I would like to know so that I can update a certain setting.

This might be a stupid question but I am still curious tho.

I started dragon ball and watched the first few episodes but I noticed that it was more like a comedy cartoon and I've been wanting to watch the dragon ball series cuz I heard the fights are amazing but I also want to experience the whole story so is dragon ball important to watch before dragon ball z or can I skip it?
