Fulfilled a multi-year dream recently, put my music on cassette.

I've been wanting to do this for the past 4-ish years. It's taken me time to build up a tape collection, get a portable player/deck, and feel confident enough to make the splurge and get my own music onto proper cassettes!

I got a small run of 20 tapes from duplication.ca. Super happy with how they came out. I ended up using my University's print shop for the j-cards (their first time doing so) and they came out wonderful.

I started my ambient project, Opals, inspired by the ambient cassette scene of the 00s where artists would base their music around the format. So it feels full circle to finally have it on here. The music is nature-inspired drone that uses computer noise, tape recordings, and nature sounds.

I went with a blood-red tape to match the inspiration for the album, a deer skull left in the forest. It's an album about death and decay.

Budget serviced Walkmans for sale (UK)

Hello!

Last month I posted some Walkmans that I had for sale and got a positive response, So I thought I'd repost my latest inventory and reiterate some of the points from the previous post:

As an active member of this sub I see a lot of issues come up with people purchasing 2nd-hand Walkmans and other portable players.. Either assuming a simple belt replacement and getting more than they bargained for, or buying a supposedly working model and being disappointed with performance.

These Walkmans have been cleaned and serviced to the best of my ability.. this means properly cleaning out the belt path, not just replacing. Cleaning capstans and pinch rollers, cleaning out switches, dials and jacks with contact cleaner, calibrating tape speed and any other electronic repair and clean-up jobs as needed.

Additionally each listing contains a video of the tape function at work and some rough analytical data (tape speed, WRMS) for reference. I also offer 14-day returns if you are not happy with your purchase. In the event that you are experiencing issues then I am on hand to offer advice (most of the time I find that the issues that come up are to do with the condition of the cassette rather than the player).

As you will see I also have a couple of compact cassette player/radios which have been serviced in the same way. I have a couple of boomboxes too (Panasonic RX4922-L and JVC RC-440), and will list them as soon as I've sorted out packaging requirements.. let me know if you're interested in either of those.. I am a big boombox fan but they seem to be less popular with buyers!

I probably won't do another post like this as I'd like to try to build up a bit more of a rolling stock rather than selling in batches, so if you're still on the lookout for something then bookmark the store or follow my seller profile.

My little ebay store is now called Cassette Cave and the link is here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/cassettecave

Radio station cassette collection, air checks, DJ Drops, banter, jokes etc

I have a collection of cassettes that came from a DJ who worked at stations in Chicago then in Boston. Lots are just regular mixed tapes maybe edited versions radio friendly. Others are just awesome, filled with a few days or so worth of everything in between the songs played. Any dj drops, station is, joke of the day type stuff. I enjoy listening to them it brings me back to 1997. is there a market for these? I almost figure there isn't a whole lot of this stuff. a lot of this is for hot 97.7 Boston

Help finding motor for Sony WM-GX54

I am trying to repair this Walkman and I believe the motor has gone on it. I replaced the belt already, but when I hit play it makes a screeching sound with nothing moving then stops and then the reel spindles move for a second followed by 3 beeps. Googling that motor code I couldn't find any replacements, but I also looked at a ton of cassette motors and cant find any with that specific mounting and lug patterns. Does anybody know where I can find a replacement motor of any sort or am I sol?

Thanks!

Got a huge cassette display!

It was my birthday on the 1st of April, and I got a huge display for my tapes! These aren’t all of them though, I’ve still got quite a few left at university. Very happy with it though as this is my favourite way to display/ store cassettes :)

Cassettes in Paris

Flying into Paris today for a week - was wondering if anyone here knows of any good places to find tapes - prerecorded that is. There must be some great spots I would imagine.
