I’ve just signed a lease in Logan Square for July 1st and I’m excited to be joining all of you. Can I get some recommendations? See body.

Hi all, I’m moving to Logan soon and I’m so excited. I’m moving because I really want to be part of a bustling and active community. I was hoping to get recommendations from you folks on…

- leftist/progressive groups in the area that I can join
- places/groups for queer (especially sapphic) people to meet
- your favorite cafes to work and read from!
- your fav affordable restaurants/bakeries
- anything else that you think any newbie should know about/visit/try in the area

Fwiw I’m 28 in case that’s relevant :+)

Thanks everyone!

How much risk is there for flooding in a ground floor apartment that’s at street level?

Thinking of renting a spot that’s at street level, maybe a couple steps down. Landlord says no history of flooding and I didn’t see any major floor damage except one spot in the middle of the kitchen which could be explainable by virtually anything. I hear horror stories about basements but this is a ground floor unit. Advice? Insight?

Moving to Logan soon. Is $900 a good deal for a room in a garden unit right next to the LS blue line station? Details in body

I’m not super familiar with the rents in LS. here’s info on the space:

\- $900 for a room in a 2bd1ba garden unit (so entire unit is $1800)
\- medium sized living room with large windows despite being a garden unit
\-spacious kitchen which fits a dining table
\- spacious bathroom
\- bedroom itself is very small, around 10x7.5 ft
\- free laundry
\- free locked storage space in building
\- no joke, a minute walk from the LS blue line station
\- private landlord

I’m mostly concerned about how small the room is and was hoping to hear what people have to say. I’ve been hearing mixed things and would love some insight.

Editing to add:
- no flooding issues in the 3-4 years the current tenant has lived there
- fly issue that has been addressed, no other pest issues

hi all, I’m feeling icky about something and could use some insight. I have a roommate who just joined me as a subletter on my lease that ends at the end of June. She joined my apartment in April. when she was joining, the plan was for us to resign the lease together for next year.

however, a handful of personal life events has led me to decide to not renew the lease as I’m moving to a different neighborhood. I gave her a 2 month warning and I am doing everything I can to find someone to take my place on the lease. among the reasons for wanting to move out is that she brought cockroaches from her infested apartment into our unit, and while the issue seems to have been resolved, I was the one who did all of the work to fix the issue (found and booked the exterminator, cleaned the entire house, monitored traps, etc. exterminator told us to eliminate clutter and while I have done so in every room in the house, her room looks like a bomb went off in it).

she told me that she’s really angry, that I put a pile of shit in her lap, and that if I’d been thinking about moving out I could have told her. I clarified that I hadn’t been thinking about moving out but my timeline moved up suddenly and that I’m committed to making sure she doesn’t get fucked over. that said, I’m still wracked with guilt over it. so aita?

moving into a new place soon, the person who lives there has been there for 3 years and never seen any activity. there’s a good amount of what looks like dark dirt behind/under his fridge, which he has never pulled out or cleaned under during his time. there were no egg casings or other obvious indicators of roaches under the fridge. is there any real way to tell if it is in fact just dirt or if it’s roach poop? fwiw it’s quite dry to the touch.

hi all, looking for a place in Logan and wondering what rental companies and independent landlords people have had good experiences with. tagging as agent needed in case any agents have experience with independent landlords.

hi all, hoping to move to Logan square this summer and would strongly prefer to move into an open room in an already-occupied apartment. here‘s some info:

Looking for…

  • a year lease that starts July 1, with a little flexibility before or after (such as June 15th or august 1st)
  • before utilities, $1100 max rent
  • ideally I’d be within a 30 minute walk of the Logan square blue line stop, I could also do 30 minutes walk of the california blue line stop
  • a bedroom with enough space for a queen, desk, and dresser would be great.
  • happy to have any amount of roommates! would prefer 1-3 other people living in the unit but am flexible. any # of bathrooms is okay but 1 for every 2 occupants is ideal.
  • I have an indoor-only cat named solstice, she is extremely sweet.
  • laundry on site is pretty important but I could make it work if there’s a good laundromat within walking distance. otherwise not picky about amenities. would strongly prefer to not be in a garden unit though!

about me…

  • I’m a 28 year old woman getting her PhD at UChicago. I do a mix of WFH, working on campus, and working from coffee shops.
  • I’m really good about chores/shared housing responsibilities, and I really value strong and open communication with roommates about expectations and house management. I’m pretty clean but don’t mind a little messiness from my roommates so long as the messes don’t attract pests or cause the apartment to smell bad.
  • For fun I like to play board games and video games, watch horror movies, explore chicago, bake, cross stitch, and read.
  • I’m a pretty quiet roommate but am happy to occasionally host friends / for my roommates to host as well!
  • im queer and would only want to live with people who are lgbt-friendly

looking forward to hearing from people!
