just get out of the house, do what feels good. The right vibe will find you and you will soon be in the best phase of your life. 30s is when you are in your prime. Enjoy it..

SEA is one of my fav places to solo trip to. Cheap, safe and incredibly friendly people. Have touched almost all countries and created some amazing memories, made incredible friends and seen unforgettable sunsets. I started solo travelling when I was in a difficult point in my life. And o boy has my life changed ever since.

Loved some places, hated some moments, felt afraid, lonely at times. Yet my horizons broadened and confidence sky rocketed. So much so that I am contemplating moving for good and settle there for a while. Options I am looking at are Chiang Mai, Bali, Cebu or Da Nang.

Travelling has truly made me a different person.

Hello folks. How is everyone doing? I was thinking if we should do a short weekend meet this Saturday. Can enjoy some cold coffee over chat and discuss who will win Bengal or whatever interesting stuff we are upto.

Idea is to connect with likeminded 30s people and talk about things of common interest.

What do you think?
