My Shangri-la is turning into a Champs Elysees

I just cut off a piece of my Shangri-la to prop, and I noticed the new leaves are losing their crinkly texture. But they have gills now, like a Champs Elysees.

Does anyone know what’s going on here? Or do Shangri-las always have gills, but we just don’t see them because they’re so curled up?

Jade?

I had a random cutting that took about seven months to root in water. It was found mangled on the floor of Home Depot last summer, and there were jades and goldens hanging above it.

When it finally did get decent roots, I put it on a moss pole and it TOOK OFF. That newest leaf is 9”!

The discoloration on the bottom leaves is damage, not variegation. This plant gets a lot of light (12 hours/day) and there isn’t a hint of variegation on the healthy leaves. Do we think it’s a jade, or is it a low variegation golden?

Structure question

We own a manufactured home and I’m shockingly ignorant about its construction. I understand it had to be transported in sections, and I believe they join at the master bedroom/living room wall in the floor plan I’ve included.

What is going on inside that wall? We use the master bedroom as a second living room/family room, and we’re trying to locate a stud to mount a large screen TV. We’re hitting something solid behind the drywall that’s much larger than a stud. We can’t figure out if it’s a vertical object or horizontal. Before we cut out a section of drywall to see what the deal is, can anyone give us any insight? I’m guessing it has something to do with how the sections of the house are attached, but I’m probably wrong lol.

The house was manufactured in Quebec in 1998 by Marcoux Homes and we’re in Massachusetts.

Shangri-la reverting?

My little two-vine shangri-la on a moss pole had a rough winter in my underheated basement. It has been relocated to the upstairs for rehabbing, but I noticed the new growth is coming in without the curl on both vines. Is this due to trauma, or some other factor? In spite of its cold environment, it was receiving adequate light and diluted nutrients the whole time. Will the curl come back?

What’s happening here?

I’ve had this nepenthes for about 10 months and it’s always seemed really happy, but all of a sudden it’s got a few leaves turning black.

Is this normal? Is there something I need to fix?

I’m job hunting, and I need to have a couple of suits ready to go. There isn’t much demand for suits these days, so I’m not finding anything new in stores, especially in my size, US 4P. Therefore I’m looking at Poshmark and other resale platforms.

I’m in the metro Boston area, and I’m a senior executive assistant to CEOs and other top executives. I need to dress up for interviews.

I’ve already purchased the first suit, the double breasted burgundy tweed, and I’m really happy with it. I’m including it here to give you an idea of my personal taste.

The second suit, the taupe, is appropriate, but it just isn’t me. I don’t like the long jacket, I know the skirt is going to have to be shortened even though it’s petite, and the color is a giant yawn. It looks dated to me.

The third suit (2 photos), black with tiny pink dots, is more my style. I could take or leave the pink dots, but my question is whether they’re interview-appropriate. They’re pretty subtle. To be honest, if the pink dots keep me from getting an offer, I probably don’t want to work there. I have a lot of personality. 😉

So what do you think: black with pink dots or the taupe yawn? Or neither?

A few months ago, contractors from our electric utility company came to our house to change the meter as part of an upgrade that’s being performed. They couldn’t change it at the time because they said the conduit in the ground had shifted due to frost heaves, and the cable was exposed. They needed some special equipment or part to do the switch so they would need to come back. They never came back.

Last week while we were traveling out of state, our power was disconnected due to a billing issue. (We had screwed up.) We rectified the issue over the phone and they sent someone to reconnect the power. That guy then called me to let me know that the meter is broken and needs a new socket. He was able to reconnect our power, through what he called a bridge, but we can only use 110 V until the repair has been done.

Now they said it’s our responsibility to call an electrician to fix this. He said we can put in a claim for reimbursement (yeah, I’m not holding my breath). They knew there was an previous issue with the meter, they didn’t fix it, the person who shut off our electricity destroyed it, and now it’s on me to hire someone to solve a problem I can’t even intelligently describe.

Any words of advice? How do I even approach this? Pics of my meter included.

I just wanted to show off my new Thai Con (aka Mysteria Spotsylvania 🙄). I’ve been wanting one for a while, but the big box store plants I can afford always look like 💩.

I found this one yesterday at the Depot for $30 with no leaf damage and a new one about to unfurl. Should I treat her any differently than my regular deliciosas? She’ll be getting either a sphagnum moss pole (like the others) or a plank (which I have never tried) and a grow light, once she acclimates.

I’ve had this cabinet in the box since August, and I was finally able to put it together this week. It’s the discontinued green Rudsta, and I might have literally gotten the last one in the US. I had to fight for it!

For now, the only modification I’ve made was punching a hole in the bottom shelf and adding a grommet for wires. I’ve got two Barrina T5s for each shelf, taped to the underside with some funky adhesive that I hope will hold. I’m running them off a Kasa smart power strip.

I’m using the original glass shelving for now. No humidifiers, no fans. I’m going to add a couple of hygrometers, but for the time being I just want to see how everyone does in this setup.
