TO BE EUTHANIZED 5/21/26
“I don’t understand where my life went. One day I was curled up with my sister, listening to my dad breathe while we all slept close together, and the next… everything was gone. I keep trying to remember the sound of his voice, the way he lifted me when I got scared, the way my sister bumped her head against mine when she wanted to play. I keep wishing I could go back to that time — before the car ride, before the strange building, before the door closed behind him and I couldn’t follow. Before he was sick, then homeless, and unable to care for us the way he wanted too. He cried, we cried, we huddled together before they took my sister away, before he carried me close to his heart to my kennel. Now I stay very still in the back of this kennel because if I don’t move, maybe the world will stop changing. Maybe someone will come for me the way he used to. I’m only 10 months old (says my dad!) but I feel so much older now.

They try to take me out, but my legs won’t work. My body shakes and I press myself into the floor because I don’t know these people, and I don’t know this place, and I don’t know how to be brave without my family. I don’t mean to be difficult. I’m not trying to push anyone away. I’m just scared — scared in a way that makes my chest tight and my paws cold. When they lift me, I freeze. When they set me down, I hide. I’m not broken. I’m not mean. I’m just a boy who lost everything too fast. If someone gentle could give me time, I remember how to love. I remember how to be playful. I remember how to be me. I just need someone to see past the shaking and the silence and realize that I’m still in here, waiting for a hand that feels like home again.”

Please save my life. If you are an experienced foster or adopter, message the DLM page for assistance.

Queens ACC, Medium Mixed Breed, Gray/White
Owner Surrender Reason: 5/12/26 – Owner Homeless

I CAME TO THE SHELTER WITH MY SIBLING, CHARISMA (ALREADY PLACED WITH A RESCUE): https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1403810095113846&set=a.1392670329561156

AT RISK MEMO:
Rocky Road is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Rocky Road has not acclimated well to the shelter environment and has not allowed for handling. He remains highly fearful, shut down, and avoidant of interaction. When attempting to remove Rocky Road from his kennel, he will refuse to walk, baulking in the kennel. Once out of the kennel, he attempts to find a hiding spot, away from handlers. In his previous home, Rocky Road was described as a friendly and affectionate dog once he gets to know people. Medically, Rocky Road has diarrhea and dental disease.

Rocky Road came into the care center with his sibling due to his own not being able to come for them anymore due to their health concerns. His previous family described her as affectionate and playful once warmed up after some time. He prefers to interact with people when he is ready and it will take a while. During his stay in care, Rocky Road has been highly fearful and shut down. He refuses to leave his kennel or walk, moving to the corner of his kennel, trembling, and begins thrashing before freezing in place once leashed. Due to these concerns, we recommend that Rocky Road be placed in an adult-only home through a New Hope rescue partner that can give him the time and space to decompress and acclimate at his own pace. He will likely need further socialization sessions under the guidance of a certified professional trainer who utilizes force-free, reward-only based methods once he has had ample time to adjust to a new home environment.

INTAKE NOTES – Date of Intake: 12-May-2026
Upon intake, Rocky Road was stiff and hypersalivating while in the wait room. When attempt to bring back to medical he would not walk on the leash, his owner also stated he does not walk well on the leash even with him (walked into QACC holding Rocky Road in his arms). Rocky Road thrashed and pancaked; he refused to walk. Staff then got him on top of a flat bed and rolled back to medical, during this Rocky Road did not move and had a stiff body. Staff had to lift him off of the flatbed as well in order to get him off.

OWNER SURRENDER NOTES – BASIC INFORMATION:
Rocky Road is a 10-month year old male dog that lived with his previous owner for 8 months and was surrendered along with his sibling due to his owner becoming homeless. Rocky Road lived with adults and other dogs. He is nervous around new people and prefers contact on his own terms. Rocky Road has no experience with children. Rocky Road has no experience with other dogs, he has only met/lived with his sibling. Rocky Road has no experience with cats. Rocky Road does not resource guard. He has no bite history. Rocky is partially housetrained. His energy level is high.

