Sony MDR-1 Headphones (from a WM-4 Cassette Walkman) - I need new foam for ear pieces!

Hi folks,

Does anyone have a source for replacement foam for the MDR-1 headphones? They came with the WM-4 originally, I have a very very mint, just fully serviced example which I'd like to be able to use the headphones with, but the foam is long gone unfortunately.

I can't seem to find any for this model online, but I'm pretty sure they were black foam pieces based on a catalogue I've seen.

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

Thanks!

Any recommendations for good quality and repairable CD player separate?

Hi folks,

I've got a budget of circa £350/$400USD, I've sort of discounted a few newer options in the UK (Cambridge AXC35 & NAD C538) because reviews are mixed around longevity, and I really don't want to be buying another player in a few years or having issues off the bat.

Digital outputs are a bonus but as long as the player has a decent sound to go into my NAD 3020A, that will be good.

I realise that older stuff may have issues but as long as it's repairable e.g. replacement lasers available etc, I'm open to it.

Any suggestions are gratefully appreciated,
Thanks!

Bought a new deck - what II and IV blank tapes are still decent in 2026? Any other hacks for cheaper tapes?

Hi Folks,

I've just bought a dream deck of mine - a Nakamichi CR4 to replace a B&O Ouverture I have, and I'm very excited to have a decent tape deck which can record. The CR4 is about to be serviced by a specialist, but once it's back I'm keep to start recording from CDs and other sources.

I've been picking up quite a few NOS type 1 tapes over the past year or so, but in hindsight I should have been focusing on Type 2 and IV options.

I realise now that some of these are big bucks, but I'm just wondering what makes/models should be avoided?

I've done some research which suggested long record ones like 120 minutes should be avoided as they degrade/stretch etc.

I'm frightfully aware a lot of these tapes (even NOS) are of a decent age now, so putting aside prior storage conditions it would be good to understand what are good and what aren't.

Also, were there albums/other things recorded on high quality tapes which are suitable for recording over? and is there any negatives to this?

Any guidance is greatly appreciated :)

Thanks
