So my nan has had a tortoise called Tommy for years! He’s ace (I’ve attached a photo of the little fella)

Does anyone know of any good fences that can’t be climbed up?
We’ve tried a few different ones and he always finds a way to climb up them and end up on his back… with my nans health issues and her being elderly she can’t keep running out to save him and it’s causing her a lot of stress, we tried having him at our house but our dog didn’t get on with him (she’s also a ex racing greyhound so we just don’t want to risk anything with him being a moving small target)

I’m no tortoise expert and we don’t know anyone who can take him, equally we love him so much and don’t want to rehome him,
we just need a solution so my nan can be reassured he’s ok and not trying to get himself in anymore trouble!

If anyone knows of any ideas that will stop him climbing I’ll happily pass it on in my family chat!

Enclosure size

Hello, my six year old Greek tortoise just came back home after having escaped over eight months ago. As of now, she’s in a terrarium (I know that’s not good for her) but that’s only going to be the situation for about a week or two. We need to rebuild her outside enclosure.
I’m very sure her old enclosure is too small. My parents are who make most decisions so I can barely weigh in. I’m still wondering how big it should be. Whenever I look it up, I get wildly varying answers.
She’s a six year old Greek tortoise about the size of three quarters of my hand

Hello, I own a home in South Florida, USA- I have been thinking about getting a tortoise for years but want to make sure I educate myself on the best species to get for my area. I’m hoping to find one that needs rehoming but that’s beside the point. I have a large yard that id like to dedicate a 10x12 space to. Which species would be best for this South Florida weather? (would also have a setup inside for inclement weather/hurricanes 😵‍💫) any help or resources you can provide would be awesome, thank you!

Hi folks - recently got bloodwork done for my gal, and the vet said there’s indication that she has active follicles (precursors to eggs) and may need to be spayed if the eggs don’t fully descend.

Has anyone experienced this? Is it indicative of a husbandry issue?? What can I do to avoid needing to spay my girl… seems like an extensive surgery that I’d rather not put her through. (Screenshot of vet email attached…)

Hi All,

Please allow me to introduce you to Shelly Ann. We’ve had her a week today.

She’s about 6 months old. Eastern Herman’s.
Curious about some of her behaviour and if we are taking care of her correctly.

First she has started to sleep by burrowing a bit next to her basking rock. As you can see in one of the pictures. I’m wondering if this is because she’s cold? She used to sleep under the hide in the middle. She goes to Sleep about 17:30. UVB off at 18:00. IR off at 19:00 then back on at 07:00. Cool side sits between 23-27 hot side 32-36. Humidity between 40-70%.

Shallow water dish always topped up. Food dish with fresh food daily including calcium powder. Cuttle fish bone which she mostly ignores.
She also rarely uses the log hide on the cool side wondering if it is because that side is too cold for her?

Given her 2 soaks this week in warm water with a little brush. Looked like she enjoyed the drink.

Also in the other picture built a little holiday home with some extra bits, but question is how long can she stay in that other tub without a heat lamp? But this can be potentially taken outside on hot days.

Any feedback and advice would be much appreciated.