Other Notes:
Rocky Road does not have much experience with doing outside so he does not walk on a leash without pancaking. Rocky Road is partially potty trained to use wee wee pads but will have accidents on items left on the floor from time to time. He has never been in a car or a crate before. Rocky Road is very fearful in new environments and around new people.

Has this dog ever had any medical issues?: No

🚨URGENT RESCUE NEEDED FOR LUNA 🚨#A2785959 needs rescue, foster, or experienced adopter ASAP 💔

LUNA is a 57-pound Terrier mix currently struggling in the shelter environment at Miami-Dade Animal Services. Shelter notes describe her as fearful and highly stressed, though staff have recently observed small signs of improvement. She is still reactive at the kennel barrier and startles easily with sudden movements, but she is reportedly becoming “a little less fearful.” 🐾

Because of her fear and stress, staff must use a lasso technique to safely take her out for walks. Once outside, Luna remains cautious but manageable when handled calmly and gently. Shelter notes also indicate she is no longer “alligator rolling,” showing that she is slowly decompressing despite the overwhelming shelter environment.

Luna is currently on behavioral support medications and urgently needs a quiet, patient environment where she can finally feel safe and continue healing. The shelter specifically notes she would benefit from rescue, foster placement, enrichment, and regular outings away from the kennel stress.

This girl does not need more fear or punishment — she needs patience, understanding, and a chance. 🙏

1yr old Barbara is on 5/19 euthanasia deadline 🚨 NYC Shelter 🚨

TO BE KILLED MAY 19, 2026

Some dogs are born easy. Others need guidance, structure, consistency, and people willing to actually put time into them.

Barbara deserved that chance.

Instead, this affectionate, social girl ended up surrendered and thrown into one of the most stressful environments imaginable. Honestly, it’s heartbreaking because once she settled in, staff saw a completely different dog than the one described at intake.

Now she enjoys petting, walks easily, loves car rides, and has warmed up beautifully to people around her. That tells you everything about who Barbara really is underneath the stress and labels.

She’s not a lost cause. She’s a dog who needed leadership, patience, and someone willing to work with her instead of giving up when things became inconvenient.

At the shelter, she’s trying her best to adapt while the clock works against her.

💛 A loyal, affectionate dog paying the price for human inconsistency.

📩 New Hope placement required — please message to foster or adopt.

BARBARA 251536 MANHATTAN ACC
Estimated to be 1 year 7 mos old, 46 Lbs.
UNALTERED FEMALE, MEDIUM MIXED BREED
OWNER SURR FROM NY, AGGRESSIVE TOWARDS OTHER ANIMALS
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
BEHAVIOR RATING: NH ONLY
INTAKE DATE: 04/11/2026

How is this dog around children?: Friendly and outgoing, playful, tolerant.

How is this dog around other dogs?: Friendly and outgoing, playful, tolerant with familiar dogs. Hard barks/growls at unfamiliar dogs.

How is this dog around cats?: Hard barks/growls, lunges, snaps, bites.

Housetrained: Partially

Energy level/descriptors: medium

Other Notes: Barbara tends to pull hard on the leash and will try to chase birds or dogs. Lunges and barks at small animals or other dogs.

Has this dog ever had any medical issues?: No

For a New Family to Know: Barbara is a social and affectionate dog! She can usually be found where the people are. She loves to sleep on soft things- including inside her crate. According to a prior owner, she is a "lap dog who sleeps a lot on you." She is used to spending up to 8 hours in her crate. Barbara allows for bathing, brushing, and nail trimming but she hates running water. She is used to going on 2-40 minute walks 1-4 times per day and pulls pretty strong on the leash. Barbara loves car rides and knows many commands including sit and wait. According to a prior owner, Barbara is "extremely affectionate, very cuddly, and eager to please! She loves to tear up plushies, squeakers, and crinkly toys."

