r/thalassophobia
A quick 46ft drop into the sandy bottom that's a bit spooky
Not as terrifying as the deep blue sea, because i see the bottom -_-
Ocean showing fraction of its power
The most cosmic dive ever captured
Probably my favorite photo ever taken.
I hope you like it

On this job, the divers actually cut for about 140 hours to make this cut. Hats off, guys, because you certainly had a hard time.

Today I actually felt some thalassophobia ! First time doing a drop into the BLUE
I'm diving in the ocean solo often every week from shore dives. And I swim very far away from the shore/entry point. But I usually can see the bottom and reef structures lol today I was 600ft away from the bottom and it was nothing but BLUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ! STRAIGHT UP ABYSS! I hit 50-55ft no issues. However I was not feeling the attempt here ahaha. I mentally clocked out at 30ft
My kid found out about Subnautica.... How screwed am I?
So, how fucked am I? He loves playing new games and this was recommended by a friend, BUT he wants to play with me, which I love! He's been playing for a couple of days and asked if I would play it?
For reference we play video games together or if the story is single player we'll play at the same time and talk about where we are in the game. I haven't told him I'm terrified and will piss myself because I both love/adore and scared shitless of the ocean (some of the habitants, and deep ocean).... Honest reviews of the game please and thanks!
I was inspired by this subreddit to create a painting.
I wanted to create something that showed both the beauty and vastness of the underwater world. I wanted it to evoke the same emotions I had when I first found this subreddit. Oil on canvas.
When swimming in the open sea, I regularly get intrusive images of the ocean suddenly and rapidly getting polluted by sewage water, it's extremely unsettling and disturbing. Here, it's way milder than my imagination during those scenarios but the idea is the same.
youtu.beFace Rock - Bandon, OR
I took these photos of Face Rock while vacationing on the Oregon Coast this weekend. Seeing it/being close to it immediately triggered intense discomfort, and reading the corresponding legend did not help matters! Even looking at the pictures scares me.
You can read about it here - https://thebandonguide.com/the-legend-of-face-rock/
This probably falls more specifically into megalohydrothalassophobia, which I definitely have!
Took this picture today when the plane reached 4200 meters, the average depth of the Pacific Ocean
TOI-1452 b, an exo-Hycean World
This exoplanet orbits a red dwarf binary system 100 light years away and it's thought to be completely covered in water. An ocean world. It is estimated that its whole water accounts for 30% of the planets entire mass. To put that into perspective, earth's ocean accounts for only 1% of its mass. This is an exo nightmare fuel!!!
The Artemis II splashdown made me think I may rather be in space than in the ocean
For some reason, space doesn’t bother me as much as open ocean. Maybe it’s because I know for a certainty that there’s living things in the ocean?
