Russian prefers hide??

My female Russian is spending a lot of her time
in her cool dry hide, out of the sun lamp. Is this normal?

She has a multi-level enclosure with two hides, a soaking pool, and moist area for digging, and a uva/uvb mercury vapor lamp.

But… she seems to prefer her upstairs hide which is dry and cool to her burrowing area under the uva/uvb bulb.

Is this cause for concern? She’s spending a lot of time up there… 🤷🏻‍♀️

After a lot of doubt and consideration, I’ve decided my marriage is not meant for my whole lifetime .

We are lovely funny friends. But we’re not a couple. He’s gone most of the time, not financially stable, no sex, I no longer see a future together. And we’re young. I want more for myself, even if it’s just me living on my own terms. No kids. Just pets. But I’m sure it will still be hard.

Send me encouragement! One of those things that is not easy but still right.

Hi all! Recently learned my tort’s diet is not quite right!

I’ve been feeding her a blend of dandelion greens, collards, cucumber and roughage pellets (softened) sprinkled with calcium. But I’m seeing a lot of info that collards and dandelion greens are too high in certain things.

Can someone give me a more specific/expert guide to the *best* diet a human can provide for their Russian tort in captivity??

Thank you!!

Hi folks - recently got bloodwork done for my gal, and the vet said there’s indication that she has active follicles (precursors to eggs) and may need to be spayed if the eggs don’t fully descend.

Has anyone experienced this? Is it indicative of a husbandry issue?? What can I do to avoid needing to spay my girl… seems like an extensive surgery that I’d rather not put her through. (Screenshot of vet email attached…)

She has a proper enclosure! Brought her to the natural light for pics.

She’s active and alert… and I don’t see any pyramiding.

I know she needs a beak trim and a soak (just ate and for some reason loves to climb her food and gets calcium all over herself…)

But… just at a glance, does she look okay?

In the last year, we moved to a colder climate with no outdoor access. Doing the best we can in our (temporary) urban setting…

Just a bit worried she’s not getting everything she needs. Any thoughts when you see her pics?