Barbara arrived at MACC as an owner surrender. Her previous owner describes her as social and affectionate. It is reported that Barbara is a universal resource guarder and will escalate to growling, hard barking, snapping, and attempting to bite when items are in her possession. Barbara will also lunge, bark, and growl at
people and dogs while on leash. Due to the detailed behavior we recommend an experienced adult only home.

Upon intake: Barbara at first accepted all handling but then seemingly suddenly began to lunge, growl, and bark at Staff after they gave her a treat, were petting her, and were talking to prior owner. Barbara then began to bark and lunge at a dog passing by. Once left alone for a bit of time Barbara calmed down and again allowed all handling. Canine Behavior was asked to help just in case. Barbara was leashed and walked to kennel without issue.

Recommendations comments: No children (under 13): Due to her on leash reactivity, and universal resource guarding we recommend an adult only home.

No Cats: Due to hard barking, growling, lunging, snapping, and attempting to bite cats, we recommend a home with no cats.

No Dog Parks: Due to on leash reactivity we recommend no trips to the dog park.

We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.

Potential challenges:
Resource guarding,
Fearful,
On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,
Strength/leash pulling

Potential challenges comments:

Resource Guarding: Barbara's previous owner states that she universally resource guards and will hard bark, growl, snap, or attempt to bite while items are in her possession. During her assessment Barbara was observed to become extremely tense while in the possession of a toy. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Barbara's mouth, and any time something is removed they should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. Please see handout on Resource Guarding.

Fearful: Barbara has been observed to be very fearful while in care, noted to balk on leash and head while when handler initiate contact. They should never be forced to approach anything that they are uncomfortable with or submit to petting or handling. It should always be their choice to approach a new person or thing. Barbara would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to their new surroundings. Please see handout on Decompression Period.

On Leash Reactivity: Barbara's previous owner states that she lunges and barks at small animals and other dogs. During intake Barbara was observed to lunge, bark, and growl towards staff and other dogs. Barbara will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than dogs and other stimuli. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration.

Leash Pulling: Barbara's previous owner states that she pulls hard while on leash. It is recommended that they be walked on a front clip harness or head halter, which will help diminish their strength through leverage, and that they be trained using positive reinforcement, reward based training to not pull on leash. Please see handout on Leash Manners.

IN GRAVE DANGER - EUTH COMMAND

“I’m Charisma… though right now I know that name doesn’t seem to fit me. I used to be different — playful, cuddly, always pressed against my person because that’s where I felt safe. But then everything changed. My parent got sick, then lost our home, and the day we said goodbye I cried into their shirt while they cried into my fur. I didn’t understand why we couldn’t stay together. I still don’t. I just know they loved me, and I loved them, and then suddenly I was alone.

Here in the shelter I’m so scared that my whole body shakes. I hide in the corner of my kennel because it’s the only place that feels small enough to hold all my fear. When people try to take me out, I panic — my legs won’t move, my body freezes, and sometimes I thrash because I don’t know what else to do. I’m not trying to be difficult. I’m just a ten‑month‑old puppy who lost everything and doesn’t know how to be brave yet.

But underneath all this trembling is the real me — the girl who loves to cuddle, who follows her people from room to room, who gives soft kisses and wiggles when she trusts you. I’m playful with dogs I know, gentle with the people I love, and I want so badly to feel safe again. I just need time… time to decompress, time to learn the world isn’t ending, time to remember that I’m still a puppy with a whole life ahead of me.

The shelter says I’m “not acclimating,” and now I’m on the list to die. I don’t want my story to end here. I don’t want my parent — wherever they are, probably still struggling — to find out that I am gone forever. I want a quiet, patient, adult home where someone will kneel beside me, speak softly, and let me come forward when I’m ready. Someone who sees past the shaking and understands that fear is not who I am — it’s just what happened to me.

Please… I’m only ten months old. I’m healthy. I’m loving. I’m trying. I just need someone to save my life and give me the chance to become the dog my name promises.”

Experienced fosters and adopters, we need you to step up for this baby girl who did nothing wrong. She’s lost it all, the parent she loved, the home she felt safe and loved in, and now she may lose her own life. It’s unfair. MESSAGE OUR PAGE to save her life now.

