Just curious if the area you live in is the same?

Where I live (Ontario), almost nobody obeys the rules. That's not an exaggeration. Any car you see is either speeding, tailgating, rolling through stop signs/lights or not signaling. Most are doing several of those, all are doing at least one.

I suspect a lot of this has to do with me becoming more observant as I get older, but I guarantee some of it is new. One example is people who are already on the highway using an adjacent on-ramp to pass a few cars.

I never saw this until recently, and now I see it at least twice a week.

Is the same true where you live? Have you noticed things getting worse as I have?

Can anyone point me to some plans/drawings/blueprints?

I'd very much like to have a look at some design drawings for naval ships, preferably WWI era dreadnoughts and cruisers. I can find the occasional drawing, but they're usually quite small.

Is there a site somewhere that has some large-scale images of this sort of drawing? I'm fascinated by these ships, and I'd love to see more detail of their construction.

I learned something new today.

I've been catching up on some reading, and I've recently opened up The Guns of August by Barbara Tuchman. I've always been under the impression that Germany's involvement was simply due to their obligations to Austria, but she paints quite a different picture. The assassination was certainly the catalyst, but it seems that Wilhelm II was already chomping at the bit to invade France anyway.

I've long known that the war was a result of simmering political tensions, but never knew why most of the blame was laid at Germany's feet. I didn't know how strong their imperial aspirations were. In fact, Tuchman almost glosses over the Austrian aggression against Serbia (at least up to the point I've reached) and focuses on Germany.

It's a fascinating new perspective, and helps explain why Germany was so reviled afterwards.

I'm angry, most would say unreasonably so.

I'm Canadian, and as such, I've lived a life where I'm bombarded by both SI and imperial units. The more I think about it, the more angry I get about it.

As a technician, I've spent thousands on tools I should never have needed because imperial units are so common here. It's actually difficult to find metric fasteners in a lot of cases.

Our culture is even affected, people use a mixture of the two in daily life. I get offended when people try to use imperial units.

Perhaps I shouldn't be getting upset, but it's not about the units. It's about the stubbornness of certain countries. Almost the entire human race uses SI units, but because of a few holdouts, we're stuck with a mess. It smacks of arrogance to me. Some might say I'm no better, but the difference here is I have most of the world on my side so to speak.

That's all, just a vent.

In light of the claims that the Iranian nuclear program is/was a threat, I'd like to ask a few questions about what it would look like if they assembled a device:

  1. Would it be very low-tech (a gun-type warhead or primitive implosion type)?

  2. Would they be able to develop multi-stage (hydrogen) weapons at this point?

  3. Would they have the ability to miniaturize warheads for service on missiles?

My impression as an amateur 'enthusiast' is that the hard part is the fissile material. It makes me wonder if they would need to do further development to reach more modern designs, would they need to have a test program, or could the use a turnkey design?

It seems that India, Pakistan and North Korea all have relatively low-yield weapons (20-70kt or so), which makes me wonder if they're similar to early u.s. designs, or just intentionally kept low-yield by choice?

I can't imagine Iran being able to build a large number of them, or building anything sophisticated yet. They certainly couldn't deliver warheads outside the region (as far as I know).

Surely it's still a threat, but it can't be on the level of a large arsenal with high-yield/low mass warheads. Right?

I'm driving along in the right lane on the highway. You come up behind me, following too close. I turn on my hazards. You eventually get the message and pass me, only to tailgate the semi truck in front of me (who is going the same speed I am). You exit the highway a kilometer up the road.

This makes you a moron. Not only are you risking lives, you're wasting fuel for zero gain.

I had to order a heat shield/bracket for my vapour canister, but I cannot find the bolts listed anywhere. I'll have something on hand with the right thread, but I'd much rather use OEM parts.

Does anyone know if these sorts of things come with fasteners? I'm assuming not, but I'll be damned if they're listed elsewhere.

I'm so tired of being the only one who obeys the rules. People on the highway are constantly speeding, 20 over the limit is no exaggeration. Then I run into someone who's doing 20 under. Now I'm stuck doing 40 less than the prevailing traffic. That's a recipe for disaster.

Why can't you just use your brain?

I have a 2015 Mazda 3 2.0. I've been planning on blasting the intake runners for months, but don't have the adapter for the vacuum. I'm going to design and print my own, but I don't have the port dimensions and I can't afford to have the car off the road long enough to print them and do the blasting, they have to be printed first so I can get it done in a weekend (though I suppose I could take some vacation).

Does anyone know the dimensions of the intake ports on these heads? If I can get them, I'll knock up a model and post it here for free.

My old toothbrush (Oral-B) has a dying battery, so I bought a new one (Phillips Sonicare, I can't remember which one).

I'm quite disappointed, to the point that I'm genuinely considering buying something else, despite the cost.

The two biggest problems for me are the fact that this one turns off after two minutes, so I have to keep restarting it and I don't like the action, it's a slight vibration instead of the aggressive motion I'm used to.

I've read the manual, there's no way to change the timer, two minutes is the max. As for the action, I'm not saying it's ineffective, it might even be better, but it feels wrong psychologically. I'm having trouble getting over it.

I'm wondering if there are any suggestions for something that maybe doesn't have a timer at all, or an adjustable one? And maybe something that has a more aggressive action? Oral-B and Braun aren't an option.

I was heading home after work yesterday, coasting toward a red light, when a lifted pickup truck sped past me and swerved in front of me only to stop at that same light. He did this when we were about fifteen meters away, far too aggressive.

It was a lifted truck with those stupid aftermarket wheels, the ones with a super high offset so they stick out. He sat there with his arm out the window, cigarette in hand, chatting to his pal in the passenger seat.

He had mirrored sunglasses on, a baseball cap, a goatee and tattoos. He threw his cigarette butt on the road, and took off like a stabbed rat when the light turned green.

This is a garbage person, and he looked the part. We're taught not to judge people based on their appearance, but it's often a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

The definition of thalassophobia is a fear of open water and the ocean (according to Wikipedia).

For me, what I find really upsetting is the vast expanse of the ocean below me, and especially large ships. Being in the water near a large ship is terrifying to me, particularly the hull and propellers I can't see. Having it towering over me is scary and the mass of it under the water is as well.

I'm not particularly afraid of the open ocean itself, at least not at the surface. It sort of melds in with megalophobia.
