So I've already got an X4 and I'm loving it, its with me everyday at work, it never leaves my pocket, its comfortable and with crosspoint it works perfectly.
But I'm seeing the X3, its smaller size and NFC and shit, and I'm wondering: to any people who've owned both 4 and 3, is there any actual upgrade that the X3 provides that would make it worth purchasing if I already own the 4?

How do you prepare your EPUBs? My X4 is arriving tomorrow, and I’ve already come across a few different methods. One is using the web converter (https://xteink.lakafior.com/), and the other is via the EPUB plugin in a Calibre workflow (https://github.com/kxrz/calibre_workflow).
What are your experiences with these, and what would you recommend? Or do some of you not use either of these methods at all?
I’m also planning to use the stock firmware for a few days first, and then switch to Crosspoint to hopefully get that “wow effect” all over again. What do you think about that idea?

Hey folks just a heads up,
I've been building a new firmware runtime for the Xteink X4 under TeamIDE. Instead of the usual monolithic C++ firmware where every feature has to be compiled in, CrossLua Reader is a thin ~500KB C runtime that just loads `.lua` files from the SD card. Want to add a feature? Drop a `.lua` file in `/plugins/`. No toolchain, no flashing, no rebuild.
Working today:
• Full Lua 5.4 with `display`, `input`, `storage`, `font`, `wifi` APIs
• Plugin manager that discovers and switches plugins on the fly
• SD-loadable `.cfont` fonts (Hebrew/RTL bidi already in core)
• Settings, persistence, button remapping
• Multi-language UI via JSON language packs
Adding a plugin:
write a `.lua` file with `onEnter()`, `loop()`, `onExit()`, drop it in `/plugins/`. PRs are pure Lua, no C++ required. If it's good, it lands in a community plugins directory in the next release.
Adding a language:
copy `sdcard/languages/en/lang.json`, translate the strings, set your language code and direction (LTR/RTL). RTL languages can ship their own `.cfont` font inside `languages/{code}/fonts/`. Partial translations are fine — missing keys fall back to English. No code review, just a sanity check.
Heads up — early preview.
The runtime, plugin system, and core UI plugins work on real hardware, but **the web installer isn't built yet** — that's planned for the full release. For now you'll need to flash via PlatformIO. I'm sharing now so people can poke at the code, suggest plugins, or contribute translations while it's still being shaped.

I pre ordered an X3, already have an X4 and decided, after seeing the S4, to cancel. I've emailed them and they said
No problem, we can help with that. We have already registered your request and will process the cancellation and refund. Our response time may be a little slower than usual due to the high volume of inquiries, and we hope this does not cause any inconvenience. Please keep an eye on your email for the update.
That was a week ago, and the order is still live and the refund hasn't been processed. I emailed them again yesterday, and got a similar response that it won't be shipped etc, but I'm getting a bit concerned it's just going to end up being sent regardless.
Anyone else cancelled a pre order, and how did it go?
XTEINK just posted on the their official China accounts that the S4 preorder that was going to start on April 27th (tonight local China time) is cancelled. They will now be sold at a later date when stock is available. No change to discounts or pricing.
I’m using the Xteink X3 with Crosspoint firmware and I like the sleep screen feature. I’ve been downloading wallpapers from here https://x4epapers.lowio.xyz, but they don’t seem to scale correctly on the X3. The image looks slightly compressed, which makes me think the resolutions or aspect ratios are different.
Does anyone know the exact screen resolution of the X3?
Also, is there a source of wallpapers specifically formatted for the X3, or a recommended way to resize X4 wallpapers so they display properly?

Hi folks, does anyone know about the availability of frosted/matte glass for x4? I mean tempered glass, not foil.
I’m currently using clear tempered glass, which glares under sunny daylight conditions. So I would like to replace it with matte glass, if there is any. Thanks.

I've never been this excited about receiving a package before.
Every time I have free time, I'm excited to read something on my X4.
But you should all know this—I haven't read a book for the past 2-3 years because my attention span kept drifting toward TikTok/Reels.
But every time I use it, I feel like it might get damaged. I'm afraid of breaking it-and honestly, it feels justified, because one out of every three posts I see is about a damaged X4.
I bought it on Taobao for about $35, but I love it so much that I constantly worry about it getting broken.
Has anyone else felt the same way?