CHARISMA, Id 252611, @10 Mos. Old, 54 lbs., Female
Queens ACC, Medium Mixed Breed, Gray/White
Owner Surrender Reason: 5/5/26 – Owner Homeless

AT RISK MEMO:
Charisma is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Charisma has been highly fearful and shut down during her stay in care, despite best efforts to keep her comfortable. In her previous home she is describe to enjoy being close to her people, playful, and an affectionate dog. In care, she refuses to leave her kennel and thrashes intensely once leashed. Charisma was also reported to display similar behaviors during her intake and refused to walk to her kennel. Medically, Charisma is apparently healthy.

She will likely need further socialization sessions under the guidance of a certified professional trainer who utilizes force-free, reward-only based methods once she has had ample time to adjust to a new home environment.

No children (under 13)

No children (under 13): Due to Charisma's intense, fearful and shut-down behaviors, we recommend an adult-only home as she may be intimidated by children.

Place with a New Hope partner: Charisma has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.

Potential challenges:
House soiling
Resource guarding
Handling/touch sensitivity
Fearful
Anxiety
On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration

Potential challenges comments:

House soiling: Charisma is reported to have accidents on a weekly basis in her previous home. Please see the handout on House soiling.

Resource guarding: Charisma is reported to guard her food, hovering over it with a tense body. Please see the handout on resource guarding.

Handling/touch sensitivity | Fearful: Charisma has been highly fearful and shutdown during her stay in care. She moves to a corner of her kennel when handlers attempt to leash her, thrashing once leashed, and refuses to leave her kennel or walk once out. Her previous owner stated that she did not allow any form of grooming, including nail trims. And she was fearful when restrained and when her collar is grabbed. Please see handouts on Decompression period and Handling/touch sensitivity.

Anxiety: Charisma is reported to be anxious in the previuos home, but her owner did not elaborate on how this behavior manifested or if any steps were taken to modify these behaviors. If Charisma displays anxious behavior in her future home, we recommend puzzle toys, long walks, and giving her other things to focus on to alleviate her anxiety. Mel A1282776

32 pounds

Spayed Female

Stray found on 3/24 at MELINDA LN, DALLAS TX 75217

Adopets Link: https://adopt.adopets.com/pet/d320b1b4-4d13-461e-8fa3-7c96ff3c5046

Meet Mel, a sweet and playful 6-month-old pup who is looking for a loving family to call her own. While she is full of puppy affection, this resilient little girl is currently not feeling her best and is dealing with a probable foreign body obstruction. Mel needs a dedicated home who can immediately provide the further diagnostics and veterinary care that we are unable to provide in the shelter.

Medical

5/15: Vomiting and defecating fabric in foster's home.

Pink tacky mm, CRT = 4 secs, tenses abdomen on palpation, hypermotile gut, QAR. Sedated for rads.

Rads- probable foreign body/bodies in stomach. Keep in treatment for observation and repeat rads tomorrow a.m.

05/14/26 09:52 worms in stool noted. Also had long stringy material pulled from rectum (possibly fabric? seems less likely to be worms). P was vomiting fabric overnight. She appears to have eaten this morning.

P: Scheduling foster for drop off in the morning if issues are ongoing or foster may return P.

3/24: Adoption Exam Completed

DA2PP given SQ in RF leg; Bordetella given intranasally

Flea and Heartworm Prevention given; Pyrantel given PO

Microchip Implanted

Shelter Observation

3/25 A bit shy, but able to hold/handle, does not walk on leash

5/8: BAr, shy, nuetral stance, not interested in treats, calm and allows pets but does not really seek interaction, walks well on leash

Volunteer Observation

4/3 Neutral

Warms Up;Disinterested in Pets/Cuddles

Mel approached the kennel door when I approached, but when I went in, she retreated to the other side. Was just a bit too nervous to interact with me but I think with a few visits she will open up

