How to deal with super collectors?

sorry this may be more of a rant than an actual post

I've been trying to get a Marantz for a while (feel free to judge me). I finally found a Marantz 2270 at what I thought was a good price. When I messaged the guy, he said he had a buyer pending, but was gonna try to talk him out of it since the buyer gloated that he was collecting every Marantz he could get his hands on. Anyways the buyer ended up giving him more money than listed and got the Marantz

how am I supposed to compete with a retired rich dude that is obsessively scrolling through FB marketplace and Craigslist gobbling up every receiver available??

Found this in bad shape at a flea market. I stripped and seasoned it and after a couple of washes the seasoning came off. Any advice?

Went to the flea market and found this for cheap very rusty. I stripped it down with Easy-Off and seasoned it with flax oil on a 500°F oven for about an hour. I did this 5 times. After a couple of washes, the seasoning came off and started rusting again. I can take the rust off and re-season it, but what can I do to prevent the seasoning from coming off again?
