Is “stopping the boats” worth losing the rights that protect your family and your job?

I’m reposting this because I realized my last attempt was a bit too "shouty." I’m honestly just worried about where we’re heading, but I’d rather have a proper chat than a row. We all want a better version of Britain. I just think there are some massive risks in the Reform platform that aren't getting enough airtime.

Looking at the chaos in the US with the MAGA movement, I’m genuinely scared of that style of politics landing here. Labour is already tightening up legal immigration by changing the salary thresholds and social care recruitment. We have to ask: what are we actually gaining with Reform, and what are we giving up?

I get the frustration with the Channel crossings. But let’s be real: Brexit actually killed the "Dublin" agreements that let us send people back to France. We lost our seat at that table, and France isn't exactly lining up to do us any favours now.

And honestly? Every community has "bad seeds," including white British people. But the news only zooms in on one group. I genuinely want to ask: if every boat stopped tomorrow, would your gas bill go down? Would your life actually improve? Because while we’re looking at the coast, Reform is looking at scrapping the laws that protect you.

The scary part of the Reform plan isn’t the borders. It’s their aim to bin the Equalities Act and the Human Rights Act. They are the only things stopping an employer or the government from walking all over you.

If those acts go, think about what we lose:

  • At Work: Employers could legally "fire and rehire" or pass you over for a promotion just because of your age, a disability, or even because you’re pregnant.
  • PIP & Universal Credit: These aren't guaranteed by luck. They’re tied to your rights as a citizen. If the government removes the legal obligation to protect your dignity and your "right to life," they don’t have to pay you a penny.
  • Your Privacy: These laws are what stop the state from poking its nose into your private family life.

If a government can just delete these rights, we aren't a democracy anymore. We’re moving toward the way things are done in places like Russia or North Korea, where the "little guy" has zero power.

We all know politicians tell tall tales. But Nigel Farage and Richard Tice are millionaires. They don’t need the Equalities Act to make sure they get treated fairly at work or to keep their healthcare. The rest of us do.

The local council elections were a massive wake-up call. Let’s not trade 70 years of our hard-earned freedoms for a 30-second soundbite about the Channel. We can want change without voting away our own protection.

Reform voters what is wrong with you?

EDIT: I’ve realized my original post here came across a bit more bullish than I intended. I’m genuinely interested in a proper discussion about the policies rather than a shouting match, so I’ve rewritten my points more clearly in a new post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskBrits/comments/1ta0jxp/is_stopping_the_boats_worth_losing_the_rights/

I am going to keep the post here but I have read through the comments and realise how I came across so I am up for trying again but more of a discussion (hopefully)

Sorry for the long rant but here I go lol. I know that nearly all reform voters are like sheep and will follow a wolf into their den thinking that it's a safe place but after seeing what has been happening in the USA with MAGA and Trump you still want this? Labour has actually tightened up LEGAL immigration so now what?

You want to stop the Boats? Well Brexit did not help because why would France help with that, if they want to come here they can and it is not ideal and yes you do get bad seeds from everywhere including white British people, it's just that the news will focus more on immigrants doing illegal things.

In all honesty how has immigration directly affected you as a reform voter? Can you genuinely say that your life will improve if the boats stopped tomorrow?

Now what could directly affect you is if Reform remove the equalities act and human rights act. People will literally be able to say we don't want to hire you because your disabled, not a certain race also PIP will stop and likely universal credits too because there is no human right act so why should you have a right to live?

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender reassignment
  • Marriage and civil partnership
  • Pregnancy and maternity
  • Race (including nationality and ethnic origin)
  • Religion or belief
  • Sex
  • Sexual orientation
  • Article 2: Right to life.
  • Article 3: Freedom from torture and inhuman treatment.
  • Article 6: Right to a fair trial.
  • Article 8: Right to respect for private and family life.
  • Article 10: Freedom of expression.
  • Article 14: Protection from discrimination only in relation to your other human

These all disappear with the human rights act and equalities act.

We all want change but this is not the way to do it. Luckily these are only council elections, if these were general this would turn to anarchy.

We know all politicians are liars, but some are definitely worse than others. Farage is wealthy, he does not give a crap about the people. Countries who do not have the above acts in place (or don't follow them) Cuba, North Korea, Russia etc...If that's how you want to live move to one of those.

EDIT: For those of you who read the full the full post and are saying this is a democracy etc. Yes it is and be glad it is, if Reform win the general election and abolish those 2 acts it WILL NO LONGER BE A DEMOCRACY!!! If all they did was enforce their immigration policy we would not care but its the rest of it.

I'm 38 now and every time i have been through therapy its always the same conclusion that i had trauma as a child and growing up with a narcissistic mother. Not only did she beat the shit out of me she would give me the silent treatment for 2-3 days and at the time i was 7 or 8 years old. Even after saying i was sorry sliding notes under her locked door she kept silent...she was also a heavy drinker at least a bottle of wine a night, she would accuse me sometimes of drinking it i was 8 ffs.

Best one was when she convinced a psychologist i had ADHD and they put me on Ritalin and when i was falling asleep in class i got in trouble at home because those pills are supposed to calm down a hyperactive person..

I don't know if that still affects me in the back of my mind

Anyway those are a few of the things she did, i left as soon as i turned 18, I've had bad depression for the last 10 years and i want it to get better, it has been getting worse, i am not a suicidal person but these thoughts are now coming into my head and i don't know what to do...

I have a Samsung S26U and i have tried to use gmail but i really do not like it. Is there a good email app that i can add gmail, outlook and an exchange email? I saw bluemail but the reviews seem mixed

Coming from a different ecosystem where wireless sessions never failed, my new S26U is struggling with persistent connectivity. It seems particularly sensitive in environments with high device density (traffic, stoplights), leading me to believe there’s a signal crosstalk issue at play.

Even a physical data link doesn't always override the wireless drop-out, sometimes refusing to initialize a wired session entirely. I've already adjusted developer parameters for the wireless radio and disabled background scanning, but the instability remains. Is there a specific protocol setting for the S26 range that improves signal locking in crowded environments?

I’ve recently transitioned from a seamless iOS setup to the S26 Ultra and I'm observing some specific behaviour regarding wireless connectivity stability. While previous sessions on other platforms were rock-solid, the S26U experiences intermittent session drops that appear to correlate with high-traffic areas or proximity to other active transmitters.

Found a photo of my first car. What a car, the radiator pissed itself for years to the point where I didn't even put coolant in it, the speedo did not work so I had to use waze and had 120k miles on it when I finally traded it in.