4/9: Timid

Warms Up

Mel and her sister fish are adorable, but very scared in the Shelter. I was able to get her outside by carrying, but was still very nervous and just sat in the corner. She does open up with treats and allows pets, but would benefit from getting out of the shelter in a more common environment

5/2: Avoidant/Fearful

Good Manners;Treat Motivated

Calm and Relaxed Body;Avoiding Eye Contant

Warms Up;Waits Calmly for Attention

She was shy and backed away when I entered but as soon as she saw the treats she came to me, allowing me to pet her, she’s sweet, just a little shy

5/10: Easy Going

Puppy Manners

Social (Dogs);Social (People);Loose/Wiggly Body

Wants to Run;Wants to Play;Wants to Cuddle

Mel is such a chill little girl who still has some puppy manners, but is overall a great dog. She tried to nip me while running and was a bit unsure of how to run straight but didn't pull on the leash. She gave kisses, was a bit vocal before the run started, but overall was easy to handle and is a great dog.

Daycation 4/28:

How did your dog do in the car? Eh, I tolerate riding in the car

Which of the following activities did the dog enjoy? Going on a walk, Lounging around an apartment / house

How did they interact with strangers? I take some time to warm up to new people

If they saw any cats, how did they react? None

If they saw any other dogs, how did they react? Very excited. Only time she barked.

If they met any children, how did they react? No

How did I walk on the leash? (Examples: excited/pulling/timid/awesome walker)She is very new at it. She did better the second time. She just needs more practice. She stopped anytime. She saw people, but wasn’t nervous. She would start to run if she saw other dogs if she wanted to see them.

How were my manners and do I know any tricks? Puppy Manners, Good manners, Learns Quickly

Did they show any of the additional behaviors listed below? Calms down, Warms up (timid at first), Wants to cuddle

The best part of my Daycation was when.......She was very timid and nervous about coming into a house. It may have been her first time. Seeing her lie down and take a nap and be comfortable was great.

Any additional notes you would like to include about the dog? She is a very shy girl, but wants to be with people. I quickly gained her trust. She wanted to be near me, but was nervous around new experiences. I was able to pick her up and carry her when she came to a stop and she was totally fine with that. I think she’ll be a quick learner when she has the opportunity to live in a house full-time. Very sweet girl who is gentle.

9yr old Dasher is on euthanasia risk at anytime as of 5/15 urgent 🚨 San Antonio, Texas 🚨 ACS Shelter ‼️ out of state adoption possible

🚨 9 YEARS OLD. COUGHING IN THE SHELTER. STILL TRYING TO PLAY. AT RISK FRI 5/15 💔🐾

🐾 DASHER – #A805177
📍 San Antonio Animal Care Services
📍 Kennel S4401

• Male
• ~9 years old
• American Staffordshire Terrier mix
• 40 lbs
• 💔 17 days at shelter
• ⚠️ At risk since 5/14
• 🚨 Euthanasia listed for 5/15 without confirmed placement

Dasher is a senior boy who should be sleeping on a couch…

Not fighting kennel stress and coughing in a shelter 💔

Despite being 9 years old, the notes describe him as:

🩵 Friendly with handlers
🩵 Easy to leash and walk
🩵 Social with male & female dogs
🩵 Playful and engaging in yard
🩵 Loose body and wagging tail

He’s still trying to interact
Still trying to play
Still trying to enjoy life
Even while stuck in a loud overcrowded kennel

His biggest issue?

He gets overexcited with other dogs and doesn’t always respect their space or communication cues

That’s something structure, decompression, and proper introductions can help with outside the shelter environment

Now he’s also developed:

⚠️ Nonproductive cough
⚠️ Presumptive infectious tracheobronchitis (kennel cough)

And senior dogs decline HARD in shelter settings once illness starts setting in

Dasher has already spent over 2 weeks there

That’s a long time for an older dog in this environment 💔

🏡 Dasher needs:

✔️ Foster
✔️ Rescue
✔️ Adopter
✔️ Medical decompression
✔️ Slow dog introductions
✔️ A place to finally rest

