Amazon hiring philosophy

I will give Amazon one thing. Their hiring philosophy is 100% solid! Love the bar raiser mindset. A lot of recruiters run scared when they see someone with experience, especially hiring managers. They view anyone with experience as a threat so they get scared and run away. It’s so pathetic.

Kudos to Amazon for getting it right!!!!!!!

Writing assessment

I submitted by writing assessment test and immediately noticed I forgot to paste over the first paragraphs from MS Word. I immediately let my recruiter know and sent them the full writing assessment test including the first couple of paragraphs.

I hope they can correct on their end or at least get the full version over to who needs to get it that will interview me.

If not, I guess it’s an automatic fail. Sucks because I put hours into it. :(

Hiring question

I got email from source recruiter today that said I’m going to final round of interviews/loop but I never even had any earlier rounds of screenings or interviews. Is it common for someone to skip all the way to the final round?

Amazon Interviews

I feel like there is too much focus on STAR and trying to shape every answer into a STAR box so to speak.

To me, interviews should be a natural 2 way process where people should be able to give answers about their experience without checking off all parts of STAR. Sometimes you may have a really important thing to mention about your experience but may be afraid to do so if you feel you can’t necessarily tie it into all four parts of STAR. It just seems a bit rigid and definitely takes some of the natural flow out of an interview.

Who is actually hiring for the OMs at each warehouse? Is it a manager onsite? Is it a manager in the region somewhere or based out of another state?

I have passed the assessment test and now want to show more initiative and try to connect with the hiring manager and just drop off resume and formally introduce myself. Surely the head manager at the warehouse has some say in the hiring process correct?

Question for men out there. Do you seem to have better luck with male or female recruiters? Seems like a lot of female recruiters are like robots and get nervous the moment they come across a male applicant with a lot of experience.

My 9 month run trying to get on with Carvana

I just sent the below email to VP of People Operations at Carvana, Adrienne Sanford. I feel like I've been given the run around for nine months trying to get a job with them. I have a solid automotive background being a former GM at Copart, an online auto auction for 15 years. If anyone could help refer me, it'd be greatly appreciated. I just want to get my foot in the door even if it's entry level and then prove myself, but feel like it's just becoming impossible.

Hi Adrienne,

I’ve been working with Audrey Murrell regarding career opportunities in Central Florida, specifically at the Haines City and Sanford locations. I’ve attempted to reconnect with her over the past two weeks but have not received a response, so I wanted to reach out to you directly for assistance and clarity on my candidacy.

To provide some background, I initially applied last fall for a Logistics Manager role in Haines City and was contacted by Nichole Holtz for an initial screening. After my first interview, I was encouraged to pursue a Senior Operations Manager position and interviewed with Kevin Buscher, though I was not selected at that time.

This past January, I reapplied when the role was reposted and was contacted by Sydney Sweigard. I was invited to travel from South Carolina to Haines City for an onsite interview, which I did at my own expense due to my strong interest in the opportunity. Following that interview, Audrey informed me that while I was not selected, the team felt I would be a strong fit for a Reconditioning Manager role and that she would keep me in mind for future openings.

In March, I also applied for a Team Lead, Market Operations position in Concord, NC, and interviewed with Jason De Le Ree, though I was not selected for that opportunity.

Since then, I have continued to apply for roles, including a Detailer position in Sanford. Despite being told by a recruiter that I was incredibly qualified for the detailer position, I was not given the opportunity to interview. More recently, I saw multiple management roles posted again in Haines City (Reconditioning Manager, Logistics Manager, and Senior Operations Manager) and attempted to reconnect with Audrey to express my continued interest, but I have not received any follow-up.

Given the time, effort, and personal investment I have made throughout this process—including traveling for an onsite interview at my own expense—I would greatly appreciate clear guidance on where I stand as a candidate and whether there are any actionable next steps I should be taking.

With over 15 years of experience as a General Manager at Copart, I bring a strong background in operations leadership, team development, and performance management. I remain very interested in joining Carvana and am open to opportunities at any level where I can contribute and grow within the organization.

If possible, I would appreciate the opportunity to connect briefly to discuss my candidacy and next steps, or alternatively, any feedback you can provide would be extremely valuable.

I have also attached my resume for your review.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response.

I applied and passed the assessment test. Application says under consideration. What are the chances I get an interview at this point?

Would it be worth it to go up to the warehouse and ask to speak to HR and just briefly formally introduce myself?

When you book with MMP at a hotel and get the MMP rate do you also have to pay the resort fee extra or is it included in the rate? What about parking at the hotel? Is that included?

If I'm hired on as a OM, how long before I'd be able to transfer via a lateral move to another location? How long before eligible for a promotion?

Also, a few benefit questions. Who does Amazon use for healthcare? What is the biweekly premium for just employee? How much PTO do you get per year? What is the 401K match? How soon after hire date do benefits start?

Hi there,

I applied to two different Operations Manager jobs. One is Operations Manager and the other is Operations Manager, OSC9.

The salary range for the Operations Manager, OSC9 is $81,900.00 - $122,800.00 and the salary range for the Operations Manager is $91,000.00 - $136,500.00.

What are the main differences between these two and why is the salary lower for the Operations Manager, OSC9?

It seems I should aim to get in as just an Operations Manager since the salary range is higher for that one.
