Home alone

There was no bacon at Tesco.
I sub'd black pudding with chorizo. There were too many beans. It was quite greasy. I liked it.

So I understand English has lots of idioms about sailing, which made me think about Spanish’ obsession about bullfighting.

Not trying to start some ethics debate, but found useful to share some of these as they are very commonly used:

  • Entrar al trapo: My fav and one of the most common. Means take the bait / react (often emotionally).
  • Torear (a alguien): to handle / dodge / manage someone with skill, often by avoiding direct confrontation. Sometimes used for dating.
  • Coger el toro por los cuernos: Take direct control of a problem / face it head-on.
  • Hasta el rabo, todo es toro: It’s not over until it’s over
  • Ver los toros desde la barrera: Watch from the sidelines (without risk)
  • Echar un capote: Lend a hand / step in to help
  • Entrar a matar: Go in for the kill.

Any other recurring themes in your mother tongue?
