My understanding the brain has opioid receptors that deal with pleasure and pain. But the gut seems to have opioid receptors too and my understanding the opioid receptors are mostly for muscles movement. Where too much opioid or taking pain medication can cause constipation.
Why does the gut not have different opioid receptors than the bran? Also the lungs seem to have opioid receptors as taking pain medication can slow down breathing? Why is that? Why does the lungs not have different receptors?
