Am I coming on too strong, or is modern gay dating just like this?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been actively trying to find a long-term relationship for over a year now, and at this point I’m honestly starting to question my own approach more than anything else.

I’ve used pretty much every app (Grindr, Romeo, Scruff, Tinder, Hinge, even Reddit), improved my profile, go to the gym, and even paid for premium features to boost visibility.

My profiles are very clear about what I want (LTR, not hookups, not open), but I still mostly meet people who:

• want something casual

• say they want something serious but don’t act like it

• or just slowly lose interest

The biggest issue for me is the talking phase. It feels like endless texting with no real personality behind it. Planning a date often gets delayed or just never happens.

About me:

I catch a vibe pretty quickly. When I like someone, I go in with 100% energy. I ask questions, I want to really get to know the person. I’m honest, direct, open-minded, but also a bit impatient.

I’ll be real, I can get slightly jealous in the talking phase if I feel a strong vibe but know they’re still exploring other options. At the same time, if I feel low effort, I lose interest fast.

So now I’m wondering:

Do I need to change something about my communication style or how I approach dating?

Am I maybe coming on too strong too early?

How do you balance showing genuine interest without overinvesting too quickly?

I’m honestly just looking for something a bit more old-fashioned. Going on actual dates, building something real, without jumping straight into fun or open dynamics.

Also curious:

What actually makes a profile stand out for something serious?

Are there better ways or places, even here on Reddit, to meet people looking for something real, especially in Switzerland?

Would really appreciate honest thoughts or experiences.