🚨 PLEASE SHARE/SAVE DASHER 🚨

Senior dogs are overlooked every single day

But this boy is still wagging his tail and asking for affection

IN GRAVE DANGER - EUTH COMMAND

*** $500 STIPEND IS AVAILABLE TO THE NEW HOPE PARTNER THAT PULLS ANGEL
When Angel’s family suffered housing issues and allergies, he was sent to the shelter. Given his animal id, we believe he is a return so this would not be his first stay in the shelter. But at 7 years old, he expected that his situation would last forever, enjoying the love and care of his family. Now, only less than a week in, he is suffering what a lot of family pets suffer – the absolute heartbreak of losing everything he ever cared about and loved. Angel was a friendly, affectionate and devoted friend to his family and loved to spend his days playing with his stuffed animals, chew toys and his frisbee. He was looking forward to the holidays and opening his gifts and enjoying the joy and laughter of the people around him. Now he lives in a tiny pop up crate, trying so hard to get noticed. He has no idea what will happen to him next. He dreams of home. We know that he would absolutely flourish if he were back in a family home and so, despite not having all his notes yet, we are asking you share him far and wide for a family. If you are an experienced foster or adopter who can take him in, hurry and MESSAGE OUR PAGE for assistance.

A VOLUNTEER WRITES:
"Angel jumps into Santa’s lap and stays there for the duration of our time outside with him. He relishes some time out of the pop up crate he’s been housed in for the last 2 and a half weeks. There, he takes our treats gently and listens to us talk about how he indeed embodies his name, a real angel on earth. A sweet and gentle cherub indeed.

Angel has a four-year history with the shelter in which his guardian has had to make the difficult decision to surrender him on multiple occasions due to personal life adversities. Angel lived with 2 adults and a 5 year old child. He likes to follow his owners from room to room in the house. He is crate trained and well behaved when left home alone. He’s friendly and affectionate and likes to play with balls, stuffed animals and squeaky toys. He has been reactive to both dogs and cats on walks. Angel is hoping Santa has brought him some luck and his new family sees him soon. He is approx. 7 years old, 56 pounds and his ID is #128825.

THIS ANGEL ON EARTH HAS A REEL THE VOLUNTEERS MADE HIM. PLEASE CONSIDER GIVING THIS SWEET BOY A HOME! https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1BwZfuQL4a/

Meet Angel!

Since I'm a long stay pup, my adoption fee has been reduced! Visit me today to find out my favorite treats and how you can take me home!

Angel came to the shelter as an owner surrender. He is a friendly, affectionate, and sometimes playful dog who can be shy and cautious at first. He enjoys toys of all kinds-including balls, squeaky toys, chew toys, stuffed animals, and frisbees-and loves following his humans around the home. Angel is crate-trained, partially house-trained, and responds well to gentle guidance and treats.

Angel is a thoughtful and observant pup in our Shelter Scholars program, where he's working to manage on-leash reactivity and stay more connected during outings. With handler engagement techniques and positive reinforcement, Angel is building the tools he needs to respond calmly and confidently. His steady improvement highlights his strong potential.

My Ideal Home
Angel would do best in an adult-only home with a calm, predictable environment. He needs an experienced adopter who understands fearful or reactive dogs and can provide consistent, positive training. Daily exercise, interactive toys, and patience will help Angel feel safe and confident. He should be the only pet in the household.

Good with Kids?
No - Angel is best in a home without children under 13. He needs a calm environment and gentle handling.

Good with Other Pets?
No - Angel has shown reactivity toward other dogs and cats, lunging and barking when he sees them on walks. He should be the only pet in the home.

Leash Manners
Angel pulls strongly on the leash and can hard bark, lunge, or show teeth at other dogs and cats. He benefits from a front-clip harness, structured walks, and desensitization exercises. Calm, predictable walks with consistent reinforcement are important for his confidence.

Behavior Determination
Experienced Adopters - Angel requires a patient, knowledgeable home to manage his fear, leash reactivity, and sensitivity to handling.

