Local missing woman book thoughts
Just finished. I looked up what other people thought after the fact and saw a lot of hate actually. Tbh, I think it’s a bit much, but I also see where people are coming from.
I think it has a lot to do with the expectations you cone with. For me, here’s my thoughts: don’t go in expecting incredible writing or some huge elaborate, intricate plot. It’s solely for a thriller. Like imagine you’re watching one of those late night documentaries. That’s the kind of story you should expect. I will say though, the ending feels a bit rushed, but not enough to ruin the story by any means.
Now, one thing you should know. The story is told out of order. It honestly didn’t have to be, but I think she did that because she wanted to make it more suspenseful that it would have otherwise been. She probably just felt like doing that instead of creating more suspense through the plot.
On top of that, the POV switches between different characters (like 4 of them iirc). They’re all in 1st person, except one of them is in 2nd. I personally have a huge preference for 3rd person in books, but 1st person is bearable to me. 2nd person actually pisses me off. I really struggled to read those sections.
Overall, I’d say listen to this as an audiobook while you’re preoccupied or read it for a simple thriller, but don’t go in with massive expectations. Like I said, think of it like you’re watching one of those late night documentaries, not like you’re picking up literature.
