34F, severe obesity, trying to decide whether to TTC now or wait

Almost 35 with BMI 63. Looking for honest OB/GYN insight on TTC vs waiting.

I’m 34, 5’4 and about 365 pounds with lipedema as my main health condition. I’m currently on Zepbound and actively working on my health with a nutritionist, therapist, and mindset therapy for food.

My husband strongly feels we should wait to try for a baby until I lose a significant amount of weight. I understand the risks associated with pregnancy at my size and know pregnancy would likely be safer and easier at a lower weight, but I’m also very concerned about continuing to delay children at almost 35.

I’m planning to establish care with an OB/GYN soon and discuss this, but I wanted honest medical perspectives from doctors or women who have been through this.

At what point do OB/GYNs typically recommend trying vs waiting for weight loss? Is there realistically a point where age/fertility concerns begin outweighing waiting for ideal health improvements?

I’m not looking for sugarcoating, but I am hoping for realistic and compassionate insight rather than shame. I’m already actively working on my health and trying to make the best decision possible for my future family.

Almost 35 with BMI 63: wait or start trying?

A doctor focused subreddit will probably respond better to something a little shorter, more direct, and more medically focused like this:

Morbidly obese and wanting a baby… how did you decide when to start trying?

I’m looking for insight from women who have actually been in my shoes.

I’m almost 35, 5’4 and about 365 pounds (BMI around 63). My main health issue is lipedema. I’m currently on Zepbound, working with a nutritionist, a mindset therapist for food, and my regular therapist.

My husband feels very strongly that we should wait until I lose weight and get healthier before trying for a baby. Part of me agrees because I know pregnancy would likely be easier and safer at a lower weight, but I’m also terrified of continuing to put off having children because of my age. I don’t even know if we can get pregnant, and waiting years feels overwhelming.

I’m really looking for honest experiences from women with very high BMIs who either:

• decided to wait and lose weight first

• decided to start trying anyway

• got pregnant unexpectedly at a high weight

• worked with supportive or unsupportive doctors

What were your pregnancies actually like? How were you treated by OBs? Did you regret waiting or not waiting?

If anyone was also on Zepbound/Mounjaro/Wegovy before trying, I’d love to hear how that process went too.

Please be kind. I’m already working on my health and genuinely trying to make the best decision for my future family.

Fellow high bmi ladies obese and terrified of waiting too long for motherhood

I’m looking for insight from women who have actually been in my shoes.

I’m almost 35, 5’4 and about 365 pounds (BMI around 63). My main health issue is lipedema. I’m currently on Zepbound, working with a nutritionist, a mindset therapist for food, and my regular therapist. I know I cannot stay on Zepbound while trying to conceive or during pregnancy.

My husband feels very strongly that we should wait until I lose weight and get healthier before trying. Part of me agrees because I know pregnancy would likely be easier and safer at a lower weight, but I’m also terrified of continuing to put off having children because of my age.
