Restoring these KL888’s

Update: measured the midrange dust caps and they seem to be 50mm, the tweeter cap is 15mm, I managed to remove the broken cap from the tweeter so that is one less thing to worry about.

Can’t wait to redo the crossovers, they sound pretty okay to be honest, but they would sound better with an EQ and proper amplifier.

I just gotten my hands on 2 sets of ‘Kabuki’ speakers.
The Sansui SP-X11000, and Kenwood KL888D’s.

The Sansui’s are spotless, the Kenwoods need a little love though.

All drivers work, so does the switch.

What bothers me is both the dust cap of the mid range (will be replaced)
But mainly, the woofers… they have little spots on them and want them gone.
Anyone knows what to do? Cones seem to be made of paper.

They sound very nice, so I don’t want to ruin them.

As much as I like my GLI, one thing is bothering me a lot, and especially since I’ve gotten the CarPlay system where I can actually play music.

It’s the rattling door panels in the car.
I have the Fender audio system and must say I quite like it.
It’s nothing compared to the Individual hifi in my BMW (that also doesn’t rattle by the way) but this VW Is really ruining the vibe.

It’s mainly my front door panel, but also the rears rattle at certain frequencies.

Is there any known way to fix this? It’s really bothering me.

Maybe a stupid question, but I collect old Toshiba laptops that feature the ‘Harman/Kardon’ audio systems.
My Satellite X205 and Qosmio X305 both have a multi speaker system that sound wonderful.
Sadly, I recently went a little too loud with the X205, and all woofers surrounds failed.
Lucky for me, I had a spare X205 for parts that had good speakers inside.
But my dumb ass… broke the subwoofer a second time.

The mains haven’t been cooked yet, and was wondering if anyone knows a substance that I can apply to the foam surrounds to make them less brittle.
They are still soft but are turning into goo.

If not, I have to get creative with replacing them but that is nearly impossible. Mainly to open and reseal those little boxes.

Just installed my ‘no name’ RCD330, and seems to be a good unit (flush connector, Japan capacitors and clean board)
The issue i have is that my car has a factory reverse camera, with a wide connector coming from the wiring harness.
I cannot seem to connect it to this unit, so what are my options? Go for a Chinese AV camera? The radio came with a ‘video/camera input’ cable.

I seen a couple posts about this but everyone has an aftermarket cam, mine has one integrated in the trunk, the factory radio was an RNS 315 (EU) but the car is a CA GLI.

Cheers and thanks in advance.

Since I got this car, I had a gut feeling the timing chain was due.

Long story short, I replaced it today and dayum it was stretched severely.

So bad, the tensioner was at its limit.

Must be said it was super easy to do, and in 10 hours I did the chain, clean everything along and replaced the timing cover and oil pan while I was at it.

Runs a lot smoother, like night and day difference, now I know I can go a little harder on it knowing the chain won’t shit itself.
