Feeling green - SotN 13052026

Feeling green - SotN 13052026

Breakdown:

- Merkur 41C

- Astra Green

- PAA Peregrino

- TOBS Royal Forest

- Maggard Limes & Bergamot

To put it simply: it was okay. Something just felt off tonight...maybe it was the week off from trimming my beard, maybe it's been a long work week, maybe I need a glass of tequila...who knows? Bed was around 1:30 this morning, followed by 4 cups of coffee beginning around 6, spending some time in the heat (only hit about 82°, but our UV was an 8 so it was a miserable 82°...thank God there wasn't much humidity!) and rounding the day off with a meeting from 6-7, it was a long day, and we can blame that.

The razor and blade combo was okay tonight. I do think it had to do with mowing down a week's worth of growth on my cheeks and neck. The soap performed as TOBS normally does, but I struggled to get a decent lather. I feel like I used plenty of soap, and I dare not blame the brush...again, maybe a week threw me off. The only part I actually thoroughly enjoyed was the splash - I LOVE this stuff! I cannot recommend it enough - very much a lime scent, but with a little bit of sugar. The bergamot does tone down the lime a little bit without throwing off the citrus.

I suppose we will try again in a day or two and see how it goes. I'm tired and ready for the weekend, so maybe some rest will do me well. It's 10:30 now, so I will bid you all a good evening: Bonsoir!

First non-phal orchid

I picked this up from a nursery today where one of the employees sells some of his propagations. I know nothing about it, but I plan on calling later this afternoon when he's in to ask some questions. Any tips?

We're doing flower pots?

Mine started chipping, too, so I drilled some holes and planted flowers. Then I replaced it when Walmart put them on sale for $29!

Just when I think I'm nearly done collecting, I decide to try something new. Eton College and Astra Greens are on my list!

The Astra is SHARP! But it felt, to me, anyway, a lot smoother than Feather and Bic. This is my first time trying one, so I'll have to, ahem, gather additional evidence before committing to a stockpile, but I enjoyed it very much. I nearly got my neck again, but no blood was drawn, so I think it just tugged one or two rogue hairs.

Eton College? Very orange forward, but I love it! It's almost like Royal Forest, but quite different at the same time. Of course it lathered exceptionally well, as one would expect from Taylor of Old Bond Street, and paints beautifully on your face, leaving a heavily scented, slick, luxurious cushion for your razor. As much as I *want* to think other creams are just as good, few perform the same. It just can't be beat!

Finished off with some Nivea Sensitive to calm my skin down, because yes, I'm sensitive.

Once again, I used the Merkur 41C, and I gave the Solar Ray a go tonight. I have absolutely no complaints with this brush, and it is quite the looker! I would be remiss if I didn't tell you that it performs as nicely as it looks.

That's a night, ladies and gentlemen. I'll see you all again on Saturday evening!

I've never seen this before, so I grabbed a few packages. This one was really good! I did add a splash of Japanese soy sauce and a little bit of sesame oil, and I added some kimchi dumplings because that's what I had. Try it if you can find it!

Not quite as good as the last couple, but there are still some good deals in here.

Ground beef for $4 (even Walmart near me is $7ish)

Eggs at $1.28, avocados, BOGO pork loins (be careful - last time they were $12-14 when they were $6-7 at another local store), 2.5# frozen chicken for $7 is really good. Tbones for $13/lb in my area is good if you can afford the treat.

Good luck!

¿Qué tal?

I was talking with a contractor today and had to fumble through what I was going to say...he understood, fortunately, but in English I would have said "I was told that you were going to start yesterday". I'm just not sure how to phrase this in Spanish? Something like "Me dijó qué habrían comenzado ayer"? I really am lost with which tense to use here...(worth noting that it was someone else who told me they were to start yesterday, but it doesn't really matter here, I don't think).

I'm glad our conversation went well, and I have their plans for the next several days, but I'm a little frustrated that I'm this stumped here. Thoughts?

¡Gracias por todo!

Some steaks, cooked in tallow in the BSR, and twice baked potatoes in the Lodge with a little bit of bacon grease at 400°. I dumped some veggies into the tallow and salt/pepper after the steaks were finished and they got nice and charred. Easy and damn good!

I missed these all, or couldn't find them, last year so was excited to dig them out of the display today!

I cheated. Ground turkey and Doña Maria mole, but it worked okay. Nothing like homemade, but easy enough for a Sunday afternoon. Torpedo with onion, cotija and El Yucateco and washed down with an ice cold Modelo. ¡Tengan una semana bien buena!

Hamburger steaks and gravy in the No. 12 BSR for supper last night. It was nearly cleaned up by the time I got back to take a picture!

Hamburger steaks:

- 6 hamburger patties (or more)

- 1/2-3/4 onion, diced

- 1 celery stalk, diced

- 1 bell pepper, diced (any color; I use green)

- 8oz mushrooms, sliced (I use baby bella)

- Flour (start with 1/4c)

- Water or stock/broth

- Seasoning to taste (I used Meat Church Gospel, Crystal hot sauce and Worcestershire, all to taste)

  1. Season and brown the hamburger patties; set aside (do not need to fully cook yet). I added a little tallow to the pan for the first batch, but they produce enough grease on their own after that.

  2. Saute the vegetables and mushrooms in the leftover grease. Optional: add minced garlic (I didn't have any).

  3. Add the flour and mix into the vegetables. You can brown it off some, but that isn't really necessary.

  4. Add your water or stock. I used about 3c, but you can adjust according to how much flour you used.

  5. Season the gravy, being careful not to overseason as it will thicken and reduce.

  6. Add the patties back into the gravy and let simmer until cooked and tender, about 10 minutes.

I served with cheddar broccoli rice and steamed veggies, but you can serve with mashed potatoes or something like egg noodles, too.

*Note: if using water you can always add some chicken bouillon if you'd like. If you do, please watch the salt in your seasoning blend, or use a low/no sodium seasoning.

Total cost: $7 for the patties, about $2 for the vegetables ($1.97 for celery, .99 for the bell pepper, .50 for the onion, BUT I have lots of celery left over), $3 for mushrooms, $2 for the rice, $1.50/ea for the veggies. Total cost, assuming you have some sort of seasoning & either water or make your own stock, is $14 for 6 servings, assuming one patty per serving and using rice and veggies to fill the gaps for a good meal.

I'm sorry that I wasn't able to make it there sooner, but here is the ad. Note: not all products available in all stores.

Do take notice that certain things, like the burger patties on the back, are 99c/ea, which is still 3.96/lb, so a good buy. Our store also had store brand pasta for 88c, so keep an eye out for other sales while you're there.

I hope you can make it today!