Sono nuovo nel mondo Xteink, e ho appena comprato un X3, che dovrebbe arrivare entro una settimana perché purtroppo in Italia non è venduto su Amazon... Ho letto che esistono firmware alternativi. Avrei delle domande a cui non riesco a trovare risposta: in primo luogo come si fa ad aggiornare il software originario con cui il dispositivo viene messo in commercio? Intendo il software stock, come lo aggiorno? E soprattutto quali sono i firmware custom, quali sono gli svantaggi e i vantaggi, e come si installano???

I'm a bit confused.
I recently ordered two X4s (just a few days apart) and received two different versions.
One has a black logo and the other has a gray logo.
What bothers me most is that the first one came with a case, but the second one didn't.
What's going on?

X3 Arrived from April 4 Easter sale
My X3 arrived unscathed. I haven't had any time to use it yet but it really does feel great in the hand.
I did upload crosspoint and will probably use the small font for a while, which is shown, and see if I have to jump it up to medium. It really doesn't seem as small as it looks while reading.
Ignore the margins on the sleep screen photo as it's a direct copy from my x4 folder which is cropped to that size screen so by default there is some white margin showing on the x3 until I resize them.
The magnetic case that it comes with really makes it feel safe to slip in a pocket but is definitely a cheap feeling product. It gets the job done though and actually feels good in the hand with the top flap folded backwards while using and handling. All of the buttons are accessible that way as well.
I'll probably make some kind folding leather slip for it instead though as that's more of my thing.
I don't read a lot, but I'm trying to get into it more rather than doom scrolling on my phone in downtime. I figured a chapter or two here or there really adds up.
These devices are really impressive to throw in a front pocket or a small bag and I really believe that Xteink is filling a gap that is missing for people. I absolutely love the basic e-reader set up and don't think that it needs to be complicated with fancy sync apps and mini games, or calendars with notepads. We all already have phones that are more than capable of habit tracking.
If the company reads any of these posts then please know that I appreciate the simplicity of what these little devices are and the mobility that they provide. Please keep them simple in the future or at least always offer a simple and affordable version of these products. Try to source reliable parts, I know there have been screen problems and sunlight fade. People will pay a little more for a product that will last years.

So… hope the title didn’t throw you off, but honestly, I feel like I’m kinda losing my mind right now :D
I’ve been mulling this over for days and still can’t decide on a purchase. I’m probably way overthinking this, but hear me out.
Back in 2006, when I was a kid, I used to stare at those tiny e-readers in shop windows. I never got one back then, and now, years later, I’ve come across them again and my eyes are literally shining…:D But… I’m completely stuck on which model to pick.
Here’s the situation. I already own a full-size, trusty old reader — a PocketBook 616 (Basic Lux 2). What I want now is something small that I can take with me absolutely everywhere, because my hands are tiny (smaller than average). I can’t buy both models at once — not an option, especially since they’re more expensive in my country and my purchasing power is, well, not great (I mean, the X3 would be a quarter of my salary.). And, yes, I want it, I need it. I’m not sure prices will go down with a new model, at least in my country.
Now for the actual dilemma:
The 3rd-gen model costs more than the 4th-gen. I’m not really bothered about the charging port, but I am worried about the X3’s build quality. It seems like the X4 has fewer issues? Since I can only buy from a third-party shop, any hardware problems would be a serious headache.
Ergonomics-wise, I have a feeling the X3 would sit better in my hand. The X4 basically fills up my whole palm, making it impossible to comfortably press the buttons with one hand. But then I start thinking long-term: which device will actually get better support? I feel like the 4th-gen might become the classic, and I’m not so sure about the 3rd-gen’s future updates and longevity.
So yeah. This choice has completely paralyzed me, which caught me totally off guard — it’s the first thing in ages that has stumped me this badly. If there are any actual users here, please drop your thoughts. I’d really appreciate it.