Other Fun Facts
Angel is highly food-motivated, making training with treats very effective. He enjoys interactive play and can spend hours content in his crate. With slow introductions and consistent guidance, Angel can become a loyal, loving companion.

12/3 (BA; late entry): Angel is lying down in his crate when a handler approaches. He comes forward with coaxing and takes small pieces of treats. His body is tense and tail semi-tucked. Moving slowly, the handler leashes Angel, but he flinches and tucks into himself when the ring makes contact with his neck. Angel readily exits the kennel and is walked to the behavior office for his assessment. Angel stays in close proximity to the handler, although remains wary, only approaching some distance when offered jerky. A second handler moves slowly while the other continues to feed Angel treats during collaring. Once on a drag leash, Angel maintains his tense body and distance from the handlers, lingering near the doors. Due to his fearfulness, a handling assessment is not attempte,d and he is returned to his crate.

Recommendations::
No children (under 13),
No cats,
Single-pet home,
Recommend no dog parks

Recommendations comments::

No children (under 13): We recommend he be placed in an adult-only home at this time.

No cats: According to information we received by previous owner(s), Angel will lunge at cats while on walks. We recommend he be placed in a home without cats and/or any small animals.

Single-pet home/Recommend no dog parks: Due to Angel's history towards other dogs and behavior in care, we recommend he goes to a home without other dogs and does not visit dog parks.

Potential challenges: :
Handling/touch sensitivity,
Fearful,
On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,
Strength/leash pulling,
Other,
Bite history (dog)

Potential challenges comments::

Handling/touch sensitivity/Fearful:Angel barks or growls when startled and is fearful when his collar is grabbed, indicating handling sensitivity and low tolerance for sudden contact. Training should focus on cooperative care and desensitization, starting with pairing gentle collar touches with high-value treats and gradually increasing duration. Avoid sudden movements and use consent cues to build predictability and trust. Please see the handout on Handling/touch sensitivity/decompression period.

Other/Bite history (dog):When Angel got loose in the Care Centers, he bit another dog but did not break skin. Please see the handout on Bite History.

On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Angel’s owner reports that he hard barks, lunges, and sometimes shows teeth when he sees other dogs on walks, and he also lunges at cats. This behavior suggests frustration and possible fear-based reactivity. Training should include counter-conditioning and desensitization to dogs and cats at a safe distance, reinforcing calm engagement with the handler. Use management tools like a front-clip harness and structured exits to prevent rehearsal of reactive behaviors. Please see the handout On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration.

Strength/leash pulling:Angel pulls very hard on leash, requiring loose-leash walking training and appropriate equipment (e.g., front-clip harness). Use stop-and-go or direction-change techniques and reinforce slack in the leash. Incorporate impulse control exercises before walks to reduce pulling. Please see the handout on Strength/leash pulling.

💔12 year old Gracie lost her home because owners “don’t have time anymore.”

After more than a decade of life, this senior cattle dog was walked into a shelter and left behind alongside 2 year old Marley (posted separately) like neither one meant nothing at all.

And the fear in her eyes is absolutely heartbreaking.

Her eyes are wide and bulging with panic as she tries to take in everything happening around her. She’s literally frozen with fear. The barking. The smell. The slamming kennel doors. The strangers. You can see how overwhelmed she is, like she’s desperately trying to understand why she’s here after spending 12 years believing she belonged somewhere.

The only information her owners gave?
She’s kid friendly.

Nothing about what she likes, her routines, or the life she lived before this. Just a senior dog discarded when she became inconvenient.

At her age, this environment is especially cruel.

Senior dogs shut down and get sick fast in places like this. The concrete floors are hard on their bodies. The stress weakens them physically and emotionally. Every day in a kennel feels heavier when you’re old, scared, and grieving the life you just lost.

Hoping someone will see past the gray on her face and realize she still deserves a family too.

After 12 years of loyalty, Gracie deserved comfort and security in her senior years..

Not heartbreak and a ☠️ sentence.
