Well, I just got this for free.

Looking to restore it as it's been in storage for 20 years. I've done a complete blow out with my compressor, and the standard dusting. Any concerns before I plug it in?

I just need some small stands for my speakers and I think I’m set for a bit.

Picked up in a ‘surprise’ audio bundle. Thoughts on these?

These only caught me by surprise because of how heavy they were for their size. when I picked them up I had to stop for a second. These and a random assortment of speakers I paid $20 on a you get what you get but you have to take it purge from a fellow in town.

Any input? Cheers.

Celestion 66 studio monitors I got from a colleague

A colleague from work has been downsizing and gave me these celestion 66 studio monitors, and I’m wondering if anyone on this sub knows anything about them? I was also wondering if there’s much I can do about the rusting and general condition, thank you for any help

Beginner's first purchase advice

Hi, I'm new to the world of audio equipment apart from a few purchased iems connected to my phone's headphone jack. I wanted to buy speakers that are around 100-200 dollars and I found some second hand. I personally like things vintage so I figured maybe some vintage audio equipment is the way to go. Just wanted some advice and insight, what are your thoughts on these three listed products?

The larger speaker and stereo system is sold as-is, the speaker is working but the seller didn't describe if it sounded good or not. The sony system is sold as-is since it can turn on but it hasn't been tested for other functions. The smaller speaker works fine and sounds good according to the seller. I like the asthetics of all three of the things listed even if the two first ones are a bit dirty. i'm used to buying stuff secondhand and cleaning them up.

I'm so sorry if this is a dumb post

In 1976, Sony made a cassette tape twice the size of a regular one, running at twice the speed. It lasted exactly 4 years.

Sony called it the Elcaset. The idea was simple: take everything that made open-reel tape great, and put it in a cassette shell.

The tape inside was 6.3mm wide - double the compact cassette. The transport speed was 9.5 cm/s - also double. The deck used a three-motor drive with closed-loop dual capstan, same approach as professional reel-to-reel machines. Two models: EL-7 at ¥198,000 (~$3,700 current) and EL-5 at ¥128,000 (~$2,400 todays money)

The format wasn't just Sony:
Panasonic, Technics, TEAC and JVC all made Elcaset decks too, as I know per licence.

Problem was, by 1976 the compact cassette had already grown up. Dolby killed the noise problem. Nobody wanted a bigger, heavier, more expensive cassette when the small one was getting good enough.

Sony pulled the plug in 1980. Four years, then gone.

90s Yamaha System- trash or treasure?

Should I toss this Yahama system, or try to find it a new home? I’m not 100% sure on the year, but we think it was purchased in the 90s. Happy to recycle it, but I can’t tell if it’s treasure to someone. thanks!

JBL 4311 restore.

Recapped, repainted, and restrained. Tore up a foil cal on one of the speakers but I’m happy with the overall!

Now what should I keep? L-100’s or 4311’s?

Just got my new to me JVC deck, first deck in near 25 years

bought it off of goodwill (td-v531). I seen it get re-listed a few times before I bid on it. my guess is that the first two listings shocked the winning bidders with a super high shipping fee ($50+), but somehow for me it was only $22. anyway, it's in 95% mint condition, came with the original box as well. Looks to have fairly low usage so that's a plus. the only thing is that the "music scan" works maybe half the time (it searches for the next dead silence before the next song) so I think it's something failing, so far regular rewind, fast forwarding, and play are working perfectly.

Is this worth anything?

Ignore the speakers XD

This is sitting in an empty flat at my grandpa's place so it's basically free. How does it compare to modern tech?

Sansui Mc-X7 Alfa (A good choice?)

90s Japanese system, only 15€, but I don't know if it was a good choice (I need recommendations because it is my first time trying something like this).

I am wondering which bufles pick, any recommendations would help me a lot!

It works perfectly, the cassette compartments too! only some damages and some rare lights.

Help me finalize the dream setup.

In the next week or so I'm about to go on a trip and at that point I plan to get some speakers as it's on my way. Currently I'm not sure which one to get as all are similar in prices.

  1. JBL L86 at 600 euros (refoamed)

  2. JBL L110A with 250W output at 650 euros some work done on woofers but the seller doesn't know what exactly Other than that it really is mint condition. Input pins swapped with modern banana pins. (English not my main)

  3. Wharfdale Super Denton walnut finish with Mission Stancett at 620 euros New ones go for 990 euros plus the stands. Sellers says he is selling to get the newer version.

All have grills with them.

I always wanted a big vintage 3 way speaker (current ones look great but are just not as I hoped for) and for a while now JBl seems as the obvious pick. I started from the iconic models, and realised I don't have the budget for them.

My current setup is Pioneer SX-750 with Pioneer CS-711A speakers and a Technics SL-D2 turntable. The room is 4m x 4m with one side opened to dinning room and rest of the apartment.

Music i listen to is mostly Jazz, Blues, Rock and Oldschool Hip Hop. Low to moderate volumes are mostly played due to a 14 years old baby girl.

Any feedback and thoughts, would be much appreciated.

B&O for $100?

Thinking of getting this B&O turntable, and the stylus is in the middle, but other pictures I’ve seen of this model have them on the end (last pic). Is this a problem that can easily be fixed? I’ve always liked this model of turntable from B&O, so it’d be awesome to get it working if it isn’t already

How to deal with super collectors?

sorry this may be more of a rant than an actual post

I've been trying to get a Marantz for a while (feel free to judge me). I finally found a Marantz 2270 at what I thought was a good price. When I messaged the guy, he said he had a buyer pending, but was gonna try to talk him out of it since the buyer gloated that he was collecting every Marantz he could get his hands on. Anyways the buyer ended up giving him more money than listed and got the Marantz

how am I supposed to compete with a retired rich dude that is obsessively scrolling through FB marketplace and Craigslist gobbling up every receiver available??

What is this receptacle please?

It’s on the back of a Japanese turntable. The silver round thing is the ground, but the red thing beats me. It’s connected to the motor, so it’s supposed to be a power cable. Thank you all!
